Ah, a referendum to leave the *European Convention on Human Rights* , of course! The ECHR that was drafted in the aftermath of the Second World War and the Holocaust in an attempt to protect the people from the State, make sure the atrocities committed would never be repeated, and safeguard fundamental rights.
The ECHR that had British lawyers being integral to the drafting of the text, and Winston Churchill a key early advocate. The ECHR that guarantees people’s fundamental human rights in law for the first time in history. That protects people in Europe from things like torture, killing, and slavery and assures our freedom of speech, assembly, religion, privacy and much more. *That* ECHR.

Yes, there was some laughter but Mr. Farage clearly invited and welcomed this. It was his maiden speech in parliament and he wanted it remembered, for whatever reason. A more revealing reaction, however, was the absence of heckling for the more controversial aspects of his speech, illegal migration and the ECHR, for example. I took this as a sullen and never to be admitted acceptance by other members that his analysis of the crisis we face today is the truth.

Not so. More people voted for the Tories and Reform than for Labour. Labour got in because the vote on the right was split. Yes, Labour has a huge majority but they know it's based on sand, and they'll have to tread carefully if they want to keep a mostly centre and right-wing population onside. It's time that Remainers accepted the result of nearly a decade ago and moved on. I was a Remainer but I got over losing - that's democracy.
