Tuscany Trail 2023 - The Mudfest !

- This year the Trail welcomed 4700 entrants from all over the world. The course was spectacular. Brilliantly set out, although many concluded that a 'category' climb on the last day was tad sadistic. For the rest it was testing, technical and MUDDY as hell ! A minor gripe regarding over-congestion at the first overnight stop's limited restaurants and campsites, and a bigger one regarding the lack of any sense of 'event' at the end. The Comune or whoever runs Parco dei Sugheri could have done a lot better. Biggest screw up was my own fault, with badly miscalculated 'autonomous' power supply. That aside, neither the rain, not the mud nor the constantly wet shorts could dent the enthusiasm for this great event. Thanks to Andrea & the entire Tuscany Trail Team. See you next year !

Hey Maarten ! Thanks for your message. The mud added extra 'interest' as did camping and waking up with everything soaked though (humidity) each morning. Nothing that a good plate of 'picci al ragù' and a glass or two of chianti can't fix ! We'll have to find a way to ride together some day !

Hi Silvia. Thank you for your kind comments, and I also remember our quick chat in Volterra - what a spectacular view ! I'm afraid the video is very limited because I didn't think through the battery charging situation when camping. I was using my iphone to record film, so had to stop and conserve battery power. Will sort that out for next year ! Where are you writing from Silvia ?

Hey Angus, couldn't agree more with you about the end off the event, me too felt a bit lost after arriving, no party no nothing.....sad....also a T-shirt for everybody would have been nice instead off a bag with pasta and wine. But the adventure itself is priceless and in a way I'm proud that this years edition was indeed a difficult one...grtz from Flanders 🍻👊🏻.
Hi Roger ! Good to meet you, and thanks for your comment. I do believe that the organisers put in a lot of work during the year to secure the route, send out messages (mostly product promo it has to be said) and do all the behind the scenes stuff we don't see. Even more of a shame that the final impression we get is a bit of an anticlimax. Even a DJ would cost next to nothing and give a sense of occasion. Well done for completing the ride and best regards to Flanders ! 👋

Hi Eric, thanks for your question. I pitched a small one-man tent at a campsite in Volterra (1st night) with other riders on a 5-a-side football pitch (2nd night) and in a field with 2 other riders I just met along the route on the third night. I made sure I kept enough water for a 'bottle wash' before hitting the sack. I'll do a video about the kit I took very soon. (what worked and what didn't). Thanks & Best , Angus.
