I have the same textbook for my women/gender studies class and I LOVE IT! The essays at the end of the chapters are so enlightening and interesting, and the "White Privilege & Male Privilege" text was one of my favorites! It really puts into perspective the invisible forces that lift us up or push us down depending on one aspect of our identity, it's so fascinating. I think it's so so so important not only to reckognize how society rewards us (in my case, I am an able-bodied male) but also how it punishes us (in my case, I am a bisexual, genderfluid Asian) for being a certain way. I think there was another essay titled "There Is No Hierarchy of Oppression" by Audre Lorde and she basically states the importance of intersectionality and coming together with individuals outside of your particular identity group in order to demolish the oppressive system at the top. The ways I experience inequality, though different from the ways you do, do not trump or cancel out your experiences. 10/10 would reccommend. Essentially, I want to marry that entire textbook tbh #dontkinkshameme

I have the same feelings that you have. I feel like I'm constantly scared to add my thoughts to conversations about diversity for fear of sounding arrogant through white privilege. I feel like there are so many different aspects of white privilege that I don't know about & that's something that I need to change. The great thing is, especially through something amazing like diverseathon, there are so many opportunities to learn & even if you make mistakes, those mistakes lead to you growing and becoming a better person.
That conversation with your friends at the end of the vlog was SO FUNNY!

We used the same book in my WaGS class and it was pretty cool! I did it online, so there were a lot of powerpoints too. I'm not sure if they were made by the teacher or not, but there were also pretty good. I'm sure you'll do well in that class!
Totally agree on how great gender studies classes are omg. I'm taking a women in film class this semester and I'm l oving it like they're such incredible discussion classes??

It is allowed to annotate rental books where you are? If I did that around here, I most likely would have to buy the book from the library afterwards...
If you rent a book from the campus bookstore you can write in it. They say as long as you write in pencil but most of the time they won't make you buy it even if you write in pen.
this is from my campus bookstore so yes, I can write in it! If it was from the library though, then that's a whole other story. I'd probably get in trouble lol.
It's always fascinating how different schools can be.
The library (doesn't matter if my university's or the public library) would make you buy the book if you did that. That's the reason I always need to buy all books for my classes.

I really do wanna take a class in women's studies not only because it will be interesting but feminism YESSS but I don't really know what field you can get into with that it just seems really random because I want to study law and I feel like a degree in that class may just be useless even though it will be interesting. Do plan on entering a field that involves women studies?
I'm not majoring in women and gender studies (mainly for time/credit reasons) but I've done a program before where they discussed this issue. Firstly, you can go to law school with a wide range of backgrounds. Secondly, it teaches you a different way of thinking that could appeal to employers regardless of the field. It can teach you how to write better and more concisely and to consider people and views that others may not see. Which I think can be important in law. I do think it can seem like poor prospects but if you work hard, you can definitely make it work. It's a less straight-forward path but I do think there are a lot of positive aspects that you could make work for you :)

the poop thing is actually real. if you are constipated and the poop doesn't come out on one side, you'll get it out the other... disgusting but true. happens alot amongs elderly and disabled who can't poop without medicin and is poorly cared for.

I think it speaks wonders that you gave a diverse book a chance just as you would a book by a white author. Have you liked every book you've read by white male authors? No. You don't have to like it, you should just judge it as you would any other book. You're doing better than a lot of people just by making an effort to read diversely.
