    You’re a Wizard
    Just tried out this way of walking and my right foot is cracking, 😀 in a good way, plus I’m actually able to walk in a straight line, normally I’m wobbling from side to side.
    I’ve got hammer toes and bunions, I’m sure this will diminish too.
    Wowza I’m delighted My legs began tingling like pins and needles.
    60 years of walking the wrong way, before long I may start jogging again.
    Boy this is going to change everything.
    There’s a saying “No foot, no horse” meaning the health and balance of the hooves greatly determines the importance of motion efficiency/ survival.
    The past month I’ve dedicated myself to sorting out my hips etc, doing a lot of great stuff like stretching, sitting less, Gym, treadmill, cycling but……. I hadn’t looked at my feet or even understood what hip rotation actually meant ( partner nagging me for years 😀)
    Thanks a million 🏃‍♀️
    PS best of all, my groin strain ceased immediately 👍😀

    I have been recovering from a fracture inside my foot/ankle and I seem to be walking better on that side then the side I didn't fracture. I have a bunion on this other foot, calcanius heel pain on the outside and it feels like my ankle wants to lock up as well as the base of my toes is in pain, the ball of my foot. I'm about to turn 35. Dr never put me thru physical therapy after my fracture and I no longer have full mobility in it, still painful to excercise it. Just found your channel and hope to get my mobility back and stop being in pain, I am almost always bear foot because I'm a stay at home mom, I thought it was a bad thing but watching your videos have made me realize I'm walking wrong

    It's so funny you made this video. I've been changing the way I walk with some inspiration from your videos. I noticed I was getting peronial tendinitis symptoms on my left foot/ankle. It was an unbearable sharp pain. With concentration and patience, I started walking differently by mimicking the turns if my right leg/foot and paying attention to my hip movement. I found that my left leg feels a little underdeveloped in mobility/muscle than my right. I was twisting and leaning more on my left in a way I didn't with my right, in short. Now I haven't felt that sharp pain lately and I noticed I definitely walk more evenly on the balls of my feet and feel more muscles being worked in my left leg/foot than I did before.

    • @GrownandHealthy
      @GrownandHealthy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is great progress. My left leg was also an issue, from a childhood injury.

    I am a runner. I tried to improve my running technique and discovered (through videos) That I have a hip impingement (which is evident on x-rays), but I could see the problem in my shoe ware. Some heel ware. I was landing on my heel. Then I saw it while running on a treadmill in front of a mirror. So I tried to correct it so I could run faster. I did and by marking the bottom of my shoes, I was able to track my improvement. I still have a hip impingement, but I walk and run correctly. Only improvement to my life that I noticed is that I don´t wear out my shoes so fast.

Basically no IR ability on the hip led to my patellar cartilage needing surgery at 25 years old (termal sealing through arthroscopy). Wish i could get into this much before symptoms appeared. This might be the end of my natural bodybuilding career due to not knowing how to walk LMAO (wrong stepping on pedals while driving also was a huge contributor). Take care 🤜❤🤛

    Hi! I love your videos, thank you! This year, in a yoga training course, we were introduced to a concept called "skeletability." It refers to how the skeleton has a defined range of motion that varies as much as physical features do among individuals. According to this theory, some people have a very open hip rotation because that's how their bone structure is designed. What's your take on this? According to this instructor, I walk with my feet slightly rotated outwards for this same reason, and I indeed suffer from pain in the arch of my foot. However, walking while "correcting" the posture a bit, by rotating them inwards, feels very unnatural and uncomfortable to me. What do you think? Thanks!

    This video contains valuable, good information. The points are often obscured by extraneous information, tangential asides and poorly structured presentation and lack of script editing.
    You often give several causes/effect relationships to draw a conclusion then after the conclusion, present the effect as a result of the another cause. The way you reverse argument order hampers the point you are trying to make because the viewer is listening to an out of order argument.

    I think overly externally rotated femurs lead to my big toe arthritis. These days everyone does squats in the gym & the cue is ‘knees out’… Lots of strengthening for the external rotators & basically nothing for the internal rotators. I realised very recently I have zero internal rotation strength and ROM & I’m hoping that I’m on the road to having less knee & hip pain & less stiffness in my leg since starting internal rotation strengthening exercises.

    My walk is pretty neutral or slightly internally rotated. But whatever internal rotation I have in walking that way is the limit of what I have. Yet at 66 years of age, I can still sprint. Running straight forward is not a problem. But lateral movement, sitting cross-legged, assuming the pigeon pose, are all but impossible. Those are external rotation if I understand properly. And my orthopedic surgeon tells me that x-rays and MRIs confirm that my hips are bilaterally and congenitally malformed. So rotation is bone on bone and I should just stop trying to do the things that they don't want to do or that put undue stress on my knees or back when I try to do them. And my pelvis cannot tilt either anterior or posterior. This makes sitting on the floor a huge ordeal. I have been trying through countless physical therapists and other body work professionals to improve these things for decades and they only get worse over time. It's extremely frustrating. But I can run and I can ski. So maybe I should just be satisfied with that. I do wear minimal shoes all the time except for ski boots.

    How is it, that ive seen healthy Monks walking barefoot in their home country, with duck feet / externally rotated feet? Could it be that externally rotated feet are normal/natural for some anatomies / posterior pelvic tilts?

      "In their home country"!?
      Were they born monks, or did they adopt a Monk lifestyle after a certain age?

      @@GrownandHealthy yes, the video i saw was definetely not based in the west. I do not know what age they became monks. All 3 of them had externally rotated feet whilst walking bare foot

  • @roy6419

    Curious. Normally the femur is supposed to externally rotate once it passes the hips, is this different from what the hip should be doing?

    • @GrownandHealthy
      @GrownandHealthy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I explain in the video, why this isn't normal. As an example, a proper front split ( a good test of end range mechanics) requires an internally rotated rear leg.

    • @roy6419
      @roy6419 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrownandHealthy ah okay, so if you're internally rotating at this point, would you then need to externally rotate the leg when it is Infront of the hips to make room for the internal rotation? And then the opposite during swing phase? So external rotation at swing phase to make up for the previous internal rotation during late midstance? Essentially doing the opposite for each stage of gait now

    • @GrownandHealthy
      @GrownandHealthy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roy6419 Pointing your feet "straight", with the lateral edge of the feet, will create a triangular shape between the feet.
      Try to maintain this, throughout the gait cycle...if your mobility does not allow you to step freely, in this alignment, internally rotate, just enough to "toe off".

    • @roy6419
      @roy6419 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrownandHealthy got you! Thanks for the advice! Does this translate to the femur turning slightly inwards as well? As that is what it feels like, seems to be helping my gait power a bit

    • @GrownandHealthy
      @GrownandHealthy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roy6419 Yes. The femur will rotate through the Sartorius, which is a key factor in athletic movement. That is why boxers internally rotate (foot pivots internally) to throw a hook. But it will take a lot practice to develop it skillfully, to counteract previous patterns.
