- These are fine looking Gouldians! I'm very pleased with the quality of them - most are full-bodied with big heads and great colour. The hens have plenty of blue behind their necks - a trait I really like - and strong chest colour. (... Yes, those are HENS, not fellas! The boys have DARK purple, or white, chests.)
They are feeding on various green seeding grasses in their outdoor aviary in Sydney, Australia.

beautiful collection ~ my guess is that you are somewhere in Australia but live in the northern part of Oz where it is warm as these guys love the warm weather! They struggle here in Melbourne!

I love these birds, i have 2 parents for th moment and 4 little ones and little little ones coming lol. I live in Belgium and in winter they stay inside with temp going down to 5°C so they are very strong

Can you please do a video of regular maintenance you carry out on the aviary especially the floor. My 18 year old son wants to set up his own aviary by converting an old chicken coup and he needs ideas of how to keep it looking fresh n clean

You have an amazing flock! I see that your lady gouldian and parrotfinches are able to freely commingle in one area without any problems. Question, have you ever seen any mixed species mating and hybrid offspring due to this?
+Michael Tiago Hi Michael. They coexist very well. In 8 years of keeping Gouldians and PFs together I have never had a hybrid produced. I think that takes special circumstances. However, I have occasionally had PFs adopt a Gouldian clutch and feed them, which produced some very big and healthy Gouldian babies!
What type of grass have you put on the floor of the cage? They are loving it!
Are the light blue chested and brown backed birds also finches?

What are they eating there?
Please help me. I lost a lot of Golden Finches. The reason is that the fetus completes its growth and dies inside the egg, although the eggs are moistened with water in order to increase the moisture and facilitate its reduction.
Hi Tarik. I have not heard of adding water. I suggest that you do not do this, as a dry nest is healthiest. Also, is there a possibility that the parents are too closely related? That could be the cause. If not those things, then improve nutrition of the parents.
Helllppppp!!!! When is the breeding season for gouldians is Aus? I used to breed them and I always thought it was December/January but I might be wrong? Please reply if you know that's!

are finches noisy ive got budgies and cockatiels and was thinking of buying finches or waxbills which would be the quitest or are they all the same with the chirping thanks

+Finchesca I know I think I'm already addicted we are thinking of expanding as we did a few months ago now we are thinking of making the whole shed a bird aviary it's crazy fun though I have zebras normal colours and pure white,manikin finches and are planing on getting cordon blues and Goulding when the pet shops get them back in stock ps I live in NSW as well.

Yes they get along fine. I have a Gouldian finch with a Society and a Spice.

Tip: The only greens you should give them and that they Love is romaine lettuce
I am giving "Green Coral Lettuce" which is a crinkly one and they do eat that. I'll try Romaine next.

+Tryinglittleleg Lots of things: Finch seed (mixed millets, canary seed, etc), green/milk/sprouted seed, boiled egg, vegies, green powder, vitamins, egg shell, cuttle fish bone, mineral powder.

I haven't had them for a few years, but I really love gouldians, cordon bleu's and shaft tails. I'm hoping to pick up a few males soon to give me some color and song again. I can't do breeding now. Maybe sometime in the future. Birds are so lovely, I just wish they weren't so much work for such tiny little things!
