Mo, after much thought and debating, I joined the darkside last year with a Kumho Solus HA32 195-55-R16. I LOVE IT. the tire handles great, runs smoothly, and I expect it to have a great length of life. Perhaps do as I did, and give darkside a go?

Love your videos, I've been running Bridgestone tires for years on my 2008 GL1800 with tire beads to bal. The stock Dunlaps never lasted long at all.
Went to Shinko on my 06 Road Star 1700, on the Rear and have no complaints the last 3k. Just hard to find a White Wall in that size. Very happy with the Purchase of the Shinko, not chopping, just smoother.
Lol, nothing against the videos other than this is funny stuff. I have had Dunlop Sportmax on my Goldwing since new in 2018. The wear is ok, but, I seem to pick up nails or cuts long before cupping or hitting the wear indicators. The noise is there, it’s never bothered me. But, I have heard of Shenko and it would be great to see your review after riding on it a few thousand miles. I constantly got after my brother in law about his cupping on his Dunlop front tire. He would argue with me that was normal. Finally, he decided to replace his tires as we are traveling in a few weeks to the upper peninsula of Michigan. Him from Minnesota and I’m coming from Lubbock, Texas. Excited about the trip now that he has convinced himself to get new tires. He said the Dunlops were hard to find and didn’t want to use available Shenko. I say just make sure inflation is correct 36/41 cold. Tread is good and no cuts or cupping. Than ride on. There is nothing worse than doing bike repairs on the side of the road in unfamiliar territory. You are at the mercy of folks you never dealt with. Not to mention wasted time and frustration. Every responsible motorcyclist knows to keep his bike in tip top condition to avoid problems down the road. Ride on Mo…. Loved this video… made me laugh
Good video Mo. I have friends that have used Shinko on their Harley’s before but I don’t remember if anyone praised or complained about them. I have never given those a second thought for my Harley or my wing. It’s usually Bridgestone or Dunlop. Now here is where we will differ…… I currently run Dunlop’s on my Harley and my GoldWing. I switched back from Bridgestone on my Harley because I wasn’t getting the mileage I expected compared to the Dunlop. Not even close. When I bought my GoldWing two years ago, the previous owner had a new set of Dunlop E4’s installed (they had about 2k miles on them) and an additional new spare set that he included in the deal. I can’t seem to wear out the front, but I have replaced the rear with the spare after 14k miles on the first rear tire. Maybe it’s me, but I honestly haven’t had any issues with Dunlop. Maybe I am lucky. However, I am not married to a brand and might try something different next go around.
I double dark sided mine earlier this year and haven’t looked back since 195/55/16 on the rear and Bridgestone btx on the front… and after a few rides and parking lot drills I’m loving it and it even feels more stable… I lean just as much as I did with the mt… will most likely never go back to a mt in the rear… maybe on the front but the rear next tire will be 195/60/16 ct…oh and I run psi 39f 43R and it runs great…
If you want the best motorcycle tire go with metzler 888. They are expensive but grip very well and have a little longer life than Bridgestones. I am not a fan of dunlops either. They don’t have the traction and on my opinion are way overpriced. I run around 25k miles per year and decided to try a kuhmo car tire this year. 5k miles so far and I love it. Plus it only cost me $100 online 👍😁
When I bought my Wing, previous owner had a car tire, wasn't too long I changed back to a motorcycle tire. Did my research and I loved the Michelin Commander IIIs. Been a pretty good and long lasting. Getting close to 10k on front and back. Tread still decent. But, probably another 5k and i will need to change them.
I ride dark on the rear. Like the stability from it.
I put new E4's on my bike last year and I'm not excited about them either. Can't complain about traction but they are noisy and not the smoothest ride. I needed tires and Dunlop was what I could find. I'll go Bridgestone next time.
As for the head shake from what i heard is all 01 to 17 wings have the Goldwing wobble at 40mph. You the handle bar go and they all do that. Mine does it at 176,000 plus and my friends with 45,000 and is a 2012 does it as well. Could be wrong on that and if so please let me know.
Shinko had problems with there tires a few years ago but they seam to have fixed it

Are you still debating going darkside? My rear MC tire is due to replacement soon, and I'm not 100% about making the switch to CT.

In all seriousness, I change my tires every 6-8 months or so. Only had 1 problem with my last new front tire, a Shinko tire, which caused a wobble @35-40MPH.
Turns out to be the defective tire, a CHEAP tire at that, which ended up costing me total of @$550 because of replacement new Bridgestone, which I should've spent the money on in the 1st place😅
That dumb mistake cost me extra @$150+$75 install, trying to go cheap and save some $$$, which it didn't.

I'm just seeing this video, so I'm sure you've dealt with the issue. I don't reccommend this to most people, but I know you are knowageable ecnough and experienced enough to handle a car tire. Yes, darkside. I was very skeptical at first and it took me about two years of reading/researching information on darksiding. I eventually tried it. After about an hour of riding, I was sold. I don't ride nearly as much as you do, but it works for me! And it works even better when I pull my trailer. Mileage and cost were the main selling factors for me, and safety issues have not been a problem. I've ridden twistees in the mountains with ease. Consider the darkside for your next purchase. Btw, from my research, Shinko has a less than positive acceptance. They don't last. I'd pick Dunlop over them.

Good video Mo. I'm also not a Dunlop fan. Been riding a GL1800 since 2005.
Your correct about the head bearing shake. I also found that using balancing beads has
added about 2000 more wear miles and eliminated any tire tread cupping.
As for the rear tire, I also have gone to the Dark Side. I love the "run flat" safety, smoother ride,
and better traction in extreme conditions. With the "right" CT, transitioning performance is
nearly identical to a MC tire. I am able to switch back and forth to compare and now after
16 years going Dark, I will never go back. Especially to those noisy and slippery when wet Dunlops.

I've gone dark side and love the car tire on my gl1500 195/65/16 for gl1800 195/55/16 the only people that don't like car tires are the one's that have never tried one ,they ride smoother,quieter, brake better, cost 1/3 and last longer. You might notice it for the first 100 miles then it's normal, also on the front Bridgestone BT 46 Rear tire will last twice as long!
I agree with you about the Dunlops. Also just an FYI, but the tire you put on your Wing is not exactly the right size. You need a 180/60/16. You put on a 180/65/16. Aspect number is not correct. This tire is slightly taller than the 60 aspect OEM tire. It will probably work, but it would be prudent to check the load rating and speed rating of this tire to make sure it meets the specs for the Wing.
Interesting, just bought Bridgestone and was encouraged by cycle gear to buy the Dunlop elite for longer wear life. I almost sent the Bridgestone back to get the Dunlop. I watch your videos along with Cruiseman garage. Seem like I made the right choice. Great video Mo. Ride safe.
The Shinko tire that you showed had a B on it. It's a Bias ply tire. I guessing your mixing a bias ply with your front radial tire. Not a very good practice. The two types of tires handle completely different
I need tires too on my 1800. I'll ask about the shinco....wondering what's the price difference? Not gonna make a big hoot about it ... but if your saying shinco run smooth , im in ......im assuming both are shinco...front n back ....

i brought a 2010 wing two months ago had a Bridgestone on rear that was getting down so a purchased Shinko it being 200 dollars cheaper its load rating also way better has a slightly higher side wall profile than the Bridgestone that came of has dropped my tachometer down 200rpm around the speed limit also my fuel usage seems way better done 100 miles on this Tyre so far...handles very well on corners on the wing...also. Have to agree on the Dunlop's would never run them again ever on my last Harley was only getting 4200 miles from them on rear
Being local in Berrien County I have used Gilson’s for many tires and other work on bikes. I highly recommend him.

I loved the Dunlop 404 on my roadstar 1700. But my wing has Bridgestone. I hated the Bridgestone on my roadstar but love it on the wing. Of course my last tire I figured I'd try the darkside. Still Bridgestone but I agree the Dunlop isn't for the wing for me either. Love your content. Thanks MO.
Ive had 2 set of Dunlops on my 01 wing and the first set i got 13,500 on them the second set i got 11,000 on them. Loved them. Ive had the bike 7 years now and im on my 6 set of tires. I do ride a lot. I only have the Bridgestones on there the last two times cause of covid the Dunlops just weren't available. And my friend owns a Honda dealership in Lake Barrington Il. But i do like the Bridgestons just prefer the Dunlops over all. And great videos by the way.
I've thought about Shinkos, it'll be interesting to see how they work for you. I've been using Brigestones for years. I usually buy a set every year. I'm getting about 10k on the rear, the front usually has a little life left on it but I change them both each time. A friend of mine double dark sided his '10 but it didn't work out so good for him. Not sure why, maybe he didn't keep the pressures up to snuff. His front now has severe cupping. To the point that when you are pushing it around the driveway it feels like there is a tractor tire on the front. I will be putting Bridgestones back on it for him tomorrow.
What I got from this video, the tire shops today have to be convinced to do a business with you. I called 10 shops and nobody wanted to touch a tire without making (two week waiting period) appointment. Are you kidding me. It is like going to a doctor. Please do me a favor, take my 40 dollars and mount a stupid tire for me. Please, I am begging. PLEASE.
This is ridiculous, and has to stop. I encourage everyone, just to learn how to do it yourself and how to balance your own tires at home. Can't live with fact, that my life depends on some idiot ,

I know little about tires, yet I know how important a tire change can be. Here's a tire story. An airport did regular tests on emergency response. All the big Apparatus were the same and all the small rigs were the same as each other. The first big rig that needed tires, got different ones than the like rigs. Next test, the big Apparatus caught up with the small quick response Apparatus and that had not happened. Tires matter.
YOU WILL LIKE SHIMKO TIRES I HAVE IT ON MY 2020 YAMAHA VMAX 1700 AND IT WAS RECOMENDED BY MY BUDDY VMAX OWNER.. LOVE IT SO FAR THEIR FAIRLY NEW I JUST GOT LIKE LESS THAN 200 MILES ON THEM. TRUST ME YOULL LOVE THEM SHIMKOS..👍

Cupping is caused from low air pressure
Pretty sure cupping is caused by suspension oscillation.

I have had problems with my Dunlops as well. Switched over to Bridgestones. When my last Bridgestone 3 (rear) prematurely failed ,I switched back to the Dunlop Elite 4 and have about 6,000 miles on it and it still rides and looks nice.
Have a Dunlop on front ready to change it. Rear is still good for more miles but my ultra classic does have a little wobble I don’t like and I’ve been thinking of going dark. Maybe I’ll just do it now. Is there a recommendation for the rear

I’ve never tried Shinkos either and I’m looking at their new 999 which is supposed to be there longest mileage tire !
Shinko 890 journey very good tires handles much better than the Dunlop tire that were on my 98 Valkyrie had a Bridgestone exedra on the front couple of years zero complaints did well but no better than the journey 890 are just as good IMHO.

The worst tire I’ve ever had for when you lean over right and left and making lots of noise was a Metzler ME880

Love my Dunlaps, I buy nothing but Dunlaps. I ride in the rain a lot and Dunlaps are great for wet pavement.
I imagine that's why they make a little noise when you lean, pretty good trade off.
You definitely need patience when it comes to motorcycles. You spend more money if your when your rushed. I thought you have other bikes in the shed to ride for when one of them is being worked on. In February of this year I took my FJR in to my independent mechanic for a tune up and valve check. It took three weeks before it was done. This normal for this shop because a lot of people use him because he’s that good. I have more than one motorcycle so I just rode my other bike. I had a 2009 goldwing and I believe I switched from dunlops to Bridgestone because of cupping issues. Now Dunlop American elites work great on my Harley ultra limited. Different than a goldwing I guess.
