When it comes to planting from seeds... sadly more brands sell seeds that produce "infertile" plants. So when you save seeds from the previous year they don't grow, or they grow really poorly. And the best way to get seeds is from neighbours. If you know anyone who has their garden nearby ask them if they have any leftovers. They usually would grow best, because they are tried and tested in your exact climate. My grandma has a garden that grows plenty of veggies for the whole family, most of the seeds she has is from seeds she bought years ago, or got from neighbours. Anytime we try to get something new (like parsnips a couple years ago) it turns out that we have to buy new seeds each year. I guess the seed companies want to make profit. Grow your own garlic: it is resilient and home grown tastes sooo much better. It also stores pretty well or you could mince and freeze it.
