It's strange to hear you struggling with loot so much. In general if you look at the loot requirements in terms of percentage of the whole loot in each missions, it's a pretty low percentage. Meaning there is plenty of loot. But also most of the time not only that I didn't have any problem with the loot requirement (I usually ticked that objective half-way through a mission), I actually often came very close to finding all loot in each mission. I guess it goes down to how familiar you are with FM authors typical places for hiding loot. Once you've seen their tricks a few times you know where to look. And of course thorough exploration. Most people seem to be missing entire sections in these missions. Also on an unrelated note, from the footage its obvious you have wrong textures. Probably because of the flawed way you installed the campaign you described in the beginning. The way you install it is very simple. 1. Install Thief Gold from Steam/GOG. 2. Apply the TFix Lite patch (and only the Lite version of the patch). 3. Use AngelLoader to play it, whether the OGs or FMs. To play FMs you just put the archives in a folder, and point to that folder in AngelLoader's settings. You don't extract anything. That's it. Also you have to turn up the gamma for FMs. There is something like a global darkness setting in dromed, and FM authors usually use a darker setting for their missions compared to the vanilla game. Hence why mission often look darker than they should. Just crack up the gamma a bit more for FMs.
it could be that, i just suck at looking and examining each room for secrets and spots that loot might be there. It was just the overall experience as a first timer of these missions and my feed back to the authors if they ever come across it. I still loved playing through it and didn't mean for that to sound too negative. Also yes im not an expert in installing mods, my thief gold is on steam and i just try stuff and see if it works. I will pin your comment to the top incase anyone else comes here and has issues getting it to work. Appreciate your thoughts
@@ShadoSpartan44 People struggling with loot goals is a common complaint from the early days to now. Because it's so common modern authors are actually pretty lenient with the loots goals. I just played Hidden Agenda, which is from 2002 (excellent huge Mechanist mission), and the loot goal is something like 2600 from 3400 total loot in the mission, ~500 of which are from the secrets. I actually didn't have to look for loot to finish the mission, but I ticked that objective very very late in the mission, which is rare for modern missions. So authors are aware of these complains and do good jobs nowadays. I also thing its actually good to have a loot goal because it basically incentivizes you to explore more, and if you are missing loot and are at the end of a mission it usually tells you you probably missed a big portion. It also help you make you a better player in terms of thorough exploration and secret hunting, so I think its good to make people into more sophisticated players.
Great review! Jaws of Darkness is probably one of my all time favourite missions ever! The design, the atmosphere, everything is great! My personal highlight is the last part where you go down into the caves to grab the tablets. That section and those creatures reminded me why I love the world of Thief so much, because you don't know what those things are! Are they animals? Were they once human? Are they some kind of gods? There are now answers to all these questions. The Thief games have always spiked my imagination, and this mission was the peak of it!
In the Bonehoard like mission there's actually a secret objective you can do to get a holy sword that kills undead, that you carry with you into the remaining levels.
@@ShadoSpartan44 It's rather long, but if you read all of the scrolls and tablets you can figure out what you need to do. Simply put you're assembling pieces hidden in various areas across the mission.
Somebody on a review page said this campaign feels like it's less than the sum of its parts... and I kinda agree. Your opinions on map sizes are totally valid - the side areas are way too expansive and distracting... bigger isn't always better. And the story is considerably worse than T2X. That said, it's still the greatest accomplishment in terms of novelty when it comes to Thief FMs. The number of times you're gonna say "I've never seen that in my 20 years playing Thief series" is unprecedented and really astounding. It's a milestone in how much you can stretch the good old engine and definitely a must play.
Wahey, another upload! 👍 Thoroughly enjoying your content bro. Watched another blast from the past on a similar channel the other day, Theme Hospital, if you've ever played it? Made by Bullfrog, same as Dungeon Keeper.
The campaign is from (hardcore) fans for the same ones. I really enjoyed the exploration that comes with the loot goal. But I can understand, that it might get annoying. But then just dont play Expert I guess. Very sorry to hear the fast zombie was stuck for you. It was the creepiest experience for me in the dark pit with no way out and it being a labyrinth.
yeah, if i ever replay this i will probably play on normal for an easier loot requirement, and yeah the fast zombie i really lucked out on, i felt like that was going to be a boss fight
I think the loot critique is pretty poor on your part, I just finished playing the campaign for my first time ever and always rocketed way past. This campaign is a massive accomplishment that took years of hard work and what I'm gleeming is that you didn't take the time to enjoy the map and see everything you could, which is the wrong way to play this campaign in my opinion. I couldn't wait to find everything and still going through the forums I seem to have missed almost all the secrets and a good portion of some maps. Regardless of that though, I fly past the loot goal each and every single time. This is a passion project that should be played to enjoy rather than play to win
i was playing to enjoy, it was just the moment i finished exploring every room, completed all the objectives, I would find myself re-exploring the entire level again, sometimes even more, just to find enough loot to finish. My point is the loot wasn't easy to find, some like yourself might get lucky and stumble across enough loot during the playthrough. It is still an awesome mod and I say it again at the end of the video for people to try.

Idk, I just never have any problem getting the loot required to finish missions. But I've also been playing off and on since 1997.

Play Into the Odd if you haven't already, made by the same authors that made Jaws of Darkness, and its the blueprint for this style of mission.
