Love it. You will too! I just bought a new 2024 Outback -- about $10k less than a Forester. Think I just hit 100 miles on it. Retired and only go to the Dr's office, supermarket and back home. It will outlast me. Got the base model and only added the accessories I wanted from Amazon or eBay (genuine Subaru parts but much less than at dealer).
2001, she's not even old enough to get into trouble but I'm surprised Sam either has missive muscle or them lug bolts were lose. Thank you Sam for posting and yes we need more videos please.
Love how Lena is by your side throughout the whole job. Glad you could get the car back on the road, we need more of them still running and giving good service. Thanks for the upload Sam, take care.
Nice job on the brakes and the lights. I would highly recommend a full fluid change next. These are great winter & camping cars as long as you take care of them.
My son-in-law had that generation Outback. It served him well. He now drives a Legacy. My daughter has a '17 Outback, my granddaughter has a '19 Crosstrek, and I have a '20 Outback. We're a Subie family. 😀 Just be aware that your model year was among the years that Subaru was having head gasket issues. I'd be willing to guess that over 200k, they have probably been replaced in your car.
Great car! Main things to look for on those are torn CV axle boots, exhaust leaks, head gaskets, automatic transmissions. It's kind of hit or miss on all of those things! That being said, my mother has been driving Subaru Outbacks since 1994 and I liked this body style.
You won’t believe it when I tell you I was just checking for a video of yours when a message from TH-cam popped up. Good job, Sam. You made it look simple, but I bet it wasn’t. Thanks for showing. 😉👋🏻
Great video, I have fond memories of tapes at the beginning of my driving life. When I got myself a CD autochanger it seemed like science fiction. I used to love working on my cars, I felt quite nostalgic watching you work with such diligence on an older car. Thanks for sharing
Pretty sure the Subaru's that year had the boxer motor where they were known to blow head gaskets, so might want to keep an eye on antifreeze leaks or antifreeze consumption or oil in the antifreeze. They were good cars overall but they did have that notorious head gasket problem. But for $300 bucks, wow good buy Sammy.
Youre right. Too bad they didn't check the cylinder head gaskets for oil leaks when the car was lifted off the ground. Those engines, I have a 2009 Forester, primarily leak oil from the bottom of those gaskets. On my car you see the oil starting to seep from them on the bottom where the cylinder head meets the block. I think the bigger issue they face now are the bearings and steering components. My 09 sat for over a year, needed all new bearings, lower control arms, sway bar bushings, end links and the preventative timing belt change, just to get up and running reliably and safely. All easy fixes.
Those are great cars - Rust head gaskets and timing belts seem to be the only things that kill them. When ever I saw one at the JY I would snag the rubber mat out of the rear for laying on in the door yard.
Changing the oil, oil filter, air filter and gasoline filter would not be a bad idea too, Sam! And check the gear/transmission and every differential oil if possible too. Is the brake fluid still ok? Tom 😎
Hola Samantha !
A great find and worthy of your attention. We are on our 3rd Outback, and that's what we drive, We live at 7,000 fwet in the San Bernadino nat forest at Big Bear Lake, Ca. Have fun! Onward!
Looks good that Subaru, I love them we bought one for 1,700 rode it 17 years as work car was wagon it had almost two hundred thousand one wonder and old man wreaked I tipped it upside down in creek . Best during car with power .
That particular year, they are known to blow head gaskets at around. 200,000 and it’s motor out to change them, it’s a fault with the kind of gaskets Subaru used, but they never admitted to it, it goes right up to the 2010 models.
Nice car…happy for you. I like your bravery and desire to dig into the mechanicals. That timing belt system would good to check. Lots of moving parts and the potential for valve collisions risks. My best to you chum!
You should consider changing the timing belt because if that breaks that kind of engine will have the pistons banging into the valves and ruin the engine. I had an Impreza and that is exactly what happened to mine.
Lucky on that transmission. I've had vehicles in the past that sit about that long and wouldn't move because the valves in the transmission became stuck in place over time. I'd get another from the salvage yard and same thing with it. Of course they might have improved the quality of fluids nowadays that won't get sticky gummy in tight places.
I've certainly seen rustier cars that's for sure. I decided to let go of a Ford at around the 15 year mark because the floor and front subframe had begun to move on to the afterlife and the thing just wasn't safe anymore. Michigan winters and salt. blah. Anyways, I've always liked these late 90's and 2000's subarus. Very smartly styled and tons of character. For a while I lusted after the mid-late 2000's Legacy spec.B.
Love to see you get hands on , not many young girls like to get their hands dirty these days and try something different, keep it up. Enjoy watching ALL your videos, bet parents are proud of you . You never seem to get upset or hot under the collar, Keep smiling ( its a cute one ) and keep the videos coming.

Hi Sam I’m from southern West Virginia and I just want you to no I’m inprest on how you work on your job and how you can work on your own car you go girl
Unless you are 100% sure that nothing will prevent the car from being moved later never ever park it partly in the doorway preventing the garage door from being closed overnight.
Why do you want to know ? In case it has anything to do with my comment, from personal experience, never block your garage door from being able to be closed overnight and that means don't leave anything in the way that might prevent he door from closing like an immovable car on ramps. Sometimes this might take a little planning. Like never assume a car repair will be easy sailing.
Awesome, nothing like fixing up something and it runs and sounds great. Sam keep up what doing you are one awesome young lady.

“Has been sit there for 2 years” grass is mowed under it and not one bird shit on it 🤣🤣🤣
seems kinda sus, but sam is a babe so ill let it slide.
Considering the rust on the rotors and missing battery it’s not a wild claim.
Good job Sam as always keep them vids a coming............you take care.
Lena is supervising. ❤ I'm amazed it started right up like that after 2 years!
Thank goodness for your Dad!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing 👍
Even for scrap it would get you over $300. It runs so looks like a great deal.
I love how you took the time to clean the battery tray...You're my kind of gal.

Brilliant video, Sam. It's always worth changing the fluids & filters on a new to you car along with coolant to make it last that little bit longer
Thank you Samantha. Missing ya video's Pleased you made this one for me to watch. love ya.

I replaced the timing belt and haven't had any issues with the head gasket although oil is seeping out from somewhere...
@@samanthaweber6932 With the salt on the roads that oil leak might actually increase the usable lifetime of the vehicle.
I see those Outbacks here in NE Texas that people have lifted enough to put good all terrain tires on and they actually look cool.

Nice job.
Always wear a mask when linishing off rust.
You do a great job, prob too much de rusting of rotors, you onl need to clean the mating surfaces
Sam, you are such an inspiration. Keep it up!

Cool, Sam! $300? Wow. Incredible deal.
Great find! Have fun with it.

Hope yours does too, cheers.

You can tell it is good by the wood grain.
Please ware breathing protection when sanding rusty brake parts
Nice car . Enjoy you and your dad working together .
Rust converter Sam for the dust plates 💥💥🍻🍔🐿️🛠️
I always wear a mask if I'm grinding or air gunning off anything to do with brakes, you never know if they had asbestos brake pads on there.
Wow Sam! You just put all those "will it run" channels to shame 🎉great job!!
Check out the detail Geek
Good afternoon from keavy Kentucky I like your TH-cam video I hope you doing a good job on the video 🎉🎉🎉🎉
in my area those are known as lezmobiles
Eric's Subaru Service in Montana approves of your effort.
Wilburs may Have A Good Spindle!
300 bucks, that covers the tyres and rims, the rest of the car is a bonus.
Bracket should have come off with the rotor since the threads are on the bracket
Nice find Mate and well done fixing it,👌 nothing worse than that feeling when a bolt snaps,🤢
Yes take off
Great work!
GOOD JOB!

First it is a manual. Second you limited alleged experience is not the expectation.
@@Failure_Is_An_Option Well I wish I could be as smart as you!
First thing you should have done before installing the battery is to have removed the bumper stickers.
I need to find a deal like that !
Holy crap, that's kind of a smokin deal.
Subaru is the best
Nice pick up. I didn’t see you check all the engine fluids before you started it, I can only hope you did. Seems like a great buy 👍
dont worry I did
Awsome Sam ❤
Score👍🏽
Having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that car is over 20 years old..
it looks pretty good considering its a rust belt car, good score.
WOW! You made out good on that deal!
my '68 caddilac had power seats, but back then only the rich were soft.
for $300 it's a very good deal

I loved my old 4wd subaru wagon .. but the automatic transmission was garbage
hi great vid
I’m on my third Subaru second outback They are the best on the market today
She's just broke in! 1:46 lol
Oh, and get rid of that 'Bernie' booster sticker. 6:20 I mean, unless you're into communism, of course! lol
Make sure this car does not have an interference engine. A timing belt breaks and the engine becomes toast, valve damage etc.
I replaced the timing belt 👍
@@samanthaweber6932 Great!!!!
Subaru………..❤
Have an '07 Nissan frontier XE 4 cylinder 5 speed manual 2WD for sale. In CT, near Pawling. Good shape, 104k miles, solid frame. 😊
My 2003 Frontier was sitting 4 years and all it needed to get back on the road was a new battery.

Can't beat getting a running car for less than scrap value.
If there is no paper work , change the timing belt.. it will last another 100,000 miles or until it rust apart
I did!
How did your dad remove that bolt
Hopefully you checked the oil before you started it.
That's a nice car, Sam! Does it have timing belts? If it does, worth checking or replacing.
It does have a timing belt over the winter I paid a mechanic to replace that as well as a few other big ticket items
