    Hey Mark, great video. I have started watching your channel and have subsequently subscribed to your channel. I think you have a Lotta great information for people that are just getting started in those that I’ve been tasting reds for quite some time. I do enjoy Cabs and so on. But as far as the Merlot’s, I have not had one for a while, but I think it’s time to get back to them. That was one of the very first red wines that I started with many years ago. Thanks for the information in this one. I enjoy the way you break it down in and simple and easy ways for everybody to understand. Cheers!

    Merlot is undisputedly on my top ten favourites list. I envisage myself enjoying a glass--or rather, make it a bottle--while dining al fresco
    and eating a delicious meaty tomato pasta. That would be heaven. On a side note, I admire where you do your filming, Marc, especially
    in the summer months. Somehow, with all the greenery in the background, I imagine a lush and sweeping vineyard being only steps away
    from where you are seated. I stumbled upon your blog (if I'm using the right term) during the wee hours of this morning. I watched one
    and being captivated, insatiably continued to watch more. I'm not sure if you have covered Beaujolais in any of your red wine sessions,
    but if you haven't please consider this wine as another topic for your viewers. Thanks again, Marc.

    Awesome video Marc!! Love how genuine and clear you are in your communication. I always thought it was so funny when watching Sideways that he hates Merlot but the wine bottle he covets and has been waiting to drink is '61 Cheval Blanc that is Merlot and Cab Franc. Too funny. I was lucky enough to drink lots of Petrus during my years at Christie's wine auctions and it is pretty delicious... I hope you might do more videos soon, as these are great!

      Thank you for watching! I'm sure, in time, as younger generations come around to drinking wine, that Merlot will again finds its place among the top wines. When you have wines like Petrus and Cheval Blanc, it's hard to argue that Merlot isn't great. Cheers!

      They're on the cheaper side ...and I mean really cheap..but Tisdale California and Beringer Main & Vine are pretty good. I especially like the Tisdale. It has a nice smooth, velvety texture and a really good lingering after taste. It's a semi dry but just the right balance. The Beringer is more dry and more of an earthy kinda thing. I'll have to try the Ste Michelle.

    Hi,
    I have tried a red wine once but it was really bitter. Someone told me to try Moscoto and I love it but certain Moscoto(d 'asti). Anyways i realize the only way i can do wine is it has to be a sweet desert. Can you recommend a sweet red desert wine?

    • @wine-living
      @wine-living  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sarah, sure. There are quite a few sweet reds out there, although I'm not sure where you live and what's available to you. Italy makes one called Recioto di Valpolicalla, made from grapes that are dried on straw mats to concentrate the sugars. There's a sweet bubbly wine from Italy called Brachetto, which is a fun wine to drink with chocolate dishes. Ruby Port from Portugal is sweet, and has extra alcohol added (20%) so it's got quite a kick. Lastly, if you like California wine, I think brands like Barefoot and Apothic both make a sweet red now. I think the Apothic is called Velvet. Hope this helps, and thanks for contacting me!

    • @wine-living
      @wine-living  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's fairly common! They call this "opening up," and when you first pop open a bottle it may be "closed," due to being stuffed inside that bottle for years with no breathing space. Exposing it to some oxygen will allow it to breathe and start developing its aromas and flavors again. Some experts even recommend serving red wine up to a day after opening.

      Seriously? Remember when Miles and Jack were about to meet with Stephanie and Maya for dinner? Jack takes Miles aside before entering the restaurant. Warns him about not getting "too drunk". Then Miles screams, "If they want to drink Merlot,...I am NOT going to drink Merlot...". That was enough discourage me from Merlot for awhile. Later, whenever I pick up a bottle of Coppola Merlot from Costco...I always hear Miles screaming in my head.

    • @wine-living

      Stella Rosa wines are mostly low-priced sweet wines made in Italy. As far as I know, they're made with fruits and some with the Moscato grape, but no Merlot.

    The point being made in Sideways was TOTALLY missed by everyone. The bottle the character has to celebrate his wedding anniversary with his wife was her favorite, Merlot. So when they broke up- it was too painful for him to drink.

    Oh, so that Sideways movie did to Merlot the exact opposite of what Lost in Translation did to Japanese Whisky. After that movie, demand jumped for Japanese whisky by several hundred percent. The demand got so high that some brands literally began to run out of aged product, and rather than lowering the quality, they just stopped selling it.

    • @mattbenz99
      @mattbenz99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sharadsharma4833
      Ya, the problem with the whisk(e)y business is that product takes years to produce so you need to estimate what your demand 10+ years in the future will be. Japanese whisky demand grew so quickly that no one was actually able to keep up with it. They are in the process of making more, so it will be back on shelves in the future. It is just it will take some time. Every year they have a certain amount of product maturing. It just isn't enough to meet the entire year's demand.

    • @wine-living
      @wine-living  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there an expiration of any red wine

    • @wine-living
      @wine-living  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, but certain types last longer than others. White wines expire the quickest (after about two years), roses last for about three, and reds can last ten years or more. I'm referring to the average store-bought wines with screw tops and plastic forks. Classic luxury wines can agree for decades, whites (like Riesling and Chablis) included.

She is 26 and has never been drunk before due to coming from a line of people that abused alcohol. She has never had wine let alone anything else so i could really use some help.
