So I got a lot of kind messages asking me why I had put 2 sad emojis in my Insta story yesterday. This is why.
This song, 'Tears In My Ferrari,' is a deeper one for me. It's a fictional (yet common) situation of a person torn between choosing love or their career in their lifetime, and has been a reoccurring struggle for me in my personal life. In this story, Sickick's career takes off, and as you can see he gets the fancy car, the fancy house, a legion of incredible fans, and all the money he could dream of... but as proud and thankful as he is, somehow, it still feels empty. Like something's missing. He can't stop thinking about the girl he left back home, who he thought he'd end up with. However, it was the price he had to pay in order to follow his passion. With all the visual imagery, we see encounters with the money hungry sharks and getting exposed to the dark side of the industry; the secrets and the lies. The water scenes signify that terrible feeling of sinking deeper and deeper into that lifestyle, feeling trapped under all that pressure, while he questions his reasons for choosing this path in the first place. All he can think of is getting back to that pure warm place he once knew, where everything seemed to make sense - between the arms of that woman he left back home - and through dodging all the colossal obstacles thrown at him, he finally makes it back. In this fantasy ending, he realizes that the happiness he was after was in front of him the entire time.
So you see, the reason this song got me sad the other day was because one day, I’ll have to make this decision in real life. Potentially leave my loved ones behind in order to become the person I always thought I’d be. It’s absolutely terrifying. However, the only comforting feeling I hold onto when I get in that zone is thinking about all of you, and how incredibly supportive you have all been with me this far, I know you will all have my back until the end. Send this song to someone in lockdown who could use that comforting feeling right now.
