    I always wonder why this part was never in the book? It reflected on the 2013 remake and followed the same words, but this wasn't in the book

    They meant well but I think the prom was too big of an event for Carrie. If they wanted to help Carrie's social life perhaps they should've started with something smaller like maybe take her to the movies or a small restaurant something like that.

    Sweet and hilarious scene. We feel Sue’s genuine effort to make it up to Carrie, and yet Ms. NotDesjardin had every right to be protective. And Tommy’s reluctance was both eyerolling but believable (and in the end, he was kinda falling for Carrie too.) See what CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT does? Modern screenwriters, please take note.

      I think it was her way to verificate or check that they don't mean bad. It was a way to say: "Do you think you'll look ridiculous if you go with Carrie?" so that she will know that they don't want to harm Carrie

    Tommy is a good dude when you think about it. He did this for his girlfriend Sue, missing a chance to go with her, and still made Carrie feel like a queen the entire time at prom. He could have said no but in the end he was never selfish and was trying to help out both girls

      belle811🖤🌖 Yes, and I could also see there being a behavioral component to it from the school’s perspective: to deter groups of unpaired teens showing up together and getting rowdy. Teens being paired up with dates might lessen the likelihood of bad behavior, since socially they will want to impress their dates and adhere to the ritual. A little bit of social control. I mean, kids can and sometimes do get into trouble even when paired at proms and dances, but I can see the enforced pairing cutting down on that.

    • @EastSide-qc5oy
      @EastSide-qc5oy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How is he a bargaining chip between the two? Miss Collins just wants to get to the bottom of what they are planning, as she suspects possible nefarious intentions, or at best just a poorly thought out act of good will that won’t go well for Carrie. That’s why she questions Tommy about how much he has really thought about this plan to take Carrie to the prom.

      @@ravernnoir1821 Sue showed up alone to see how him and Carrie were doing and the moment Ms. Collins spotted her she immediately threw her out. So yeah I think back then probably depending where you were located you weren't allowed to go to prom unless you brought a date. But of course there's that other theory that Ms. Collins might have been worried if Sue was just there to only sabotage Carries special night.

    • @EastSide-qc5oy
      @EastSide-qc5oy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      belle811🖤🌖 I think Miss Collins tossed Sue out of the gymnasium in that beautifully choreographed slow-motion segment because she was indeed concerned that Sue was up to no good. Even though she softened to Tommy earlier in the prom scene where she had her sweet and doting sit down chat with Carrie, she probably never fully let go of her suspicion that something nefarious might be going on. The moment she spotted Sue it was like her suspicions were confirmed. Of course, if she had actually given Sue a chance to explain herself during that segment, as Sue was trying to call attention to Chris and Billy under the stage, tragedy might have been averted.
