    I've been playing for 23 years now and this little lesson and song you wrote up here helped me learn more technique in 30-45 min of playing than most of the other garbage crammed into my head for the last 20-odd years. Thank you sir, keep up the good work!

    Ohh.... you know, I QUIT playing guitar for 18 years because a guy told me if I "...couldn't even hit the strings" while playing rhythm, I "had BAD problems." But I could/can play most of Tony's solos - not up to speed yet, but clean and dead on the metronome. SHOOT!!! Everybody else seemed to get this so easily - not me! Thanks, man!

    Is it important to touch the strings with your pinky to locate your position? I always felt like I was cheating myself by doing that, and they may not be the correct perspective.

    Ben is the Main !! I wish he played a Gibson or a Martin though. He’s totally killer on what ever... I just never see him with anything but Taylor’s ?? Hell maybe they sponsor him ?? They def should.

    Thanks Ben - This is helpful. Is the key to building proficiency going slow with accuracy? Do you recommend looking at the right hand when beginning this exercise? Thanks!

  • @rkbarry
    @rkbarry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Excellent! I enjoyed this. I have a recommendation for improvement.
    For picking hand accuracy, you seem to be doing two particular things that you don’t mention or address in any way. When playing chords with single notes intermingled, you ‘float’ your hand - your arm grounded somewhere you also don’t tell. When you pick *more* than one individual note intermixed with chords you appear to briefly ‘touch down’ onto the flat-top with your pinky. The mechanics of that, it seems to me, should be the focus of this vid.

      I agree Richard. I saw what you saw. Would love to learn that. Can you help us out Banjo Ben.

  • @AaronWanamaker91

    Due to having left hemi-plegia, I have to play my guitair left-handed. But, I have trouble gripping the picks. So, I've been trying to use banjo picks instead, but, still have trouble. I think it's due to how my fingures bend. I'm wondering if there is some way to fix this. If a specific fingure would help or something. I love the country style though. If I can learn how to play my guitair well enough, I d like to buy a harmonica holder, so I can play botb, together.

    So you are trying to pick the strings by feel and practice not by sight, is that right? It's a fun exercise

    • @BanjoBen
      @BanjoBen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, precisely. It won't take long if you stay after it.

      @@BanjoBen I have been practicing for a week and now I am playing songs without even looking at my right hand. I will still get it wrong but it has given me the confidence to try and stick with it so thank you again plus I need to go to your website to find out how to do the hammer ons. 😁

    Wondering if the player should practice while looking at or away from the strings or at the strings while they're being played....?

    • @BanjoBen

    Do you not anchor your pinky on the fretboard when picking? Interesting..

    • @BanjoBen
      @BanjoBen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, for sure, and there are incredible players that do it either way. Main thing is to remove anything that creates tension.
