In library that I work for, we have A Otto Skorzeni autobiography. If you like to read, I recommend it. It took me one afternoon. Better than an action movie. You just can't stop reading. 👍
I've read Skorzeny's book. He was very friendly with Russians, most of whom welcomed them like liberators. A very human and courageous man, as always, very far from contemporary propaganda. I've read many stories written by actual historians about the WW2 of German soldiers. Something that would shock many here, they were actually people. Their history is epic, they are the ones who faced the most hardships during this war. I should remind you that according to post war US research 80% of US soldiers never fired their weapon in combat.
Agreed. The fact 90% of Germans died in the Soviet Union speaks volumes of the depleted , yet still formittable German army. If we had invaded earlier we would’ve suffered many more losses.

I'm Irish and I did a project on the 'rescue' of Mussolini from Italian forces by a top team of Nazis lead by Otto Skorzeny. Mussolini wasn't simply being held in the ski-Resort place from where he was rescued, he was being moved around periodically to prevent such a rescue, and so they had to get the timing correctly. If I recall correctly the team used gliders or something similar to land on the mountain/ski-Resort place - they must've hopped out of a plane or something. I believe Otto was the one who met Mussolini first when they took the building and on seeing him said 'the fuhrer has sent me to free you'. I understand Mr. Skorzeny was living here in Ireland and our Government kicked him out, presumably an elderly man at that stage. Very shameful regardless 🇮🇪
