      @Djablon they fought a war of attrition against two countries with massive resources, moreover, on two fronts. It was the same as breaking your arm while fighting against the WBA heavyweight champion.

    • @joedatius
      @joedatius 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@fralion0714 of course hindsight is 20/20 but Germany could of won out at least in terms of their fight against the British if they didn't stop US support of shipping and allying with japan. it might of seemed foolish but Germany could of won against the UK even when the US was sending supplies. America didn't want to commit to war and in time might of seen the UK as a lost cause. in the end it doesn't take a genius to understand that it doesn't really matter how big your army is if you're fighting on so many fronts.

    I've read Skorzeny's book. He was very friendly with Russians, most of whom welcomed them like liberators. A very human and courageous man, as always, very far from contemporary propaganda. I've read many stories written by actual historians about the WW2 of German soldiers. Something that would shock many here, they were actually people. Their history is epic, they are the ones who faced the most hardships during this war. I should remind you that according to post war US research 80% of US soldiers never fired their weapon in combat.

    • @craigrieger6232
      @craigrieger6232 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agreed. The fact 90% of Germans died in the Soviet Union speaks volumes of the depleted , yet still formittable German army. If we had invaded earlier we would’ve suffered many more losses.

    • @craigrieger6232
      @craigrieger6232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jc.1191 the Germans we fought were not the Germans of 1941. Trust me I have nothing but the highest regard for any ally who left his homeland to liberate Europe. That being said, we waited til 44 for a reason. Giant conflicts in the Soviet Union over 4 years of the worst humanity has to offer had depleted the men in the pill boxes at Normandy to be defended by soldiers mostly injured in the east and seen unfit for combat. That’s facts. Imagine if we landed where they thought we would?! It would’ve of been way worse than it already was.

    I'm Irish and I did a project on the 'rescue' of Mussolini from Italian forces by a top team of Nazis lead by Otto Skorzeny. Mussolini wasn't simply being held in the ski-Resort place from where he was rescued, he was being moved around periodically to prevent such a rescue, and so they had to get the timing correctly. If I recall correctly the team used gliders or something similar to land on the mountain/ski-Resort place - they must've hopped out of a plane or something. I believe Otto was the one who met Mussolini first when they took the building and on seeing him said 'the fuhrer has sent me to free you'. I understand Mr. Skorzeny was living here in Ireland and our Government kicked him out, presumably an elderly man at that stage. Very shameful regardless 🇮🇪

      @@PeterKoperdan Free Ireland remained neutral, despite anger and grumbling from the British, as it was entirely against our interests. We did help them unofficially however. There are some who moan about that neutrality today but as a nationalist with the benefit of retrospect I think de Valera's (our then leader) position was right. The partitioned north-east of our country, being occupied by the British, was severely bombed by Germans as all the industry and stuff was there, killing many. In his victory speech, Winston Churchill blasted the position of the Irish Government and de Valera during the war, who responded in turn with a well-known calm, peaceful, very-well worded and stern response within days - you can listen to it.
