Marinetti and the enthusiasm for technology among the Futurists is only one part of the story. You also had Luddites, the Romantic movement, the Transcendentalists, and the Amish and other Anabaptist groups. That's why I'm so interested in Bataille and Girard. Our ancestors did not create rites and mythologies for no reason and paganism is what probably holding back the apocalypse of modernity. Imagine you had a Marxist society where poverty was eliminated. We have computer programmers and accountants _today_ that make good money, but they feel bored with life. And and this imaginary Marxist society is relatively benign compared to the reality: Neuralink, designer babies, self-learning AGI, and the technological singularity.
