I really appreciate your As Intended series of vids for this. People sometimes give "advice" on beating the game with tricky ships but it's like... If the advice is to get rid of the things you start with as soon as possible, what is even the point of starting the game with this ship?
I like the fact that you pointed out how shieldless runs offer up an additional slot for a system. But you'll really need it, because this run really seems like dancing along the edge of a knife. Props.
I really enjoy these videos, I always feel like I learn a lot and, even though I wasn't there I love the conversation with the viewers, it's all very cosy. Glad to see that people still play this timelessly replayable game years later! Cheers!
I think I’ve gotten to sector 7 doing this once. I wasn’t even trying to go shieldless... I couldn’t get enough scrap together to keep my ship running in one piece to make it to the end.
Wish I was in the stream for this run. The Matrix is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. The Morpheus rescue scene where he breaks the handcuffs, followed a few minutes later by Neo saving Trinity from the falling helicopter still gets me every time.
Maybe do a game where you are not allowed to repair breaches on a Lanius ship( Can be adjust to not fixing on Empty rooms only, or non essential systems and sub system )
Usually, I would say no. I usually only do it if there is a chance of rewards that make up for the cost. The best example is going into an early nebula and getting level 2 piloting. There is a plasma storm event that level 2 piloting can get you free scrap + free drone that would more than pay for the investment. Like everything in FTL, it's a gamble!
It's basically my way of saying "play the ship as I think the Game Developers designed the ship to be played." I try to explain my interpretation at the beginning of each run. Apologies if it's not clear. It's mainly an excuse to play crazy and different builds!
Many of these "as intended" challenges can be figured out from just ship description. Like Engi A says it relies on ion weapons and drones, Stealth A is described as reliant on cloaking and speed(aka dodge in game), etc.
9:24 Great job Auto-Scout, aiming to ion the sensors while in a nebula.

Thanks, Valduria!
Daaaaaaaaaaamn that boss battle was nail biting
Glad you enjoyed it, hombreg! It was tense for me, I can assure you!

Thanks Thomas, I really appreciate the kind words! Keep enjoying these videos and I'll keep making them!
I remember always looking for a you-tuber to play this game glad I found one now :)) great vids keep it up
My pleasure, Celestial! I'll do my best to keep coming up with ridiculous, but fun challenges!
You're not Neo, you look more like Cypher, you know the guy who sold everyone out to re-enter the Matrix and eat digital steak.
Hah, dang it, I wanna be the chosen one! But you're right, I'm definitely more of a Cypher, and I certainly do love a good rare steak...
TBF that steak was the best looking steak I've ever seen, even to this day.
“Ignorance is bliss”
Insane run. Storybook ending.
What a nail biter!!! You are so good at this game.
Thanks, J!
Watched you live today was very nice to learn lots of new things. Found you here on youtube and glad I did really enjoy the content.
Nice, Bill, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos and the livestream! I hope you'll hang out more!

Yup, shieldless runs are super tough! Think I've only won twice in all my hours and attempts.
These runs were amazing!
Thanks, Kistuszek, it was a good day for crazy challenges in FTL for me!
Seeing the long range scanner for hacking hurt me because I always find hacking in most stores I go to
Yeah, I was not happy about selling the LRS, but I felt like delaying too long in getting hacking might doom my run. It worked out, though!
@@rand118 If only you still the had Scrap spent on those 2 Subsystem upgrades :P
Great recovery and great run tho!
Damn, that was sick

*Zoltan shield be like*
Med bay lv3 is for Zoltan Research Station , you get more scrap than lv2 i think
Grats, a very enjolyable video. :)
Thanks, Yasura, glad you enjoyed it!
incredible!
Great run, thanks
Why does your FTL look so much nicer than mine?
I use a mod called "better planets and backgrounds" so that would be my guess. The space images make a big difference in how nice the game looks, imo.
Fuck that was an intense run.
15:27 "Bullet time, yeah..." th-cam.com/video/QGMBn91DM80/w-d-xo.html
that was fuckin crazy though

This would be quite difficult. If system in the room is also damaged breach gets fixed first. It would work on empty rooms I suppose.
Repair bomb would have a use though.
Is it really worth upgrading the subsystems in the early game?

who is the blue alien lady that pops up when someone follows?
Nicely done, very impressive run
That is Diva Plavalaguna, the opera singing alien from 5th Element, one of my favorite movies.
@@rand118 I thought she seemed vaguely familiar, but couldn't place where I had seen her before
N naj
what "As intended" means?
