  • Estrid is progressing really well. I'm enjoying the laid back approach to her education, in the past I've been more intensive when backing my horses, going from nothing to riding out in probably 6-8 weeks, this time due to other commitments and general life stuff it's meant that Estrid is taking the 'little bit, every now and again' method. For some reason, this feels like far less pressure and I'm enjoying getting to know her without thinking about our next goal.
She's currently in the phase of she's got her confidence but also everything is quite scary, so she'll go and check everything out, do a 360 spin, snort at it and unlike her siblings, actually just looks, assesses and calms down.....which is a welcome change from the full blown meltdowns of the previous two horses I backed.
Although I have no set in stone goals, timeframes or schedules with her (I mean when do horses ever stick to the plan anyway), I would like to go on our first Pleasure ride this year. Something local, quiet and easy just to dip our toe in the water.
I also must apologise now for the number of times I say 'Good girl' in this video.......I have no idea how many it is, but it is A LOT!
    Thanks for watching,
    Beth

Great job!! She is lovely and you do such a nice job. I know this is old so I am excited to see her progress without waiting 😁

She is adorable, she spooks and then she has the "whatever...let's keep going..." attitude. She looks so much like my mare, she is an anglo-arab with the most angelic personality. I started her less than 1 year ago, from nothing to 40km ride! I just keep it slow and steady, as you are doing, bringing up trustfulness and safety. So nice to see you taking your time to educate your horse! I believe she will bring a lot of joy and success in your endurance carrier !

Going well Beth. Estrid is so pretty, I love the Smokey markings around her eyes and on her muzzle (-: Marion

Oh well done both of you!! And thanks for sharing this video. I am bringing along a green 4 year old Arab - she was started when I got her, thank goodness, but I've had some rough breaks with my young mustangs so I am still learning to trust her. Watching how you handle things helps me SO MUCH. (I chat to her the whole time too lol) Thank you!!

Good luck with your mare! It's definitely harder to trust even you've had a few injuries or accidents but I think taking our time is probably better in the long run x

I was looking forward to an Estrid update and she is doing so well. You both have made strides in the backing process. Also, you mentioned all of the training you do with your horse, I do with my horse Jake. My goal for tomorrow is to walk him around the pasture instead of just walk, stop, convince him to move, keep convincing him and finally walking on. I also take him on sone cross country banks (baby ones) to practice going up and down for balance and muscle build up, found some logs and handwalk him oher these and now it is time to walk around the arenas and trail.

That's so cool! I think I'll take Estrid to a cross country course to see some bits and try out the water soon x

A forward horse is better than a backwards one 💕 she’s really growing up now !

That went so well!! She's really coming along! I never underestimate the value of a brave horse that spooks "well", getting startled but not taking off. What were those colored things in the corner of the ring? I've never seen them, and I'm always up for new riding toys! 😆

She is such a sweet girl😍. I love the way you talk constantly around her👍 I do the same, and like you, I believe it helps to keep me calm, and that way it calms my horse. Just curious Beth, how early in the morning is early for you? This week has seen the highest temperatures in Denmark since 1941 😅, and I just cant seem to start early enough before it gets too hot🫠, so our hacks have been shorter these days. Looking forward to the weather getting a bit cooler, though

5:30am, it was about 20degrees still but I don't mind training in a bit of heat, we don't get it very often 😝 x

@@bethendurance Thank you!! I'm particularly enjoying this series as I'm looking to start my first young horse soon, and hope to dabble in endurance eventually! Your videos are super helpful to know what to expect and totally soothe the anxiety i have of messing things up xD (I'll be working with a trainer obviously, but still haha)
Love your content! Keep it up!
