Honestly it's kinda sad that you stopped playing your pieces for your teacher. Makes me realize how lucky I am to have a teacher who encouraged my composition from the very start. Glad you didn't stop composing - I think teachers should allow your creativity to flourish and not limit it. My favorites were the short performance piece and the poeme - the harmonies in the poeme are really interesting.
Poeme No.1, It has a melancholic essence touch that is very interesting, I also found it very successful to use low octaves, it gives more strength to the phrases. Overall very interesting.
I say well done! I also appreciate the cataloguing of your stages of development through some of your videos, Rachmanjohn. This is, put simply, the honesty of an artist in exposing formative attempts, and thus himself. It makes me appreciate the more recent, and mature, compositions.
My favorite was the transformation of pegasus, tantalizing and i think its worth going back to that one. also can u do some vids on why u dont like brahms, like stuff on his early sonatas, symphonies, violin stuff, and later piano stuff. i really want to get your critique on his music, only because i like brahms myself and i enjoy the simpish quality that pervades
I want to collapse when I see those extreme sharpies hahah 😭. I am quite new to composing almost baroque-like piano compositions so yes, I am extremely afraid of those key signatures. Anyways great piece you composed!
Your poor piano teacher… I can totally understand where he was coming from… the parallel octaves, the lack of respect for classical forms, and zero attention to harmony. It would’ve horrified me too if I was your teacher.
Lovely! I really love these pieces. You should become a famous composer! Please keep composing! I also like the paragraphs you wrote about them. You're great! I hope you get better soon. I wrote more pieces now as I'm 15 or before when I was 12 or 13 years old.
@@pokmanl9810 back then, no idea, but nowadays (at 19) I'd say if one wants a better concept of overall cohesion and tonal structure they should use the right keys with respect to the tonic when they modulate.

Yeah, he ended up having a heart transplant, so I suppose Karma is real.
Seriously, though, thankyou. I'm glad you enjoyed!

And np! They're really solid compositions at 14
That’s really relatable. My first teacher actively told me to stop composing. 🤷♂️
I think it's a good starting point.
You're too kind, my friend! Which was your favourite?

Sure thing! I think I'll make a dedicated video breaking down my tastes on music soon.
i will return to the grand manner in 10 months or so

After watching these as an aspiring (not very good) composer, I just have one question.
Why C# Major/ A# Minor? Just why? When Db is just there -_-

@@RachManJohn That’s a good point, although whoever ends up trying to play that piece will really hate you for the C# major
