    Can't wait to see the scrambler. This bike series looks like a lot of fun. I'm still on my first bike, but you guys at Revzilla keep me drooling at potential upgrades!

      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're drooling all the same. What bike are you currently riding?
      The Street Scrambler video will be up shortly, but if you want something to whet your appetite while you wait, check out the written review on Common Tread: www.revzilla.com/common-tread/2017-triumph-scrambler-first-ride-motorcycle-review

      I'm on a clunky old 1987 Suzuki Savage. It's not the most versatile bike in the world, but it is the same bike my father used to pick me up from elementary school in. That old 650 holds a lot of sentimental value for me.
      I have learned a lot while restoring that old clunker, and I have had a lot of fun thumping around in the canyons around LA. I will always love my bike, but I have to admit your videos have me checking out the competition with every new review. You, Lemmy, and the rest of the crew over at Revzilla never cease to keep me coming back for more!

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there is something to be said about the sentimental attachment to a piece of machinery. I wish I had the old '78 Yamaha XS750 my dad used to have when I was a kid. A lot of people don't understand that as they lust after "newer and better", but I am right there with you. Hopefully you get many more miles out of her and maybe one day you'll be able to give her a companion to pal around with! Thanks for hanging out with us and coming back for more. Cheers!

    At last... someone on the same opinion about the Thruxton. I wish that Triumph will make again a 900-950 c.c. Thruxton.

  • @saddle8bag
    @saddle8bag 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Seems to me that one could spin that handlebar up and get ergos of the Street Twin with glamour of the Thruxton.
    As the owner of a Thruxton, I would also express my jealousy of the aftermarket for the baby Bonnies. Tons of cool stuff. The big ones...not so much.

    Question for the SPURGE!! How do you like the new signet X? How do you like the A-Stars Celer gloves even without externally stitched seams? I'd really like to know!?

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Blake! Let's start with the helmet...
      I have been an Arai user for the past eight years. Quite a few of my personal street helmets have been Arais with a few other brands thrown in for good measure. Before grabbing the new Signet X I had been using an RX-Q and prior to that a Quantum 2. When I tried on the new Quantum X it was way too round. I was skeptical about going with the Signet X because I never thought of my head as "long oval" rather I always considered myself "odd oval". However, the Signet X fit perfectly. I did bump up one size in the cheekpads for a more secure fit (I had to do this on my RX-Q as well, I buy an XL and then get the 25mm cheekpads to replace the 20mm ones that come standard in the XL).
      On the downside, it's still a noisy lid. If you've ever used an Arai in the past you'll know this about them. But the fit and finish is exactly what you would expect, vents worked well, and the new face shield removal system where the side pods just pop off is so much better than the old style. I can't tell you how many times I thought I was going to smash a side pod on my old lids just from swapping face shields, I am a huge fan of this new set up.
      As far as the Celer gloves are concerned, they didn't really work for me. I loved the Brera jacket, and the Copper jeans in this video I've been using non-stop for nearly two years, but these Alpinestars gloves didn't work for me. From my experience the Alpinestars gloves I have used are aimed at riders with skinnier hands an longer fingers. While I am normally a 2XL in Euro gloves, I had to bump to a 3XL in these Celers. At that point they fit my palm but were a hair too long in fingers.
      From a quality standpoint I think they were great. I chose them because I think they're a solid "do-anything" option for street riding short of getting you into an aggressive track option. I think if they fit with the size and shape of your hands you'll be pleased.
      I hope this helps to answer your questions. If there is anything specific I can answer for you, just let me know.

      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've pretty much shot every review with the visor up, when it's down it sounds like you're recording it in a bathroom. This is the first time we've had a issue with the audio, normally our audio clarity is spot on.

  • @dry509

    Was the lean forward tiring? Was the throttle not too sensitive and the transmission butter smooth or not?

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Throttle and transmission were great on this model. The lean forward will wear you out a bit quicker than the slightly more upright position of the Scrambler or the Street Twin. That being said, there are a lot of people that like the lower handlebar position, it really comes down to your personal preference.

  • @ninjabortion
    @ninjabortion 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Whoa they mount the reg/rec up front? That looks killer and you can't really get any more air on it to cool it than that. Might have to steal that idea...

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's been common on all the Bonnies since 2001, I believe. I had my Reg/Rec on my '05 T-100 give out around 60K, but hell, after 60K I hardly have anything to complain about.

    • @ninjabortion
      @ninjabortion 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      60k is a great run. Old honda guy here, so mounting one up front in the wind might make mine last in the 10's of thousands of miles if i'm lucky...

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I have a '76 Honda CB550 and I am at the point where it's time to just start from the ground up and rewire the whole thing.

    • @ninjabortion
      @ninjabortion 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm already there on my 86 VFR. Just got my stator back from customrewind, going to use a series style reg/rec from roadstercycle, hopefully that and some fresh wires will do it. Directly soldering all connections and ditching all old style connectors where i can.

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up doing a reg/rec and stator on my '99 VFR around 45K. I just went with items from Ricks. Seemed to work out just fine. Hopefully you are successful. There is nothing less confidence inspiring than electrical demons! Best of luck!

    • @RevZilla

      No, the Street Twin is well finished, but the Street Cup is even better. -DrewZilla

  • @OntarioAndrews415
    @OntarioAndrews415 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question(s): I was visiting a local Truimph dealer today/Saturday and I sat on a 2017 Street Twin and a Street Cup. I really like the styling of the Cup, but the handlebar forward lean would eventually bother my back. The Twin is more upright. So on the Cup I would consider tilting/rising the handlebar to get it to the same level as the Twin. The dealership did not see this as an issue. Do you have any opinion doing that as it relates to how the bike may handle or anything else? Thanks.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would be fine doing that, and handling shouldn't be greatly affected. Low speed handling should feel easier, as you won't be putting as much weight on the bars. -DrewZilla

    • @OntarioAndrews415
      @OntarioAndrews415 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Lots to consider. I'm a beginner and I have a 300cc on order, but still have time to change my mind. The Street Cup, though more cc's, has caught my eye.

    • @250frederic
      @250frederic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will get bored and perhaps frustrated quickly with a 300cc. I would definitely go for a Street Cup if I were you. I remember thinking it was better to start with a smaller engine too but I saw a used 2001 Bonneville 790cc and realized the bike itself is not a danger, it's only the way you ride it. After 10 months on the Bonneville I got bored and frustrated with the carburetors and the iffy performance and bought a new Thruxton 900 (which was really 865cc). I loved that bike but honestly, apart from looking really pretty it felt too much like a big scooter at the end of the day. I just traded it a month ago for a Thruxton R and now at last I feel like I have a real bike. It's not a Ducati Panigale of course, but it's a real sporty bike with beautiful style, amazing performance, modern technology and loads of torque! If the Street Cup is the Thruxton's little brother than it's gonna be a great "little" bike and I'm sure you won't regret it. And maybe in 5 or 6 years when you'll be looking for a bit more bite you can trade it for a Thruxton R or maybe even a Speed Triple if you're into that sort of bike.

    • @OntarioAndrews415
      @OntarioAndrews415 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear yah. If I stilled lived in the US a larger displacement would be more of a contender. However, I now live in western Canada and a 900cc bike would cost me about 1.5k a year for insurance. My driving (car) record is good. It's just freaking expensive here in general. This is not to say I would never get a larger engine ....perhaps just not now.

    • @250frederic
      @250frederic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh really? I live in Québec and it's $570 for my 1200cc. Only what they call the "Risk" bikes cost about 1k, but these are just the super uber sportsbikes, even the Ducati Monster doesn't fit in that category. I heard B.C. was insanely expensive but never thought it was that much! Oh well, you'll have fun regardless of what you ride, plus Western Canada has a 365 bike season, you're lucky!

      Its all about what you are expecting out of it. Its not a sport bike so it is a bit on the heavy side and it doesn't have the same acceleration and top speed that a sport bike has. The weight is mostly down low so it doesn't feel like it is going to tip over on you. I have an 883 and it has plenty of get up and go. I've hit 50 MPH in second gear and have comfortably maintained highway speeds.
      I did modify my Sportster to be more comfortable for me by increasing the ride height with longer progressive rear shocks and tracker bars. I also replaced the stock seat so that I could ride longer distances. The bright side is there is a HUGE market for custom and aftermarket parts.
      Whatever you decide to get, enjoy riding.

    I still can't get past 50 hp, are the forks fully adjustable?

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 59 foot pounds of torque is more fun and notable than peak horsepower.
      The forks have no adjustment and are exactly the same as the Street Twin. The rear shocks have five positions of preload and have a slightly stiffer initial rate than those of the Street Twins. They are also 8mm longer (travel stays the same at 4.7 inches) which steepens the rake and shortens the trail on the Street Cup when compared to the Street Twin. If you are planning on riding this with a heavy hand, you'll most likely end up wanting to upgrade the suspension.
      I got into a lot more of the specifics in the written articles as we had very limited time on the bike itself for this first ride. Check out the article ( www.revzilla.com/common-tread/2017-triumph-street-cup-first-ride-motorcycle-review ) and let me know if you have any follow up questions, I'd be happy to answer any that I can.

      @wei-tsunglin9734 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've owned this bike for more than one month. It doesn't ride like 54bhp, the torque makes it feel bigger. Unless you hit the highway. You still can pass at 5th easily though.

    @reza.hermawan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    sooo... is it any different from the thruxton?

    • @SpurgeonDunbar
      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's completely different. The Thruxton is now a 1200cc, liquid-cooled, high output parallel twin putting out around 95 horsepower and 85 foot-pounds of torque. It's set in a larger frame with better suspension, bigger brakes, and sport sized rubber on the rims. And then there is an R version with gives you even bigger brakes and better suspension than the base version.
      And if you're looking at this compared to the old Thruxton I don't think there is much, if anything, carried over. The Street Cup is base on the new Street Twin platform. I go much more in depth in the written article: www.revzilla.com/common-tread/2017-triumph-street-cup-first-ride-motorcycle-review

    Excellent video and review. I have the similar Street cup, yellow. Question: that beautiful ride on the curvy roads, did you use counter-steering for all turns.... I can just imagine... I am learning and have not yet adventured into those curvy roads yet. Any tips will help. So far, I am very happy with my bike. It is pretty powerful with high torque when needed and I just love it. • @theincrediblesulk5543
      @theincrediblesulk5543 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mudux why would you not compare prices with used bikes? You can get a bike with minimal mileage with the majority manufactures warranty with much higher specification, you would be a fool to not compare used market options when you are looking to spend circa £10,000 on a bike.

      Look at the context. Saying that a new bike is as expensive as an used one is unfair. When you're actually in the market to buy a bike, sure, get the best bang for your buck.

    Well that location wasn't horrible. :) Nice bike! I'd love a Thruxton R with upright ergos - if I bought one I'd do a bar swap for sure.

      Siper2 The Thruxton R has clip-on's though, you'd need to change out the whole top yoke to put standard bars on. There have been spy shots of a "Speed Twin" mind you. I'd check that out, sounds more like what your after.

    Sorry but Triumph has dropped the ball with their new powerplant. Those are pretty poultry numbers from a 900cc water cooled twin.
    My '03 SV 650 pumps out 72 HP and 62 ft.lbs stock whilst being lighter with a pretty linear torque curve that is very easy to ride and have fun on. Does it look as good as the Street Cup? No but, it will out perfom it any day all with 250cc less.
    Hell even the Yamaha TRX 850 (another parallel 270 degree crank twin) is lighter and has 80 HP and 62 ft.lbs stock.
    They actually went backwards when it comes to the engine. Old Thruxton has an 865cc air cooled motor producing 69 HP and 50.1ft.lbs Street Cup (really just a 900cc Thruxton) 900cc water cooled motor producing 55 HP and 59 ft.lbs.
    So they increased the engine size and torque yet dropped the horse power. Basically it is just a wast of time watercooling it as the reason why you do that is, to get more performance out of a motor.
    Seriously, I was expecting better numbers from a newer and bigger motor and for those numbers to be around the 80 to 85 HP and from 60 to 65 ft.lbs. stock considering the extra money you have to shell out over the 865cc bikes.

      Some people think the extra torque is more important.

    • @ripmax333
      @ripmax333 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      they increased the motor size But they actually increased the stroke , hence why all the torque and low revs. low revs and long stroke makes less HP.

      My thought exactly, I've owned 3 air-cooled Bonnies and a Scrambler, these are not that much more for loads and loads of money.

      It's because of a limited cam. If that put a decent cam in it it would rival their 1200. Take look at tecbikeparts TH-cam channel they did an extensive test and found its basically got an UK a2 license limited style cam. Which is stupid because this engine is so nice just neutered.

    Why do Americans always whine about the price of new motorcycles when they get the cheapest prices on the planet? Btw I am amazed that we get the highly advanced motorcycles of today as cheaply as we do considering the inflation-filled bucks that buy them. Triumph has the right idea producing bikes that are powerful but retro-cool. Not everyone is interested in grossly overpowered motorcycles that cannot be used to their full potential on public roads without killing yourself or going to jail.

      @SpurgeonDunbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wasn't complaining about the price, I was merely describing where it falls in the lineup.
      As far as the power is concerned I talked about enjoying the way this bike makes power in both the video as well as the article (www.revzilla.com/common-tread/2017-triumph-street-cup-first-ride-motorcycle-review ). I never once slagged it for not making enough power. I would much rather have a fun torquey engine with a solid mid-range "pop" than something that makes peak horsepower only when it's wound out within an inch of its life. This is something I addressed in the original Street Twin article and video as well.
      And I am not alone. Most of the American journalists I spoke with felt the same way about this engine. Many American magazines showered this 900cc engine with accolades when it was released in the Street Twin last year and quite a few gave that bike as a whole quite a bit of love when their end-of-year roundups were released.
      I think bitching about overpowered machines is something that all motorcyclists are guilty of. Look at the FZ-10 review we did. I loved that bike. 160 hp is more than enough to really hurt yourself. Yet in the comments section people were attacking it for "only" making 160 hp. "Did you know the Super Duke makes 175 hp?" Yes, I did.
      After a certain point, unless you're taking it to the track, all anyone really needs to know is that it's bloody, rip-your-arms out of their sockets fast. That, and "how" the power is delivered. I would take 130 hp on the street over 180 hp if I was getting more low to mid-range power. Obviously the track is a different animal unto itself.
      But anyway, I digress. The Street Cup has a fun little engine and it fills a hole in their lineup when it comes to price. It's really up to the rider to determine if it's worth the money Triumph is asking. At the end of the day, consumers will vote with their dollars, or euros, or pesos, or pounds, or rupees, or....
