Got to catch this tour and LOVE the live performance of this old tune.. Always come back to it-- and to throw in my opinion I think you can't imagine was his PEAK album.. Top notch beats by Ant and all nothing but fire spitting from Sluggo!
Been listening to Atmosphere for the past few weeks non stop and I can never get enough of them. This is my favourite song by them and after following what a few commenters said about the hook being from a freestyle Eyedea did I searched up and found them performing this song together at Cactus club 2001. I think the whole hook is "Maybe if you look my way, you would no longer be shook by grey skies close your eyes and take my hand and let me lead you to the sacred land."
TheElevatr I can legitimately say that I am so blessed to have found out about Atmosphere, I admit I heard of him from the Saints Row IV game where he had a song on it called "Until The Nipple's Gone", after that I listened to his stuff and have just loved every track, the whole Rhymesayers record label are full with epic talent. Atmosphere, Eyedea (Sadly passed away, rest in peace man), Aesop Rock, Brother Ali etc. Major props for them releasing real stuff.
GaminOnYa dude, i love this Ant character. I saw some interviews with him and he seems like the most laid back, funny, humble human beings ever. I love his tracks for Atmosphere. The first time i saw Atmosphore was in Belgium, about 13-14 years ago. the DJ was wearing a skimask. I suppose it was him :)
+GaminOnYa they're both such cool dudes. met em back in like '09 during the When Life Gives You Lemons tour, i was the 8th person in line, and it was cold snowing outside. Slug came out about an hr before the show started and said "I appreciate you all coming out early, and I figured if you gotta stand out here in the snow, I might as well join you." and proceeded to hand out posters, give autographs, and take pics with everyone out there. So fuckin humble.
+Emerson L Two coolest guys in the game, no doubt. I'm jealous that you went to the Lemons Tour. I do have to admit that the North of Hell tour was pretty damn dope though
I feel the same way. Like how is it fair of people to want to hold the man back from progressing in his own life and career just because we want it how we think it should be.
When I was younger I use to bash on his new suff...I never understood that time changes a human being therefore changing their music style and beliefs. Change is good, especially with music. Anyone hating on Slug's progression and change is merely ignorant and does not understand nor respect the way an artists continuously transforms in his or her life. You dont want to read the same book over and over again do you? It's the same concept...
It's so dope. I never noticed that, but I also just realized "The Number One" is about all these magical times when he was young with girls and friends - as opposed to his newer song "The Number None" about that girl&friend that hurt him when he was around that same age.
@Qwalt1 They still are Rhymesayers, but Rhymesayers signed a distribution deal with Warner. Basically all that means is you can find their albums in major stores. Nothing more, nothing less.
Slug Is Def In My Top 10 Lyricists. N Ants Badass.Sick Beats. He Kinda Reminds Me Of Silent Bob On That One Part When Hes Smokin N Movin To The Beat Hahahahahahaha
dang.. i found this song on the headshot album (turns out i did have).. it sounds soooo much better live... slug has changed his style so much since the headshots album.. keeps gettin better!
@Qwalt1 all that industry talk aside. I can't believe you said "that's why their new shit blows". I have to strongly disagree. It is different from their older stuff but it's grown on me and has a more developed perspective in the lyrics and production. Plus, as Slug & Ant said, they were trying to make a record without using too many samples. To me, they're the purest outfit in hip-hop. They do it right.
I'm doing my best to learn this track by ear, and it is a BITCH. Does anybody know if this is an original score, or simply Ant's brilliance? I did discover that it is in E Flat Minor, and I do have the melody down sorta. I fell in love with this song, and would enjoy any info that anybody has
@DKTHaMASKEDNINJA Not ALL women are mean. : P I also doubt he's a saint. lol Did you forget this: "I sleep next to women that I don't deserve. They like to hurt my pride while I work their nerves." =]
why not? personally compared to most music these days, hype music or whatever you call it, this is the better rap or hip hop out there. but music is too bias to say whose good and not good
why does everyone have to break down what they think the meaning behind someone else's art is. that's fine for the actual artist to do so but for everyone else it should be left to the interpreter.
+Garrett Maruyama did you read the last sentence I wrote I said left to the interpretor that's the audience. my point was people telling others what it means which is why I did not share what it means to me.
+Joanne S I think it's interesting when different people share their views on what the meaning could be. Ofcourse it's wrong to enforce your opinion on anyone like "Hey, this is the truth & that is not". Because in a certain way everyone's right, we all see it through our own eyes, influenced by our own experiences.
+DemonicSliceOfPizza I understand what your saying then people should start there opinions with what I think this song means or what this song means to me is yadayadayada but I still say you should think for yourself and not be tainted by the views of others.
Spot on. It's a personal thing. There are no right or wrongs. I mean, there are no other people in your skull while your listening, are there? No. Just you and the message. Hell, this song means different things to me at different times. Trying to nail down a certain message and excluding all other explanations is defeating the point of the art. It's for the individual, it's just for you. That's what MAKES it special.
And Eyedea freestyled the chorus for this song when they were performing it together once, Slug liked it and put it in the song.
"I know she's been put through hell, man I can feel it. I know she's touched heaven as well, tryna steal it."
A live band covering hip-hop beats is so fucking amazing. I need more of this.
Got to catch this tour and LOVE the live performance of this old tune.. Always come back to it-- and to throw in my opinion I think you can't imagine was his PEAK album.. Top notch beats by Ant and all nothing but fire spitting from Sluggo!

GaminOnYa I met Ant too like 5 years ago. He was super cool. He was like thanks for even giving a shit about us.

Ugh This song has so many damn memories. Thank you Sluggo. :]

art is made to be interpreted by the audience. there is no correct or incorrect answer
