    Intermittent problems can be a nightmare to track down sometimes. The worst ones are the ones that mysteriously fix themselves. I think sometimes we scare them into working. :-) I'm working on a radio now with intermittent problems but the fault is easy to see. It has bad solder joints all over the board. Thanks for sharing.

    Howdy, Peter. Great job on hunting down the problem. I have an old Kenwood 281a (2 meter) and I love that old radio. It's built like a tank and I'm gonna open it up one of these days. When you open up the radio you have to reprogram the radio and I'm not wanting to do that right now. Maybe in the future. Cheers & 73 from W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee

    In this particular case, my sense is it is the long plug tines, and when disassembling the components, I feel that instead of a cold solder joint, it was the pins getting slid in and out, thus cleaning them. a radio running as hot as this one worries me, but no fix for that. good job peter, thank you for your dedication.

    That is how it goes sometimes Peter. Hard to track an intermittent fault of this nature. Great try and looks like you got it. Thanks for sharing my friend.

    Nice fix Peter, those dried joints can be a real pain to track down sometimes. I've lost count of the number of times I have resorted to just reflowing an entire PCB due to so many joints looking suspicious.

    Hey Peter! You have successfully repaired the Kenwood. You narrowed down the source of the problem, reflowed everything in that area, as far as I would be concerned, job done. And well done at that. The soak test after confirms your repair. It did look like someone had been "in before" due to the excess of uncleaned flux and skewed surface mounted caps, etc. Who knows the history of their repairs??? And the blue tape with the smiley face? Amazing what is found in previously "repaired" radios Peter!! Good work and continued success! Alles gute! 73, Brian EI8EJB

    change Q102. it worked on high temperature for a long time (you can see the brown discoloration on the PCB). Also spray a good contact cleaner in the CN107 and CN108 and the corresponding pins.

    hi good video as always, one of those strange faults, nothing worse than when it fires up lol, im curious why q101 q102 needed why not supply regulator from 13.8v line? seems alot extra circuitry .cheers

      Hello Paul, that is a switched voltage for the rig only applied to the circuit when radio is fired up. You don't want power to the radio in stand by...Thanks for watching 73

    Those tin plated pins that join the PC boards together are probably making intermittent contact and need some Deoxit or something like that. The green LED that lights up to show which band is selected is really dim and mine is like that too. Do you have a fix for that?

    Intermittents are the Dog Jobs in electronics repair, very frustrating. I use to laugh when people would hit their TV's to get them to work. If I seen anyone doing that, I would say you're just making it worse. When you let these kinds of jobs go back, how confident are you that they won't come back? Well anyways Peter great repair as always, enjoyed it with my coffee. Cheers !

      @TRXLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dog job is the right wording for this....You never can be 100% confident that the radio comes back. The best is to have an open word for the owner and you have to explain honestly how this all hangs together...Thanks for watching Tom Cheers

    Good job Peter...I wonder why those audio modules draw so much current with no audio being produced? BTW, what were the two green clipped wires for? 73 - Dino KL0S

      Ah okay Dino my talking must have been misleading the audio amps only getting warm if audio is present..... I Have seen the green wires too but have nor investigated the function. Might be exciting to find ou. Have a nice week end 73

    the spec needs to be researched on the pdf of the manufacturer.
    the guide is for general purpose but the pdf will give more accurate specs.
    double the resistance is not great and maybe with heat it may get worse.
    I would change them while you are there.
    just friendly advice

      max to m or su series is 0.20 endurance 150% = 0.50 @120hz

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right that is what I always say and what is my video #76 is about. But on the other hand I'm not a friend of swapping all out as long there is no real need. In my opinion you always need to judge. Have always in mind that labour is not cheap and someone has to pay it. This radio is not from the sixties the caps are not known to go bad in this radio. The test values are not to worse so we can save money. That is the way I approach this things. If you are doing this jobs for your own you do it different for sure...Thanks for comment 73

      Hi ,
      I believe it is because these steps have a higher heating due to the current that is consumed , 73
