Haha nice, when i first started playing and watched Hawkes Gaming i went to Lyria and did mining. think cracked a 6.5k rock, did not realise was so hard and took ages. Been to Lyria few times last few days and could not find anything small. remembered how hard was last time and went out to the belt instead. might try again.
I've noticed the sparks flying off the rock where it is being hit by the laser has different intensities based off where you are hitting the rock. It appears the heavy sparks are where the rock is most resistant and when you find a spot with very few sparks it appears to be a weak spot.
Definitely something I've been taking advantage of solo. However, I'd never take a Prospector out for "big rock" breaking. If I'm breaking the right rocks, I'd definitely end up leaving behind ALOT of credits. It's gotta be the Mole everytime.

Why can I see your charge line perfectly yet I have so much trouble seeing mine, it’s sort of over exposed and glowy, having a real hard time because of it…. Had no problems with my roc but the protector is terrible
I just put on some solid boots and kick the damn rock :) but to be honest with my current mole setup i use the helix as the preferred laser but i have a lancet but with the modules it is even weaker.
@@nizemee729 Yes i have done it but it is stressful for sure since the charge is all over the place, very hard to keep in the green area which tends to be tiny, i currently use some mods that lowers the power of the laser by 2% but does not make much difference, but for regular ore i prefer the helix, good thing with the mole is you can have 3 different heads if you like, maybe at some point you will be able to change on the fly but can't right now.

Lol this happening to me was what made me look up this video. Just found this rock that was about 5.7k mass, 48% quant. Just painful having to leave that behind when I can only just barely not break it.
@@larion2336 ive done that with no surges or anything just lancet fltr xlr and focus while you are hitting it with the laser u gotta move it around a little in circles or left to right find some sweet spots and keep at it. it took me quite some time but after heating up and it cooling back down about three times the fourth time it gave in
Last night out in HUR L1 I saw a truly massive astroid. I got 30k'd before I could scan the size, but I'm curious what the largest rocks everyone has seen?
They recently did a visual update to the asteroid fields that added in some huge rocks to vary the scenery a bit- unfortunately not mineable! Biggest mineable asteroids in space are about 5.5K mass, on planets/moons they go up to 8.5K.

Cheers Matt, tbf I managed a 45% 7.5K mass rock with this technique at the weekend. Had to let it run a little red to get the sweet spot to begin with but it cracked with no overcharge.
Short answer is no I’m afraid. Long answer you didn’t ask for is that we did notice a way you could get a laser to stay on when you leave the seat (get in the turret, switch to extract, switch back to mining mode, turn on laser, hold down Y to leave seat). However, that seems to just be a visual bug and didn’t actually apply any energy or buffs to the rock.
42% 5.1k rock is enough to fill your prospector with Quantainium. It all depends upon if the fracturing gives you 100% Quantaninium pieces to collect from.
@@lggy690 I tend to get a little carried away and a fair amount of Quantanium goes poof during fracturing. Either that or it's sinking through the surface.
A very helpful vid AAA from me by the way I found out in my mole it wont let me overclock or overcharge the lazers in any seat any help would be appreciated and they took the table out of it where am a supost to eat now on the floor.

I think when you’re looking for other stuff the helix might be better, tbh I pretty much solely focus on quantanium at the moment as there’s not much incentive to mine anything else - quant is both the biggest challenge from a gameplay perspective and the biggest reward. The Helix would be used in exactly the same way - double surge and stampede. But, the thing that puts me off is it’s then an inferior laser for doing the second crack on high % Q rocks. I understand the pain of the 100K laser - I just reckon they’ve got the costs of the helix and lancet round the wrong way!

Man this is a high risk technique. I've nuked myself twice now. Still practicing, but no longer bringing any fancy armour

It seems much better in 3.16, but 3.15 brought in some terrible glitches to the mining HUD. Hopefully shouldn’t be broken for too long!
You can actually see your mining UI, whereas mine has so much bloom you'd think it was a first gen HDR game. What settings do you use for that?
I tink it's cos he's mining in the dark.
How to activate/use the surge module, at mine there stands just offline.
The modules should be on Cttl + 1, 2 or 3 (the order is down the left side - top being 1)

Pretty much on any of the moons around Crusader, AC or Microtech. This one was on Lyria I believe.

Do you mine quant with the helix ? I tried the helix on a mole and it just couldn't crack a 5k mass rock the resistance was too high...

Weird, it’s still there (I only recorded the footage for this yesterday). Pretty sure you can pick them up from dumpers on PO among other places.
