    The finish on that gun is so nice you can see the red light from your camera in its reflection. I know you said you may not be doing videos forever, but I have enjoyed the ones you’ve done, especially the revolver videos. Thanks for sharing your collection and observations-they have helped a lot of fellow gun enthusiasts.

      That’s not the red light from the camera - it really does have that faint red circle 🔴 on it. I own one and I thought it would bother me, but I quickly got used to it. The finish is amazing - photos and video don’t do it justice

      That finish WILL come off over time. I think it adds to the bad ass, but some people disagree

    I've been a Revolver guy for over 40 years. When I was a young LEO, I carried a 4 Inch Colt Trooper. I currently own 8 Revolvers. 6 Smith&Wesson, 1 Ruger and 1 1978 Colt Python.
    The Manurhin MR73 has been on my radar for years. I really like the 5.25 inch, but your videos are selling me on the 4 inch. Like you, I would definitely shoot this frequency. The Python is a safe Queen. I'm also interested in the SPOR Revolver line.
    The Glock 45, is definitely on my list. I have a Gen 5 34 MOS.
    I enjoy your channel and your taste in handguns. Thank you for your videos

    What an outstanding gun! I'm totally in love with the bluing, I can only imagine how much better it must appear in person. I would totally carry this one, too. I'm trying to picture it w/ivory stocks for the ultimate edc flex, but either way, it's so darn good! 👍👍

    I know a guy who owned one of these guns and he put around 40,000+ rounds through it. He also hit another guy to buy one and that friend also put over 40,000 rounds through it. My friend lives in St. Augustine , FLORIDA. The only thing that breaks on this revolver is a piece inside the gun that is the weak point. He had Msnhurrin replace the part all three times free of charge. He installed the replacement part himself. He loved it, I loved to shoot it and ultimately, he sold it to buy other guns cuz he got bored. But, yeah, as long as you don't shoot it over 16,000 rounds, that internal weak point won't fail on you.

    THE revolver in my opinion! Fantastic stuff indeed. Manurhin is a fantastic manufacturer of guns. The history is fascinating. I shot a few of their old Walther PP stuff in both 32 and 22 cal. way back when I was working as garage guy at a local police station here in Sweden back in the early eighties. Even those were well made guns. Ahh, the memories... Great video as usual, sir!!!!!

    I personally would not consider a revolver to my own "be all end all" that doesnt come in a 44 magnum chambering and a 5 inch barrel but thats my preference for a "Perfect Packin Pistol" as John Taffin once wrote about.
    However. The service record, the longevity, durability, and overall quality of the Manurhin makes it a VERY strong contender if not the defacto best 357 magnum ever made.

    I’m really impressed by the execution of that piece of functional art. The contrasting flat black top strap, firing pin still on the hammer, cylinder that takes “commoner” K-frame speed loaders, and no Hillary-hole. The grips, despite not being of exotic wood pedigrees, really help make the revolver stand out. I also question why US manufacturers don’t copy the grip design or at least offer something similar. S&W could eliminate the internal lock and transfer manufacturing costs to something useful that actually doesn’t hurt the reliability. I haven’t done any custom work to a S&W for a long time but suspect that one could get close to the cost of the MR73 having a US made wheel gun brought up to those standards. That would include the initial cost of the gun. Wouldn’t include the fees and such involved in the importation. Anyway, great video. Hope to hear more.

    People freak out a lot over the size of a gun when selecting a carry gun. Back when we didn’t have a lot of choices people carried large revolvers and 1911’s all the time. It’s nice to have a lot of choices now days but I still carry full size guns because that’s my preference. I don’t care if there are smaller options with the same capacity. When you have a quality holster and belt the weight isn’t an issue

    This is the MR73 I have. $4,400+ (price, tax, shipping & insurance) to Bud’s in Feb. 2022, gun arrived in Nov. 2023, then after transfer fees and waiting period I took it home. My first centerfire experience was a Smith K-frame, and I’ve long wanted a “forever” .357 K-frame. That’s exactly what the MR73 was designed to be. I agree it begs to be used. That Trausch grip is great, if not ideal for concealed carry. BTW mine came set a bit light on double action, got a few light primer strikes. But both adjustments on the MR73 are simple to use.

  • @guns4freedom

    💯 agree on the grips. I thought they were ugly AF and was going to replace them with Nil, but then I actually owned and used them and think they are the best revolver grips I’ve ever used - sooo comfortable!
    Makes 357 feel like 38 special and accuracy is insane

    Excellent review! THANKS! I also own a MR73 (5 1/4) and a Korth Mongoose. Love both, both have their pro's and con's, but if I could only keep one it WOULD BE the MR73 (it's the "real deal" ultimate combat handgun, bar none). I find that both guns have an amazing double action pull, but with the MR73 I can "catch/stage" the hammer at the very last point before it breaks, with the Korth I usually end up pulling all the way through by accident. The other thing that often doesn't get mentioned about the MR 73 is it's unparalleled balance and natural effortless pointing. It has no rival in this regard (Colt, Smith, Ruger, DW, etc.) IMO. Being you own both as I do, I would be very interested if you find my assessment to mirror your won observations! Thanks again and keep up the good work!

      thanks for these observations. I've had a year of experience with the Mongoose and I need more time with the MR73. It's a tough call. Now we also have Spohr... I almost got one in December over the MR73 but because I did not know a ton about Spohr I was hesitant and decided to hold out for a MR73. I'd love to compare this 'new' Spohr to a Mongoose specifically after watching all the vids on them. BUT I got a lot of work to do with this MR73 first hahaha.

But I am very interested in Spohr and I'm trying to see if I can find someone that owns one so I can just see what its all about, etc... but it is obvious although not 'rare' not that many people own one. its been a very long time since I carried that Hack! I put away the Ultra Light Carry Compact months ago in favor of the wheelie again. Well I tried L frame and it's "too big" as it moves around quite a bit. It's like this odd dimension. I mean probably could make do with a K frame holster but the L its too big. I have the MR73 and a 586 that I highly polished. The 586 or 686 is a great choice, but there’s nothing like shooting a MR73 IMHO. It’s kinda like Corvette vs Ferrari - on paper the differences aren’t that great, but there’s something special that isn’t a spec that translates on paper.

  • @ronmartblog
    @ronmartblog 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I’m curious if other MR73 owners have the same issue I have with the trigger shoe whereby the edge of the trigger shoe face to the side of the trigger shoe is a very hard 90 degrees that isn’t polished smooth so it can dig in to the finger. At first I thought it was a good feature to avoid having my finger slip in DA but then when shooting 100 rounds one day of 38 & 357 mixed, I ended up with a nasty blister.
    I shoot 40 different firearms during the course of a year averaging 85 shots per day, so I don’t have girly hands. This is the only firearm to do that in 38 years of shooting.

    • @TheOl1911
      @TheOl1911  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So after 50 rounds of 158gr FMJ Mags my trig finger pad did get 'raw' so I'm with you. I much prefer a smooth polished trigger. The 2nd Gen Colt Python has a similar 'feel'. Also I noticed the grips drew a little blood in the web of my hand after shooting those 50rds! But hey no biggie. Its a great shooter.

The Spohr definitely is interesting but it's too new. I talked to one owner recently and he of course loves it but he stated he likes his MR73 more. He even told me don't be in a rush to get one. Wait for the 3" to come out. I had been looking at the 284 Carry and as another high end wheelie guy I know stated "It seems like a S&W Perf. Center 686 on steroids..." So I'm kinda on the fence. This is a very-high quality, combat-proven, very durable .357 magnum revolver. It is perhaps the strongest .357 magnum revolver ever made, but it's also among the most pricey. So, I'm not exactly sure why anyone would wanna purchase one of these expensive wheelguns unless he's a gun aficionado with thousands of dollars to spare and/or he enjoys firing hundreds of .357 magnum rounds everyday. As wonderfully engineered as the Manurhin is, it too has its own flaws, like the serrated trigger face, which isn't great for speed shooting. The other flaw is there's no "chamfer" whatsoever on the charge holes of Manurhin's cylinder. My S&W model 60 .357 revolver has chamfered charge holes, and it's less than one-fourth the cost of a new Manurhin MR73.

    To be honest everything you said about this revolver. Is exactly how I feel about my Python and 586. I mean I wouldn’t mind having a MR 73 in my collection or a Korth. But I’m not gonna pay 4 to 5 thousand dollars for a foreign revolver. A lot of hype because it’s not common.

    the mr73 is rated at a tighter grouping than the korth. AND it has a longer durability rating.
    I wouldn't carry it. They're used as sniper DMR revolvers and are highly crafted and valuable. like using an antique museum knife made by a famous artisan worth 10 million as your cooking knife... even worse when you think about how we all have multiple working man knives anyways.
    save the mr73 for competition shooting and medium range target is my opinion

    Oh my. I really like the high end guns…BUT, the $300 dollar Brazilian beauty (specifically the 6 shot ,3”Rossi,also marked Taurus in some of the smaller print on the other side of the revolver )my buddy just got is so well made and practical…It’s made buying even something like a Kimber K6s less attractive. This gun might be worth more one day & good for a collection ect. But carry. Nahh. Not very realistic for the average person. Enjoy though..go man go.

      hehehe well Speaking of Spohr someone locally told me they know of someone that owns the 284. I am trying to track this owner down to see if it would be possible to test his out and do a vid on it. I am very curious about Spohr and almost got the 562 Black instead of the MR73 (when I could not find one) but decided to hold off as it's a new company and I would be more interested in their 3" model for possible carry. Stay tuned....

      This wouldn’t surprise me, as Spohr is made by people who started out customizing and improving Smith and Wesson revolvers. Like Performance Center on steroids. But I’ve seen how Manhurin are made, and the parts themselves seem more solid and well machined, even if the finish and refining may be better on the Spohr.

    Has to be one of the most utilitarian looking revolvers on the market. Sure, the blueing is lovely, But there is no style or beauty in it's form. My Taurus 66 looks cooler. Anyway, sure it is lovely to shoot and that's really what matters the most.

    I think its a beautiful gun and i know the effort that went into making it. However, now there are 8 round .357 mags on the market. This one has the firing pin attached to the hammer meaning your really only have 5 rounds when you are talking conceal carry.. because of that i cant help but feel how antiquated this has become. Great collector item though!

      We can, and fairly easily. Most major gunshops try to keep a few on stock, either brand new Chapuis or sometimes ex-duty Manurhin built. And on average for better prices than what I've heard is the norm in the US.

    Dumb,,, this MR73 retails for around $3700 ... RIP OFF !
    I can buy 3 brand new Ruger Redhawk 357 Mag with an 8-shot cylinder and still have change left over.
    And do the same thing on the range or anywhere else but with 2 more bullets loaded.
    And a Ruger Redhawk is built tough, easy to disassemble and clean, totally.
    So if you get sand inside your delicate Euro Revolver, you're screwed.

      Nothing delicate about the Ruger RedHawk either, but I can easily dissemble a Ruger Redhawk/ Ruger Security Six or Ruger BlackHawk , clean the parts in gasoline, light coat of oil and re-assemble it, in the field if necessary.
      If you drop your MR73 in the mud or sand, well, good luck.
