"not here for the DOLL content??? " We are here for the YOU content. If you decide to put up house painting content, ocean cruising content, WHATEVER - it is YOUR enthusiasm that I'm here for... and i love it all. :)
Seeing you open an AG box on christmas and dress her in historical clothes- omg lemme tell you a story. The year is 1994, and I am 7 years old, living in Northwest Territories, Canada- all purchases are mail-order, and I've never seen an AG doll, but I have 1 magazine that I got from WHO KNOWS WHERE and I sleep with it and go through it daily. My parents saved up for months to buy the doll I wanted- Addy Walker. My mom's a quilter, and sews us clothes and snowsuits and anything else we need and don't buy from the Sears catalog, so she also orders the sewing pattern kit, which Pleasant Company used to sell. Then she was working on making us christmas dresses, as you do- and she bought extra of my fabric, black with big pink roses and green petals. She first made Addy's Christmas Dress with this fabric, then she modified a dress pattern to make my own christmas dress match. Then she opened the doll box, dressed Addy in her new christmas dress, and folded her original pink dress at the bottom. The feeling of opening a box on christmas eve to find my Addy, dressed exactly like me by some absolute magic? I don't think anything will ever match that. I'm sitting in my room as a 35 y-o woman and I have Addy in homemade historical clothes watching me from the corner of the room, because I learned to sew by making her dresses and skirts and blouses, and I have kept doing it for decades. I just.. felt all sorts of ways about watching you open that doll and dress her up.
Doll clothes always have you sew the shoulder seams, attach the sleeves and then sew up the sides and underarm sleeve seam as one. I almost always use the same technique sewing children's costumes. I find it works very well and I'm always surprised that the method isn't used more with adult clothes. To make costuming even easier, I use raglan sleeves whenever I can.
Doll clothing is just like any other sewing.... except you have a model you can drape on who doesn't yell about errant pins. And also hemlines of 8" are way easier to justify hand-sewing than 28" hemlines!!! Doing it tiny may have as many pieces but at least they're very small pieces!!!
I use a rubber band to secure under layer sleeves before I put on outer layers. It can be removed if necessary or desirable after the dressing part is over. (This is how my Aunt Neomia did it in the 1960s, so I've been doing it a long time.)
I love the "doll content" - it's a nice change every once in a while. For the name, I like Emmeline, Adeline, and from my own list, Amelia. Have fun choosing the name that fits her!
Piecing is Period. Almost did not watch this today but a good friend just got a naked American doll and this one is far more interesting than the 1960s shift dress. I use scraps a lot (including for plus size me) Tips: Diagonal seams are a feature detail...so are slot seams...and with all the pretty silks and such you use, remember the Victorian craft of crazy quilting is easier with a sewing machine with fancy (or even utility) stitches) they were no waste stitchers before we even thought about it
I lvoe all content - the dolls are cool because you can see how the historical gowns are made quickly, and of course in the past girls would practice by making clothes for their dolls, so you are carrying on a tradition! For names, part of me wants to suggest Tiffany, as we know it was in use from medieival times onwards and was a traditional "Christmas" time name (it was more a last name during the later years, but still it was around). Any bibical name or saint's names would also be a safe bet, but especially Mary/Maria etc as that was so commen (after all the Holy Roamn Empress Maria Theresa named all 11 her daughters Maria with differnt middle names!)
Yvette (from the German for the Yew tree) is apparently a fairly old name. That said, I have a soft spot for an old family name: Mehitable. You can even shorten it to Hettie.
Love watching doll clothes being made, since I did a lot of that, it's beautiful. Bumb pad worked great. Such neat hand work too, I didn't do it unless it was only way. You are meticulous. Thanks for Sharing. Happy New Year.
I've always wanted a doll to dress in historical outfits, we didn't have a lot of money growing up but I would see other girls play with their historical American girl dolls & would just love the outfits! I personally love the doll clothes videos & wouldn't mind seeing more! She's so adorable in her outfit so lovely. Maybe a popular name from the 1700s or 1800s would be cool like Minnie or Lucia, Mary & martha are popular too but I feel it's too obvious lol
Ok, so I never had an American Girl Doll. My parents got me Cabbage Patch, the when AGD became popular, they were not for spending the $$ on one, and I was just getting away from dolls. I have always loved the concept of them. My niece collects them now, but I rarely see her. I got myself one of the knock off ones and I have started making historical outfits for her, but I also have made some dress forms for her too. I would love to see a playlist of outfits you make for your AGDs, as well as more videos like this in the future. I'm currently working on a set of stays for my doll and I am in tab binding hell.
I really like Tiffany - it sounds very modern for a modern girl, but its actually a really traditional name going back to the 12th century so it's perfect for a time traveling doll!
I'm not normally a fan of dolls and doll clothing, but your enthusiasm for it is so infectious I love these videos anyway! It's so nice to see you doing something you love so much. I think Yvette could work as a historical name, but if you're set on changing it I would like to push for Katherine (I am biased though!) but I do love the idea of a time travelling doll named Emmeline.
❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️Red fabric is gorgeous. What a great job of using the pieces of scrap. The ruffle looked amazing. Sew a little ribbon on the end of the ficu so you can tie it. Yes!!! Make more outfits!! Hats tooooo! Love the doll clothes! Maybe Brigitte ? Phoebe? Emma? Anne? ❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️have a super happy 2023🥳!
started laughing when you said "everyone seems to be able to make their dolls stand up"... I can almost never get my BJDs to stand without their stands. and mine are made with basically a skeleton so they *should* be able to stand but nope, can't make them stand up on their own. Yvette looks adorable in her new dress. I'm actually working with a very similar shade of red taffeta at the moment, so I got very excited seeing you work with it too.
Yvette looks adorable in her new red silk gown! 😍 Yvette isn't a bad name, but if you if you're looking for a name, I do like Charlotte. Then there's Prudence, , Martha, Elizabeth, Charity, Marie-Louise, Priscilla, Rochelle, Rosette, Josette, Angelica, Cosette... 😉
I love this fabric so much! The color just stuns and glows. It is one of my favorites. The outfit turned adorably. Any little girl (or adult) would love to call it their own.
I love that you do doll content since I have shifted my attention to exploring historic dress from full size to doll. This shift started a month ago when my sister told me she was getting an American Girl doll for her youngest grand-daughter. She was so excited because she found one that looked like her, which was .... (wait for it) Evette, same as your new doll. It got me thinking about all the historical American Girl dolls and how I could still explore periods and could make full looks unlike the full size projects which I could never find time to document. I even have made my own 18 inch doll which has the same measurements as AG which means if I ever get one my wardrobe would fit. Have a great New Year with your full size and doll clothes, I will be watching.
I stumbled on this video by accident and was surprised to see my doll outfit featured as your inspiration! Thank you! I’m glad it inspired you to make the Pemberley Threads pattern “Charlotte” because it’s a lovely pattern. I do recommend stay-stitching and clipping curved seams because it helps them lay smooth when pressing. I also like to use fine silk thread when hand-stitching silk because it almost disappears.
Ohhh, how precious is she! That shade of red actually looks lovely on her and it's so freakin' cute to boot! As for names, I'm liking Adeline, I'll put forth some suggestions; Lucia, Isolde, Calliope, Cassia, and Mila
if people don't watch the doll content they are missing out, I had no interest in dolls before watching your doll videos, and now I'm hooked. Also I think Amber might be a cute name for her
I made 18th cent clothes for Barbie back in 1976 for the bicentennial. I now have BJDs and sometimes still sew for them. Generally medieval stuff because thats my main era.
Goodness you did have a good Christmas. The color of that silk is quite rich and shimmery. Since you are going to do fiddly bits and your new model will be tilted and twirled and turned upside down, patience in attitude and Patience in name. Many more happy hours being a doll couture!
I don’t make doll stuff anymore, the kids are grown and grandson wasn’t interested. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy watching when you do it. The dress is so lovely the silk simmers making the dress pop! It’s a very stunning look. And hey scraps have to be used up some how. What better way than something for your dolls
I definitely like the name Adeline. Doll content is as good as like thrifts up cycling and all of that kind of things so definitely every now and again I like them
I love when you do some doll content! I have a lot of videos to catch up on since we were on vacation but now i'm going to absolutely splurge and marathon what i've missed from your channel. This dress and doll are so pretty! I adore the red dress especially and how puffy the skirt is. I don't personally care for the white part on the front as it blocks from seeing any of the bodice. Yvette is a cute name but for more historical names Nicolette and Isolde are both pretty ones that are from the french version of Tristan and Isolde.
I think it's interesting (at least to me) to see how much some folks are into dolls, in this case the American Girl dolls. I keep thinking it may be nostalgia that I just don't have as I was not much of a doll player as a child and never even heard about the American Girl dolls until well into my adulthood. Since I never had them and have no fond memories of having them as a child, I just don't get into them. Not a diss on you or your content - just a bit of self-reflection. Happiness is important and you should keep doing the American Girl content.
All my channels end up crossing over eventually, cause so many of my lifestyle channels have got into sewing new you’re making some doll clothes. I love it😊
Oh my goodness, she is such a pretty doll! I haven't looked at AG dolls in a while but I think I will now. I love the idea of her time traveling with you.
I don't like to sew small things (which includes doll clothes), but I like to watch other people sew small things. So, I enjoy the doll content. The funny thing is that Yvette is definitely a grandma name in French (in Québec, as these are regional phenomenons). My dad may have had an aunt Yvette... Of the names you are considering, my favourite is Marguerite (Margot).
She is so pretty and I love the dress! I like the doll content. I watch too many doll customizers, I was half expecting you had found an old beat up doll to give a new life to!
This is my first visit to your channel because of your doll content but subscribed and hit the bell because I like your style 😊 I would appreciate more detailed showing of the actual technique in the hand sewing but in all steps too.
I really love the doll clothes! I was a hardcore American girl kid. My kids aren't nearly as into dolls, I made them doll clothes when they were younger, but I have stopped since they just don't play with them much. I do miss making doll clothes. I am going to take a page from your book and just make some because it makes me happy. 😀 That red dress really turned out spectacular. Also, she looks like a Caroline or Charlotte to me.
Amazing! I just love it. I look forward to seeing Yvette more as you create more doll content. Totally here for it just as much as the human content (or he cat and dog content, lol). I contemplated buying myself a new doll, too, the Sapphire Peacock holiday limited girl. I wanted her so bad, but I just couldn't afford her. Maybe another time... Now you need to wear your Brunswick with Yvette in this dress. The two of you will look fantastic together.
😻Beautiful dress 😻 I love that silk😻. my daughter has two American girl dolls and I bought a book with historical costume patterns for them. So far I have only made a basic Regency outfit to try out the patterns but they are cute.
I'm always here just for the visit with you and I do love dolls & only make doll clothes (craft patterned by me) so almost everything I see sewn I picture in miniature. I don't know why but I see your AG doll as an Elsbeth/Elzbeth. Maybe an endearing nickname of Ellie or Els (Elz) ... when the snooty girls aren't around. lol If I were to buy her, that's what I'd name her but I do have a beautiful vintage porcelain face, chest, arms & legs/ cloth body doll who will be getting all proper underpinnings for a boudoir look in the end. Maybe a dressing/morning gown someday.
I love your sewing whether it is human or doll sewing I am here for it. That tiny silk dress is adorable! Names for your new little Miss, Lillie, Flora, Lottie, Caroline, Beatrice, Sophie & Marie. I tried to find old ones. xoxo's Sandie😊
Always here for the doll content! 😍 I got Evette recently (to model historical gowns) and thought about naming her Cora, but Evette was already too stuck in my head lol. I do think Cora suits her though!
I love the doll content. I am saving up all the ones you share for when my child wants doll clothes. And using the order tips when sewing her things now
I’m so happy to watch you make this! I made this same pattern for my niece's American Doll as a Christmas gift. It was my first historical sewing project and it turned out adorable. Love all your content!!
A wonderful little dress! I feel like doll dresses would be a good trial for a decade one haven't made a dress for before😊 say hi to dora and lion❤ happy new year ❤
I think the name Charlotte was already picked for her when you did the Charlotte pattern. Just meant to be. I like the doll sewing. I think if anyone wanted to try and make one of these fancy dresses but was hesitant they could try out some skills on a doll dress.
The top 10 most common girl names from the 1830s (that's you favourite time period, right?) are Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, Catherine, Margaret, Sarah, Jane, Rose, Emily, and Laura. Down at Number 16 is Charlotte, but I really like that one. Plus, it's the name of your first pattern for her!
Yvette's new dress is beautiful! The tucked-in fichu looks much better. I think Yvette's name should remain Yvette, with a middle name added that the 21st-century Yvette uses as a code name when she time travels. Of the choices you showed, Marguerite spans the centuries, so I vote for Yvette Marguerite.
Hi Rebecca! I am very new to your channel and I also subscribed because I love how you sew Historical costumes not only for yourself, but mostly for your AG dolls. It is so nice to see someone actually sew these Pemberly Threads other Historical doll clothes patterns before I actually sew them myself. You make it look so easy. I am a very visual person so it really helps me quite a bit. I was wondering who made your fabric on the deer dress that you are wearing for Christmas? I absolutely love it. I love how you complimented it with tartan fabric as well. I want some deer fabric. Thank you very much for your response to my question.
im pinching this from Abby Cox, Bernadette Banner, Nicole Rudolph and co, but Catherine de Medici would be suitable as thay have a joke that she was a time traveller (see Abbys 'History of the Corset' video)
Maybe Evette has a different name for all of her identities when she goes time traveling? Or maybe she's a Time Lord and has a name that starts with The.
Idk how you don’t order more to have a matching dress but it’s sooo pretty! I think Beth would cover you from Tudor to 1900. She would look cute in ruff❤❤❤
While I have a personal bias toward both Yvette and Yvonne, yeah, no, she doesn't look like either of those. Traditionally: Adelaide, Claire, Clara, Rose, Rosa. Not quite so traditional: Wilhelmina, Cordelia, Charlotta, Dorothea, Loraine, Leonora, Marcella, (or one that I personally have been called) Mirabella. Those are all kind of heavy. She might be something lighter, like Rosa, or Melody. Can't wait to see what you choose. Also, doll clothes are frightfully fiddly. I have a little 11 inch that I sort of inherited. She needs makeup and to either have her wig properly fitted on her, or get a new one that actually fits. None of which do I know how to do. I finally located a nicer skirt for her, but, Oh, there is so much to do. I think this year, I'm going to have to find a local artist to get her set up. I used to make barbie doll clothes when I was a girl -- I don't have the spoons for that anymore. But, yes, you did such a lovely job on this dress. It's inspiring.
Beautiful, wonderful, what fun. I do not know the name of the white piece that you have around her neck. The closed caption prints "fishy look" or "fishy". I don't think so. Please educate me! Clare comes to mind for a suggested name. 🤗
Wonderfully done. I wonder, did the Evette doll come with any underwear? I noticed that in the descriptions for the World By Us dolls on the American Girl website, there is no mention of underwear, while descriptions of most other dolls do mention underwear.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Was she still wearing them by the time you put the shift and stockings on her, or... did you not see a need to remove them? I feel like a modern doll's underwear would easily be hidden under historical dresses and petticoats.
@@cartoonygothica I took them off because I was going to put bloomers on her instead, but then I remembered that Felicity and Elizabeth also just wear a shift with no bloomers underneath.

What she said.
My sentiments exactly!
I agree !
Amen, and True, that .

Who doesn’t love an itty bitty bum roll for a doll… ❤️❤️❤️ and who can’t swoon over a touch of Dora and Lion.🧡💛🧡💛🧡💛
Piecing is Period. Almost did not watch this today but a good friend just got a naked American doll and this one is far more interesting than the 1960s shift dress.

I love this fabric so much! The color just

Love the dress it turned out gorgeous she looks like a Felicity to me.

I contemplated buying myself a new doll, too, the Sapphire Peacock holiday limited girl. I wanted her so bad, but I just couldn't afford her. Maybe another time...
Now you need to wear your Brunswick with Yvette in this dress. The two of you will look fantastic together.
Marguerite! Whatever her names turns out to be, she is the luckiest doll in the world to be getting a time traveling wardrobe!
Adelaide, love the dress, love the red silk fabric, it is beautiful ❤
😻Beautiful dress 😻 I love that silk😻. my daughter has two American girl dolls and I bought a book with historical costume patterns for them. So far I have only made a basic Regency outfit to try out the patterns but they are cute.
as someone who also makes historical doll clothes, this is great! I am here for all of your content though :)c
Yay!! Congrats on both the beautiful dress and your beautiful new Evette! She is absolutely stunning in every outfit.
Yay! Dolly content!!!
I was going to sugget Hattie, but Margeurite is lovely too.
I kinda love the idea that you wrapped your present to yourself lol
Always here for the doll content! 😍 I got Evette recently (to model historical gowns) and thought about naming her Cora, but Evette was already too stuck in my head lol. I do think Cora suits her though!
Love the doll dresses and would love to see more!
I feel like doll dresses would be a good trial for a decade one haven't made a dress for before😊 say hi to dora and lion❤ happy new year ❤
I like the doll content as I am self learning how to sew and doll clothes are low risk for cost.
Love it. Don't know if you renamed her already but I suggest Christina, since she was a Christmas present!
Fun episode, I loved it. She looks like a Charlotte Louise to me. Thanks for a fun time. ❤
I would love more doll content if it gets me more videos. Also, I would send them to my mom. She would love it!
This is great fun. It turned out great!
I’m going to have to check Etsy for Barbie patterns!
The gown is gorgeous. Silk was extra but the best type of extra. Happy New Year!
Georgiana, or Katherine are my votes!
What a gorgeous result!
Also I love the name Charlotte for your doll!
I love sara-louise’s new costume.❤
Lol, is that the name you've given her?
Such fun!
Felicity...
beautiful dress...
I think the name Charlotte was already picked for her when you did the Charlotte pattern. Just meant to be. I like the doll sewing. I think if anyone wanted to try and make one of these fancy dresses but was hesitant they could try out some skills on a doll dress.
It’s beautiful! I vote for Adeline, my grandmother’s middle name, born in 1907.
Love it!!♥️
The top 10 most common girl names from the 1830s (that's you favourite time period, right?) are Mary, Elizabeth, Ann, Catherine, Margaret, Sarah, Jane, Rose, Emily, and Laura.
Please do more doll videos. I have Evette too. Yours is beautiful
I like Yvette or Evette…it is definitely french and means yew or living one. I don’t think it sounds too modern either…❤
She is gorgeous! I'd never known about American Girl before your videos, I watch because I
Thank you! I actually found all the fabrics for that dress at Joann's, back in 2021. I think that deer was kind of their mascot that year.
im pinching this from Abby Cox, Bernadette Banner, Nicole Rudolph and co, but Catherine de Medici would be suitable as thay have a joke that she was a time traveller (see Abbys 'History of the Corset' video)
Maybe Evette has a different name for all of her identities when she goes time traveling?
Or maybe she's a Time Lord and has a name that starts with The.
Rhiannon, Gwen, Carys, Bronwyn all good Welsh names
Katherine, Cosette (from Les Mis) or Victoria would be my name suggestions
Idk how you don’t order more to have a matching dress but it’s sooo pretty! I think Beth would cover you from Tudor to 1900. She would look cute in ruff❤❤❤
Gorgeous gown and gorgeous doll! Could you do a pleated fichu? I really like the name Sophronia, if you're renaming her.
So pretty, I like the name Daisy. :)
Man, Rebecca, there are a lot of Rebeccas that follow you!
Lol right? I was amused by that!
Beautiful, wonderful, what fun. I do not know the name of the white piece that you have around her neck. The closed caption prints "fishy look" or "fishy". I don't think so. Please educate me! Clare comes to mind for a suggested name. 🤗
Fichu, I think it is spelled. It is probably French originally.
@@lenabreijer1311 Thank you for letting me know. Sounds pretty. Much better than fishy! 😁
Yep, like Lena said, it's spelled Fichu
Her outfit is so cute!!! Name suggestion: Mairghread (Pronounced MARE-gred)
What about something like Eveline or Florence that was "popular" then but is still cool now?
Wonderfully done. I wonder, did the Evette doll come with any underwear? I noticed that in the descriptions for the World By Us dolls on the American Girl website, there is no mention of underwear, while descriptions of most other dolls do mention underwear.
Thanks! And yep, she just comes with modern underpants.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Ah, makes sense.
