  • The World Health Organisation has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a global emergency - as the virus spread to a major city.
More than 1,600 people have died over the past year in the second deadliest Ebola outbreak in history.

THE EBOLA VIRUS/A SONG TO BE SUNG IN CHURCH
      All things dull and ugly,
      All creatures short and squat,
      All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.
      Each little snake that poisons,
      Each little wasp that stings,
      He made their brutish venom.

Many people don't seek treatment until it is too late, by then others in their family/neighbors are infected.
There is no cure, but with measures taken to keep their fever under control and help keep them hydrated some people are able to recover.

A couple problems are that early symptoms are mild and common to a myriad of common conditions. By the time symptoms are troubling, the patient has been virulent for several days. The converse is clinics being choked with sniffles and tummy aches, delaying the cotrol of actual vectors. Add to that an incubation of 10 days, to a month.

How many can afford treatment, though? Many Africans don't make more than $1000 (US Dollars) a year. A $100 hospital bill would be devastating for a family.

I work in Congo for 2.5 years during the time of Ebola in the North Kivu region. This time the epidermic is the biggest because it cannot be contained due to fighting. People spread rapidly and so is Ebola. Several health workers already died due to fighting and infection. This region borders with Uganda so it is safe to assume that it already exists in Uganda. Ebola also propagates by bats as hosts. People commonly eat and sell bats in the local market. Bat can fly very far.
