It has everything to do with the fact that it was a Japanese owned company and the respect that a Japanese audience has for its gladiators of any combat sport. The fighters would tell you that its a completely different atmosphere because your average Japanese audience has a higher fight IQ than most so there was an incentive to put on the best match for the audience. Now, if a fight goes to the ground for 30 seconds, the crowd starts booing. Mostly bc they dont understand the fight on a technical level to appreciate whats actually happening.

Wanderlei had fought CroCop a few years earlier when CroCop was just transitioning from kickboxing into MMA, and most people thought Wanderlei probably ‘won’ that 1st fight despite the official draw result.
But in this rematch in 2006, CroCop had grown into the best HW in the world not named Fedor. Still gives me chills on how Crocop mercilessly massacred Wanderlei here.

CroCop set it up so beautifully with those hard body kicks.

The amount of abuse Wanderlei took here is just incredible. For all the times we've seen him knocked out cold, you have to admit he also had a chin. But did he ever throw a straight punch?

Did he ever even do anything bes8des throw punches? Lol.
Never seen him to anything technical or even a kick before. Just throwing wild haymakers like a dumb ape.

Never, only wild looping punches, that's what eventually worked against him when fighters started becoming better technical strickers.

The knock on Cro Cop was that he wouldn’t always push the action in his big fights. You see in this one what happens when he was the aggressor!

Wand sempre falou demais e sempre lutou de menos. Se lutasse o tanto que falava, seria o melhor de todos os tempos.

Fun fact : 1:55 the fight was over from this moment on . Crocop broke his nose with that left straight

Within one and a half minute Wand sustained a broken nose, a closed right eye and busted ribs. Thorough striking by Cro Cop exposed the limits of Wand's game for the very first time. Both of them are tremendous warriors though and Wand would have a W against CC in his resume if their first fight wasn't an exhibition with only KO deciding the winner.

Likely Brocken ribs and possibly mild brain bleed. This dude was very scary at his prime.

You could tell that last body kick took the life out of Silva, and it also beautifully set up the beheading head kick!
