I haven't heard the song in decades and today, it just showed up on my Bluetooth radio while driving with my sweet wife. She'd never heard of the band and never heard the song...she was just completely amazed at how beautiful this piece of music is. My best friend who passed 8 years ago on Christmas Day turned me on to Heartsfield. We were both Chicago boys, so it made sense to know who they were. Stunning song. The harmonies and the instruments!

Heard this song on somebody's mix tape when I was in the Navy in the mid seventies. The only lyric I remembered was "Shine on gentle woman" and over the next 20 years I would occasionally try and find out who performed this song. Lo and behold then came the Internet! Very happy to have found this!

I saw Heartsfield live at least 10 times when they got a "2nd life" in the late 90s when a local St Louis record store owner reissued their first 3 albums I think on a label she started, Bedrock Records. She was famous locally for selling the KSHE Classics everyone wanted to get on CD but were out of print and hard to find. So she specifically started the label to get Gypsy's and Heartsfield's albums released on CD. In conjunction with that she basically got both bands to reform and booked them in shows together around StL.
So I was familiar with a few of Heartsfield's tunes from KSHE FM radio in the mid 70s but had never heard the full albums, and they were packed with gems. The concerts with Gypsy were incredible. Saw them at Mississippi Nights, Pops, The Old Rock House, and I'm sure a few more places multiple times. Great shows and so cool to get a second chance with them. Thanks to Sherri of my old favorite record store that I'm blanking on right now! Edit>>DISC CONNECTION!!

@@Legnerps I actually heard Shine On on an album rock fm station in Orlando in 1973. I Immediately bought the 1st album, then the next 2 when they came out. Told all my friends about them. Still have the LPs. Several years ago I bought them on cd from Perry Jordan (I think he was running the band site) and he threw in Georgia Flyer for me.

After Darius Rucker Changed my mind on what im supposed to like with hootie and wagon wheel Tracy Chapman opened me more. im 34 and Jamaican and Filipino and my best friends have been all colors and classes. im just happy i can appreciate this art now and hopefully pass on this band with my own bass playing, guitar playing, piercing and tatoos. Music and lyrics are universal and i love it :) At kerioke i sing this song Jimmy Johnson high cost of living and hank Williams. thank you :) i know my skin will never be accepted but my heart is willing hard working and family oriented. so when dirt road anthem and the new billy ray came out my heart skipped. why does race have to be the problem :( work ethic and respect and being about your word should be the only factor. I think you've just inadvertently coined a new phrase "New Billy". That would be a good name for a new movement of rock, funk, country, rockabilly music
all combined for and done by all people.

I'm a Glenview guy, GBS HS '77. This group does bring back the memories. And, how 'bout those other midwest bands of the era: Captain Beyond, Head East, The Lamont Cranston Band, REO Speedwagon (before they sold out...), The Amboy Dukes (before Ted went over-the-top), and many more...

Also GBS alumni. Class of '73. This band was a big part of our life then. My older brother turned me onto them. Lots of great local bands. And especially my faves as a grammar school girl in the 60s. The Buckinghams, New Colony Six, Shadows of Knight, Cryan Shames. I still have my vinyl from the last band. Also The Flock and H. P. Lovecraft that my brother was more into. And Roger McGuinn is from here, too.

I worked a concert in Des Moines Fall 75 as security. Heartsfield opened for Wet Willie and Charlie Daniels. Id not heard of Heartsfield. They opened with this song. With all the members on acoustic guitars before peeling off to their respective instruments. WW and CDB never had a chance.

See her face in the river gentle,
Think about the times we've lost between the miles.
Sing a song to the nature of her ways
Tryin' to touch her hand but seein' that she can't be here.
    Shine on, gentle woman,
The day will come to pass, together we will stay.
    Sweet smile, away too long.
Hear me callin' you, don't know if you'll ever hear.
Yesterday, I kept the thought of you
Just a settin' there and knowin' that we could be one
Now today I know you're usin'
    The memories as borrowed things,
Won't you ever stay right next to me?
    Shine on, gentle woman,
The day will come to pass, together we will stay.
    Sweet smile, away too long.
Hear me callin' you, don't know if you'll ever hear.
    Shine on, gentle woman,
The day will come to pass, together we will stay.
    Sweet smile, away too long.
Hear me callin' you, don't know if you'll ever hear.
No, no, no no, no no

KSHE in St Louis played Heartsfield on a regular basis plus other groups not well known in other places. The music just seemed to show up here. Since you are from New York are you familiar with a band called the Good Rats? Their music made it to the Midwest also

    • @williambyassee6788
      @williambyassee6788 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@thomascrowley1019 Shelley Grafman had a lot to do with that. You would be surprised just how many of the great bands of the 70s and 80s got there start at KSHE. Plus Shelley wouldn't play just one song on their albums, He'd play the whole album. KSHE was the pioneer station for album-oriented rock. Thats why they've been around for 55 years.

      Daniel, hello
"Music Eyes" from their first album should have brought them to the mainstream. It was the only song I heard by them on Chicago radio back in "73. This song is awesome as well. They had a southern rock sound. They were regionally known in the Midwest, but they should have made it nationally.

I waited for this album to come out in about 1977ish. Back then u heard them on the radio and would wait for the Album release and bought my 78 albums at Mattingly's department store. ( Long before Walmart stores) albums we're about $3.00 each and most of the 45s were .50 to .75 for each 45. Seen this band live in 1979 at SIU Edwardsville campus in Illinois.

K-SHE is what I grew up listening to. But they play the same ol list from years ago over and over. I found a radio station called K-WOLF 101.7 out of Elsberry Mo and it's like listening to KSHE-95 about 40 years ago. This station ROCKS! They play the old real classic rock! Check them out! 101.7 on ur dial. Since I found this radio station K wolf all my presets on my radio in my car are set to this station! Lol. It's that good. And this is coming from an old rocker from the 70s. And I am one! Lol
