I totally agree about the jigging technique. Very very effective method. My other preferred style is tossing spoons. A couple years back while at Silver lake fishing the entrance to Rush Creek in the evening, I was tossing my favorite spoon and went 47 for 48 casts in a row, all browns. That frog pattern spoon killed em! But jigging is a gas too.
Yeah that's bcuz they had that record breaking snowpack. I thought this year it would open around normal. I heard last year it was still frozen over much later.
@@gonfishn I was there all this week we did good . Last October I caught that 10lber there and 16 tag big fish last season. Virginia just opened a couple weeks ago
Estevan, I'd love to see u guys change things up and do a vintage rod and reel trip instead of the new JDM stuff. Would be a gas to see u guys using the old glass rods and vintage spinning reels. I still fish my 55 year old Fenwick FS 65 with same vintage Zebco Cardinal 4 rear drag I bought when I was 13 yrs old. Still my favorite set up. Super sensitive rod and smooth as silk reel even by today's standards. Try using the old Mitchell Garcia 301, Quick, Zebco or D.A.M. reels with fiberglass ultra light rods. I still have all mine from growing up. Try it. You'll like it! I grew up riding my bike to Irvine lake way back when , yanking trout and catfish til I ran out of bait. Good times.
I’ve had and used lots of old awesome gear definitely fun but technology has definitely gotten better leaps and bounds my entire rod and reel weigh a less then just a rod from back then . We definitely might do something like that for fun though. Thank you
Doing a vintage gear video would be fun to feel and explain the differences u notice in the new versus old fishing gear. Reel action and smoothness of drag, rod sensitivity would be fun to compare. I still swear by my 50 yr old Fenwick rods. Super awesome action. Anyhow just a thought for future video as a change up. Do a side by side catch and explain using your JDM and then the vintage rod and reel.
Wow, Virginia just opened recently?? That's crazy. There must have been lots of holdover snowpack. I usually head up there 1st week in June for many years and never had a problem getting to the lake. Glad u guys did well! Awesome.
@@gonfishn we sell off the instagram only . As fast as we get them in there gone . These thing are made of all the best parts from Japan the guides alone are hard to get and run $120 a set it’s the Lamborghini of trout rods .
By the way I went back and listened to the drag the sound you are hearing is the braid when you reel fast it makes that screech sound on the bottom guide and the line roller . Only braid does that for some reason you can especially hear it when I’m turning and burning in
Great video! I was checking out some of the waterland sunglasses on their website but am unsure as to which ones I should get. What color lens and model type do you own?
@GoldenStateFishing , you may want to try the new Sougayilang 1000 reels up against your Stella lol. I guarantee it will smoke that $500 reel that's louder than my Cuisinart food processor. I had to say that Estevan. Still laughing!
lol 😂 not a chance how loud the drag is has nothing to do with performance these reels and my vanquishs are definitely the best I’ve owned and tried 100s of other great reels and have owned exist also and these are definitely the best out there hands down . Smoothest reel there is hands down.
@@GoldenStateFishing, Robs reels must be defective bcuz his don't sound like an International Harvester tractor lol! His reels are quiet even when he's reeling in a hog. I'll set up a go fund me page to get you a nice reel. You're a good sport Estevan
@@gonfishn lol rob gets his reels from same place I do lol who do you think got him into Japanese reels . you just don’t hear them bc his go pro is on his hat .
Estevan, that's not what Rob told me lol!! I think someone put some gravel in your reel while u weren't looking. Hell ..even if u didn't tell what part of the lake u were fishing on, all I'd have to do is roll down my window and take a listen. I'd be able to spot you from across any lake just by the noise! I'd wear hearing protection bro. Save your hearing. Get some sleep. That's some funny shiznit.
Estevan, also I was curious why you guys aren't using other manufacturers gear let's say like Daiwa Presso rod and a Presso reel? Or even like a Fenwick Elite rod with a 10 bearing Pflueger President reel? I would like to see if you guys actually don't prefer the less spendy stuff over your JDM gear. Most anyone who has used both will actually prefer the drag of a Pflueger over their $500 Shimano. I'm using anything from Dobyns Sierra series rods to Lamiglas, Santiam, you name it. I think you'd be hard pressed to say they don't perform on par or better than your $400 Katana. Doing videos using different gear is actually a good thing for your viewers. Just a thought.
@@gonfishn I’ve been jigging for 30 years and it’s by far the best way to catch trout nothing and I mean nothing works better . The man that started it all just throwing jigs taught me when I was 10 years old and designed his own rods specifically for throwing jigs he is gone now and my rods are the katana are from his design but with my experience have made it it even better. Nothing will out perform the katana it’s one of lightest rods at only 2.1 ozs and the sensitivity is insane. The guides are Fuji torzites some of the highest end guides in the world . As for the reels I’ve used and owned every reel you have named and so many more and nothing compares to the lightness and quality of shimano and daiwa jdm reels . There is a few Daiwa reels I do like like the presso and the exist but me and lots of others still feel shimano is better but it’s preference. So in the end I use shimano jdm and katanas bc there is nothing better this is the highest you can go .
Estevan, I'm still not so sure your screaming noisey reel is coming from the drag. As a Mechanical Engineer for 35yrs, that sure sounds like gear whine to me unless your drag is set so loose that it rotates with every crank of your reel. Also if you are running carbon fiber drag washers in your reel you might want to replace with oiled felt for smoother quieter operation. I tried a test with several of my own high end reels and none of them squeal like yours does under pressure. I would put money on very worn out gears. Anyhow, thanks for another great video! Love them.
Well I have 4 of these same Stella’s and there all the same and your always seeing a different one in each video so definitely nothing wrong with them I have them serviced all the time they are smooth as butter 🧈. Thank you
That is so strange but I'll take your word for it. What that really tells me is not to ever drop money on a Stella if it's going to sound noisier than a meat grinder that has sat out and gotten rusty lol!! My hearing is shot and I can't stand to hear those things squeal as you're reeling in! I would ask for a refund or ask Shimano to watch your videos and listen to their own reels. Not a very good advertisement if u ask me. Keep the rod bent! Thanks Estevan
@gonfishn trust me it’s by far the best 1000 size reel in the world hands down that’s why I own so many . It’s loud bc my microphone is 8 inches from it . Nothing sounds better than drag screaming. Music to my ears 👂. Thank you
