You can clearly see how Maria Sharapova is a natural artist on the court, keeping control of a point to the very end, even when she ends up losing it on her very own error. No doubt Caroline Wozniacki, so nimble on her feet and an indefatigable retriever, deserves this match. She stayed in the long demanding rallies shot for shot and her level of play proved equal to Maria's, and often superior enough to justify her win, with quite a few truly sensational shots along the way. On one of those remarkable points, from 1:50:45 to 1:51:34 - which has to be seen - Caroline raises her arms in triumph towards the crowd calling on the fans to show their admiration over her spectacular save and applaud. The whole stadium rises in exuberant unison.
Both champions are practically the same age, both beautiful and supremely healthy-looking, with marvelous long legs and wide, strong shoulders - the perfection of youth. Wozniacki, the charming, unpretentious but powerful hitter versus Sharapova, the cool, imperious, icy tsarina, who projects an air of dominance as if the incontestable ruler of the court. Nonetheless, one could argue that Wozniacki has a definite edge in running and mobility, and she needed it badly in this match, with Maria hitting corner after corner with her trademark engineering precision. Wozniacki’s remarkable endurance saved her in those long exhausting exchanges. No wonder, she was reaping the benefits of her training for the NY marathon. It sure paid off in this match.
They are both wearing their Jesus cross necklaces. Who was going to claim the full spiritual support from above? They're both such talented players that it surely must be a pretty hard choice, but Caroline's cross looked heavier and more substantial than Maria's, and that may probably have tilted the final decision. What a shame that such extraordinary players have retired so young, and, by some amazing coincidence, at the same time, earlier this year. But, uncannily, their timing to quit competing turned out to be miraculous, considering the sudden eruption of the Covid-19 epidemic and the serious disruption that it threatens to inject into the WTA calendar. When will the tournaments schedule resume as usual, bringing in the immense crowds required to support the game? How will the rank-and-file players, so needed in the first few rounds to make up a full-scale tournament, make a living? At least both Sharapova and Wozniacki have achieved fame and financial security. It's still sad that we are never going to see them again in a match of such exciting quality as this one. At least we now have this classic on TH-cam for future reruns when we feel sorry about having lost those two superb players for good, while waiting for the up-and-coming generation to refill the top rank.

If someone asking you "what is the gamestyle of Wozniacki?" - - look at 1.50.35 - - this shot will tell you everything about her game.
And honestly not aggressive enough to win more grand slams. I wish she could have been more aggressive in her game, just like kerber and halep did. I was so gutted when halep lost that final against her but at least she finally won a grand slam title of her own.
