RTFM! I don't fly a bird until I'm done reading the manual front to back... and then I supplement that with other resources. It's hard to discipline myself not to just use autostart so I can go up and shoot the tower before I even know the bird, but it pays off big when I wait. I used to spend a lot of time answering questions on the boards to help people, but it became too toxic and I bailed. My method of helping them see the value of the manual was to backup all my answers with the page it can be found in the manual. I never berated anyone for having questions, but I must say that I was frustrated when the questions became basic and excessive because they were under the impression that they could skip the learning phase by having others provide easy answers to the most basic concepts. These are some of the most complex machines ever made, and it's impossible to learn by osmosis. There should be some sort of educational video when you load up DCS World which shows the difference between a Standard Flight Modules (SFM) and a Professional Flight Modules (PFM). If you don't enjoy studying the aircraft and it's subsystems in excruciating detail (study sim PFM) then you should choose the simple way (game mode SFM). People run into trouble when they try to have it both ways; big ability with little learning.
Thank you for this encouraging video. I‘m a beginner and try to learn mainly through InGameTutorial, but it‘s no fun to go through the whole tutorial sequence to the beginning of that chapter, when I‘d failed and just want to retry the flying part. I‘m hopefull to find the forwarding tool somewhere in the DCS manual. Have not seen it yet. Beeing german and reading or watching mostly in english is also very challenging, especially with all the abbreviations for all kind of things. Happy new year from Esslingen.
Yes I really wish they had a "skip" option for the tutorials. I use the fast forward a lot myself which I believe by default is CTL + Z, at least on English keyboard. I'm not sure if it changes for other languages. Then Shift + Z sets the game speed back to normal. That might help you get through the lengthy stuff you don't need to listen to again. And the language thing is why I wish I would have learned other languages when I was young. I wish I could talk to more people. Thanks, good luck, and happy new year!
@@311Gryphon Thank you so much for your response. Today finally I've got time to fly again and try out your tip you gave me with fast forwarding the tutorial. Unfortunatly it didn't work , although I've adjusted the german keyboard to the english one. Thank you anway, it was worth trying out.
What's frustrating for me is the change in terminology TMS up ( can't say target designate ) now it's TMS forward and yes it takes me a while to figure it out. Nope i won't ask on the Forum cause I will get slammed by a real fighter pilot or internet tuff guy. I just trail along till I get it. I do read the manual, but I do not play on a regular basis. That is why I gave up on the F18 and stick to the F16 years of Falcon 4 have paid off. Relevant video thanks!
Yeah I agree on that stuff. It is even worse with Early Access because things change, so you might learn it one way then have to learn it another. Then the procedures are so intricate at times that if you miss one little thing or do one thing out of order it won't work right. There are a lot of helpful people on the forums though and I appreciate that, but I've had some Gamer Chair Fighter Pilots tell me to "get 10,000 hours in the aircraft then I'll be a novice". Which is really just a brag and not helpful at all.
