I've reread this book a few times and I know those of you who have read it too have found it to be really useful! Here's the link to get it on Amazon if anyone else is keen to read it. geni.us/SpeakFluentlyRawlings
i'm currently learning italian + korean + some few things in mandarin and i just want to say that you inspire sooo much!! i am portuguese native so i need to improve my english a lot too haha!! 💘
Lol me too i'm learning korean and trying to improve my english and want to learn brazilian portuguese but i'm italian. The thing is that i'm actually not constant with my studies. Are you a self taught too?
Def want to check out this book. I personally love grammar because I like knowing how a sentence is put together. I find knowledge of just words and how a sentence is put together is what I really want to know. Learning certain phrases in languages are helpful because they are so far removed from other languages. (Like proverbs and such.) But other things, at least for me, are learned through words and how phrases are put together. If I know the words and how to express them, then I know I can express myself in a different language.
For grammar fans such as myself...when you're learning a new language, try the "English Grammar for Students of (language)" series from The Olivia and Hill Press. The languages they have books for are: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Latin, Russian, Japanese, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese (simplified), ESL - Inglés.
I loved Alex’s book! It was just fantastic and I personally found that even as an experienced language learner, I still learnt so much that I could put into practice! I would highly recommend the book!
Thanks so much for this! I have about 2 or 3 books on how to learn a language and I notice they all present the info in slightly different ways and you can find unique perspectives from each. I definitely want to read this one so I can officially declare myself an "aspiring polyglot" lol.
oh boy, this book sounds like a super good read. i'm doing a masters about second language acquisition and researching all the theories and whatnot that goes into language acquisition and this book sounds like it would be another great perspective on things!

It’s sound great. I’m a learning English language and it’s a quite difficult. I started learning the language 3 years ago and I’ve gotten better and better I think I have to buy this book hopefully I’ll find it at Saudi’s libraries. Big thanks.

Nice answers guys... but just an fyi, sometimes they still aren’t available. Eg. Amazon.com won’t ship to Australia now because of our stupid tax laws, and Amazon.com.au only stocks a fraction of the titles. Kindle is still not a book book, and personally my eyes don’t work well with screens. So one word answers without finding mire specific info about where a person is, are not overly helpful and just seem to be ridiculing someone. Just wanderer... where are you living?
@@catedeanssmith well you can always get a real Kindle or other e-reader if you don't like screens, and ebooks are better than no books at all... I live in Germany but I lived in rural South Africa for a year, where ebooks where my only books

Thanks for a very compelling review! What are the other books on language learning/ acquisition you 've read so far and you'd recommend? P.s. It would be cool to make a video on that too. 😁
I will get this book, but I will skip the bit on learning styles. This is an idea that was made up out of thin air and to some seemed to make sense so gained traction. Control testing has shown that it does not work. P.S. I love you videos and watch them all.
Thank you for recommendation, it's sounds good. Actually I' m looking for a book which show me sentence structure the practical side. I have been difficulties for understand English grammar tenses. Of course I have many books in my mother language about grammar but still it's not what I expected. As I was saying I feel so wird because I don't know Polish grammar too and I build wonderful sentence and write down beautiful story. And I want to learn English of myself because many teacher told me that is impossible because I can't understand grammar tense. I found this book on polish publisher and I'll give it a go. Maybe it was better way to improve my English. If you have any video where told you how fast study English grammar I will be thankful :) for send me link.
I have bought this book and I thought that I will have been reading it two monts and I was reading this book on two days! The book was amazing! And so is croucial - they are changed my life, my look at all studying process. I know that my English is far from perfect but I sheer enjoy that I bought this book! Thanks.
Hey, I've been just starting following your youtube channel, I have to disciver your videos etc... But I have a question: Have you made a video where you talk about how to learn several languages togheter? Next year I'm going to attend a University language and I need some advice to study more languages at the same time. Thank you :)
Hi! I am learning Chinese and I have a question about reading Chinese texts. Should I read them with pinjin? (I mean both at the same time) Do you know any good method about it?
Hi Lindie! I want to ask you, is it okay to learn 2-4 languages in one time? Or I have to learn one language, then after I should learn another language. I m learning German right now and Latin, but at my University i have found really cool courses of Italian language. I want to teach this language, but i afraid to learn 3 languages at a time, i think I can mix them in my head. :((
I'm learning 3 languages (spanish, german, and arabic) at the same time. I don't know why but I find it much easier rather than when I learn just one specific language
I am kind of trying the same, but it's not a really amazing idea unless you really dedicate a lot of time to the process. Like she says maybe an hour a day for each language. Otherwise you'll just seem indecisive like me lol.
I'm learning four languages seriously right now (German, American Sign Language, Bengali, and Arabic), so obviously I think this is okay. Yes, it will be harder but this is mostly because of how much time you will be able to dedicate to each language, which means slower progress. But it's a simple trade-off, because either you learn Italian, German, and Latin all a little slower now, or you don't know ANY Italian for a few years. So I think that it's totally fine to learn a few languages, especially if you're able to just make sure you have time to study them. Especially in your case, one of your languages is a dead language, and therefore you're using it in a different way then you're other two. And German and Italian are different enough that things shouldn't get too mixed up in your head, especially since you already have an established base in German, which helps separate the two. Yes, there are instances where I mix languages, but it has ALWAYS been just in my head (not in a conversation) and it is usually not because I am confused, but simply because I don't know a word in one language. For example, I often throw in German words to my Bengali (but again, only in my thoughts and I am aware I am doing it) because I know the German word but not the Bengali one and I'm in "foreign language mode." However, if I was only learning Bengali, I would of course do the same thing, only with words from my native language, English. So this has been my super long way of answering your question: yes, you can learn multiple languages at once!
Sophie Pilipenko hallo, wie gehts dir? :) my general rule is to not let one language take away motivation from another. If that happens I'm studying too many languages
I've reread this book a few times and I know those of you who have read it too have found it to be really useful! Here's the link to get it on Amazon if anyone else is keen to read it. geni.us/SpeakFluentlyRawlings
