Your message at the end about people being careful / not really needing to update their phones during a pandemic felt genuine and heartfelt. You didn't have to do it, but by doing so I have so much more respect for the verge staff and team. We all don't need to get the latest and greatest, especially now. I like how you highlight that fact.
This review was stellar all around! The cinematography and information delivered was amazing. You are always one of my top choices when new tech arrives.
The information aspect could've been better imo but I actually found myself loving how the end was concluded and agree with the sentiment of not spending money for a phone purchase in the middle of the pandemic.
It's an easy thing to say when you don't have any skin in the game, The Verge won't lose any money if Apple sells less iPhones.
@@NickSiekierski still they could have stopped where everyone else does, while they just suggest you to think about your priorities. I find it great. It also means that the phone isn't that exceptional, especially for its price.

3:37 Instagram is honestly pissing me off in general. One of the most influential, money generating apps and to this date they haven't released a proper version for iPads. Seriously how hard can it be...

It’s all coded in react native too. Creating an app that scales is fairly easy to integrate from the start
Maybe the compression that instagram uses on images would start to show at the bigger, iPad-compatible sizes.....

Great review, you really explained the bells and whistles on the new phones, but your last reflections on the need for a new phone in these uncertain times gave me the push I needed to skip the upgrade and start with 11 pro max, especially since I’m not into photography.
Love your review and love your verdict at the end about if it is the right time to buy a new phone or not, I needed that question badly 👌🏻

I am happy Nilay made the points about the features and the pandemic. Everybody is wifi-bound right now and with less traveling, people take less photos.
Got mine today on launch day, switched from att to verizon last night as well and honestly couldn't be happier. Saving 25% on my phone bill while getting the best 5g on the market. On top of that, every phone that swapped got a $250 credit so our bill is technically free for like the next 8-10 months. Also, traded in my iphone X for $550 so essentially got my 12 pro for $200. Definitely worth the upgrade and loving mine so far!

I hope he’s doing the HomePod mini review. His OG review convinced me to get HomePod, even after he pointed out that Siri was the biggest weak point.
I miss the days of the iphone 1, up until the iphone 5, when each release was exciting and a massive improvement over the last.
The problem is we've hit a time in smartphone tech where we're at incremental gains and improvements. All the products coming out are so polished. You're not really going to get anything massive unless it's gimicky.

Well they don’t innovate now they did back then now they just following what everyone does after 2 years they do that and they give it a fancier name and change it a little bit and sell it it was technology company back then and it’s only job was to innovate now it’s a fashion brand that has technology in it
What would you do differently to make the iPhone 12 exciting?
Really we’re way beyond that at this point at the rate of technology advancing and how good phones are. Apple isn’t expecting somebody with an iPhone 11 to get an iPhone 12. They’re expecting to get somebody with a 6s or 7 Plus or many of these Pre iPhone X phones to see these and want to upgrade. Those are massive leaps and changes for a lot of people. Because in the end it’s all about consumers upgrading. Not the very very small group that get the new phone year to year.

This was a treat to watch on a big iPhone OLED and the stereo speakers. When you guys did the sounds bouncing from left to right it felt like surround sound. Amazing production and what an amazing new iPhone! That pacific blue looks incredible. I love it!!!

Woah, all those photos look noticeably better, and I’m watching this video in 4k on my 65” LG C9. My iPhone X is finally starting to feel slow so I’m going to upgrade to the Max and I absolutely cannot wait to see what the new sensor is capable of.

@@theharesbreath this has 2 battery swaps over the years. It’s in need of a new one again but I think I can hold this battery a bit more time. It’s at 76% and has peak capacity. Doing around 2:35 screen on time with iOS 14.1
@@rodrigo4379 that's not terrible. Power to you for keeping it going man. I know no phone I've had has or will ever make it that far (android side of things). I do have an old HTC from 2014 but it's pretty unusable haha

@@Edwin.X because the rumors were right regarding the iPhone 12, specifically the integration of mag safe and a non 120hz screen, the only thing the leaks got wrong were the new airpods, so given that the next iPhone will most likely have that higher refresh rate but also move to usb-c I think the wait would be worth it.

update- i got it and it’s a truly magnificent phone. the shiny sides do collect a lot of fingerprints, as expected, but it’s absolutely stunning. the matt back really seals the deal! i really adore the contrast between the shiny camera bump and matt back ✊🏻 also may i just add that the camera quality is immaculate!! low light pictures have never looked so good

@@TuftyyFN it’s rly good. I think it’s up to 9 hours straight on average brightness. Depends if you play games or just watch TH-cam/anything else. If you play a lot of games, it will take up more battery. If you’re just using for basic lifestyle it’s up to 9 hours. Hope this helps

Having kids is exactly why I explain to my wife it’s important to always have the best available camera. She doesn’t keep up (iPhone 8) but always mentions how good pictures and videos I get of our son look.
iPhone 8 is still good enough dude , no need to buy iPhone 12 if she doesn't want it.
Why upgrade the iPhone when you can buy yet another pair of shoes that match the purse?..... I am not talking about this purse! that one! come on! Plus you already got the good pictures! Duh!
Great honest review! The end was very sobering with all the hype around this phone. Personally, until they put a fingerprint sensor under the display or on the power button I'll hang on to my 6S Plus.
I preferred face id than fingerprint scanner under display especially the screen is off dont know where the sensor is

The Lidar sensor makes the measuring app 10x better and more accurate. Before the measuring app was nearly useless. Now i use it to measure siding and windows at my job. Worth the price of the upgrade just with that feature.
