It's worth checking it out with subtitles, the lyrics are clear and brutal. Saiki wrote the lyrics for this one after she got seriously pissed off buy certain peoples behaviour.
My favorite band for six years now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. They will occasionally use a short backing track of keyboard just for effect, an extra vocal track for a few bars to fill in added harmonies, or an orchestral intro but yeah - they are a REAL band and I've seen them live three times and can tell you that you don't that's DON"T want to miss an opportunity to see them. Cheers!
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 My wife and I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. We were in bliss going through very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄) Note : This song (including the hot Bass-Guitar duel) was played at 2023 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, too. The title of this song is interesting. As you pointed out it is not just "Hate" but "Hate?", with question mark. The lyric is a little bit contradictory or ambivalent. If the girl hates the guy so intensely, why she hanged around with him so long enough to know his daily behavior (10 minutes of limp gymnastics 🤣 etc.) Is she giving him the last chance to restore their relationship? That is the point I talked with my wife on my way home.
From Billboard dot com interview published on 10/7/2022: SAIKI: When I wrote the words to that song, I was really pissed off at the kind of person who cheats on their partner. [Laughs] That was the emotional state that I used when I wrote “HATE?” Kobato: You wanted to use the expression “I hate you,” po. SAIKI: Yeah. It feels good rolling off the tongue, so I wanted to have it repeated through the song. When I write lyrics, I focus on how the words feel to sing. [Laughs] MISA: Kobato’s lyrics are intellectual, or a little philosophical, but SAIKI’s lyrics are emotional and really direct, which is great.
I usually play a new Band-Maid MV through and then watch it a second time with the lyrics on. Though this one was written by Saiki, Miku usually writes their lyrics and they are many-layered and meaningful with lots of plays on Japanese and English and with many references to a lot of Japanese culture.
Great point on the costumes. I hope the band manages to attract a bigger female fan base because of the fact they are leaning on talent rather than sex appeal.
Western female listeners seem to overwhelmingly like the Maids' battle gear; in one way it's just a smart move catering to the Princesses in the audience, which just happened to surprisingly inspire some discussions about fashion amongst grizzled old rock dudes 🤔😄
Well said about the costumes. For some reason any new female musicians, usually guitarists, from the US, suddenly can't find any clothes to wear and decide to appear in their underwear- tacky. Then they get lots of publicity about and album that has no original songs on it and is full of quest appearances providing all the musical content. Classic Rock magazine is one of the main culprits for promoting this kind of rubbish and is still doing it.
Generally Band Maid lyrics haven't mattered to me 🤷🏻♂ but this one's kinda fun 🎭 and really does link to the tone of the music ✅ though yeah, they do look remarkably happy being HATE?ful 😊😊😊😊😊
Such a great live-band! It was nearly as the juxtaposition that was intended nearly worked too well, which nearly made the record company drop them in 2015. Glad that oversea music-lovers got "Thrilled" and kept them going. "Blooming" is one of the songs in structure and composition is hard for them to do live. It sounds great, don't get me wrong, but I like the studio version better. So... official video? I also saw somebody mentioning Lovebites. Funfact: 3 members attended this show. Both drummers are good friends and "noodle-buddies": out eating now and then. "Set the world on fire", "Solider Stand Solitarily" etc.. Also a fantastic live-band, so can't go wrong there!
I know more than 20 female bands from Japan included BAND MAID who had the same musicianship than her. Japan female metal scene is no joke ( BABYMETAL isn't included in my list because they're IDOLS with a metal band in back " not always Japan band").
In an interview when their EP "Unleash" was released, SAIKI said, "I felt that "Hate?" Is an aggressive song called "The Band-Maid" from the demo stage, and when I got a demonstration, it was sometimes simple (laughs). , The frustration was expressed in the lyrics. Also, I just wanted to put a phrase "I hate you". At the time, LISA, an artist close to her, was in the spotlight due to her husband's adultery scandal. Of course she didn't say clearly, but told that it was pointing to the cheating husband.
Why the ?... It's simply because the Japanese word for " huh ?" looks and sounds similar to hate. (So I have read) It's Band Maid's playful side coming out as it often does.😁🤯
These girls are the real deal brother. It will be tough to find a better live band. To much talent here. Definitely check out the lyrics. Saiki is truly pissed at this guy that hurt her friend. She completely guts him... Fn funny.
Band-Made is a good band, but if you want to hear "fire" metal, listen to “LOVEBITES “. You'll be amazed. 「Set the world on fire」「Judgement day」「Soldier Stands Solitarily」live so so good!

Brutal and funny lyrics. "10 minutes of limp gymnastics". Interpret that!
The best hard rock band in the world!!! Thanks for your reaction.

Err mate, the limp gymnastics aren't his daily workout...
They absolutely one of the greatest hard rock bands around. PS...the lyrics are worth to check out for this song.
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 another great "conversation " between MISA and Kanami. I love watching those 2 communicating with each other. 🤙🏽
Agree 100% on the closed caption lyrics. I prefer to focus on the musicianship rather than read lyrics.

The only thing about not using the subtitles is that you missed perhaps the best put down lyric of all time - " Ten minutes of limp gymnastics " !

Band Maid! 🍺😁🤘🏻🕊️

Band Maid sure is classy.
Just talent, and comradery.

IMHO the "sexiest" maid is the most covered up maid MISA the Barefoot Assassin. Also the most mysterious and scary!

Here's a guide to everything BAND-MAID: www.youtube.com/@Ohrenje. This song was written by Saiki, and is about someone who betrayed a friend of hers.

Best rock band on the planet. Watch NO GOD, or MORATORIUM live or any number of others. They're all good.

We are about the same age probably seen the same bands and they are incredible in person as good as any band out there my fav for 4 yrs and counting

Hate? Love! Thx, Face!
thers always time later to read the translation. Many people love opera but do not speak the language it is written in.
For this song it is worth putting on the lyrics. They are special.
