    Surprisingly, I enjoyed the ride along. Several years ago I took the road to the Loop memorial markers. Really nice view of trains on the Loop. Being a model railroader most of my life the Loop was always a place I heard of but never had seen until 2014. Your video brought back memories of that area. So, thanks for the ride!

    Another fantastic video Mark! Nice to see that you gave an on-screen acknowledgement to the Airbnb at Burton's Curve/Tunnel 10. I've stayed there many times, and it's a great spot for railfans (and affordable too)! I videotape the Tehachapi area often, and love seeing your less-frequented spots. I'd really like to do that drive, but sure that I'd have flat tires! Thanks, and keep up the good work!

    Love this little tour through the country. I can almost smell the scent of the oak woodlands. Beautiful but harsh countryside. 😊

    Without your Informative Channel, we would be in the Dark and/or Clueless about many things about the Railroad. Thank you Mark for your consistently Strong 💪 Efforts. 👍

    Outstanding Mark that is on my bucket list for my jeep before I move out of California I had the pleasure of meeting you earlier this year when you were a docent at the depot and I was coming back from the drag races in Bakersfield the March Meet also if you ever decide to bring your KTM to Cajon pass to ride I can point you to some neat spots

    Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Looks like most of those roads only have room for 1 vehicle.

    Mark, one of your top 5 videos in my book, really enjoyed seeing things we normally wouldn’t see unless you’re on the train. does UP own all of the land from the railroad out to wherever the road meanders to? also don’t you get a little nervous driving on it so close to a moving train?? thanks

    • @MarkClayMcGowan
      @MarkClayMcGowan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! On this drive, the creek bottom is state land, the rest, UP. The train was moving less than 20 mph, so unless something happens to fall on me, there's plenty of time to react. Thanks for checking it out!

      Oddly enough, it sat vacant for a couple of years. I believe it was a financial thing with the family who owned it.

    That was very enjoyable Mark, I would love to do that same thing on my e-bike someday. Don't know when I will get back down to California again, so expensive to drive now. Please take us along for more drives in the future.

    Cool! Enjoyed that immensely. Who provides road maintenance on those back roads, RR, county, state, etc? I would think one should assure their vehicle is prepared for back road driving., good tires, plentiful fuel, etc. Looks like a ways from anywhere.

    • @MarkClayMcGowan
      @MarkClayMcGowan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The creekbed is state, the rest is railroad, but the railroad maintains them both

    Enjoyed the road video, thanks. Is this stretch of road a no trespassing area posted by the railroad? You mentioned you stopped to change your battery, did you use a different camera for the road video. I thought you usually used your phone to do your train videos. Keep up the great work Mark.

      Email me about the roads. As to the camera, I use my GoPro to shoot drives and rides on Harley and dirtbikes.

    The roads to where you thought tunnel 12 was seemed quite noticeable in the video but I sure can't find the spot on Google Maps. I'll try Earth; it has a distance counter.

    Hi Mark. Love the video. I would like to make that run is it legal?

  • @artillerest43rdva7
    @artillerest43rdva7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    that was neat! seeing all of the route all at once.
    it was neat to see the old tunnel it was not visible
    going the other way . how do you remember all
    of that route with all the twists and turns?
    or did you pass over that route regularly ?
    funny seeing the couple on the road.
    Great job and you avoid the backed up
    traffic! and did a wonderful over view of
    the area. have a great day.

    What are the % of trains that run thru there? Mostly UP I would guess🤔

  • @redshoesgirl
    @redshoesgirl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    sorry if this is a dumb question, but is tunnel 10 still in use?

    • @MarkClayMcGowan
      @MarkClayMcGowan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only dumb questions are ones that aren't asked! Yes, it is. when they double tracked, they excavated around the north side of it for the new track.

    This Area would be considered, “Off the Beaten Path”. Too bad you’re not driving your old company vehicle on these roads. 😬👍

    What caused the derailment in January ?

    • @MarkClayMcGowan
      @MarkClayMcGowan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is my information: the train was having air problems and was picking up speed, so the crew put it in emergency and the train buckled here. It was empty and wasn't an unusually long train.

      It's not as remote as it seems. There are houses all along the hills to the left and many trails leading up to them.
