We have a lot in common. I grew up in South Holland, Illinois. I owned wooden shoes and participated in our Tulip Festival every year. They still have it last time I checked. I also play the piano. Small world...
My husband walked by and watched you over my shoulder for a moment or two. He said What’s up and i said I’m watching Trish, he asked who is Trish i said my TH-cam Fiber guru and I love her puppy. So he watched a bit more and aid, Trish seems sweet, she sure comes across kind and genuine, nice to listen to. Say hi for me, So HI from my hubby :) and from me dog kisses from my dogs to yours.
I don’t really care what comes out of your mouth because you are adorable!!! Except that I stay and listen because I have learned so much! And Luther is just the sweetest love! It was so much fun. Thank you for your time, hard work and friendship. 🧶 ❤️ ☺️
It's hard to believe you've done 15 of these, and I've learned a lot from them. Again, thank you so much! I love folk dancing! It's so awesome that this tradition was continued by people in your area, and I love that you chose it as your "sport!" It's so cute the way Luther just looks so adoringly at you sometimes during these videos. It's obvious he adores his Mama. :)
I'm not allowed to watch this until John gets home from a trip. He said he's watched the other 14, he's all the way in. :) It's nice to have a sweetheart with whom to play with - at least the weaving. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. It's so not fair. Sending virtual hugs if you want them. :)
Hi Trish, I really liked that you turned down the music in your first spin and let us hear your matchless wheel. Part of the enjoyment in spinning for me is to listen to the wheel. Thanks for another great video!
I have all my fiber samples in a basket, and as I was spinning the Targhee, I have been very self-satisfied with the productivity represented. Can't wait until all 30 of my samples are spun and in there!
So looking forward to the finished project and all the extras too! So thankful for your time and patience and sharing yourself with us as you go through this study!
My daughter was on the high school ballroom dancing team and I have loved watching her dance! Now my two boys are on the team as well. Probably not the coolest either, but I love it!
Thank you soooo much I love the breed study it saddens me to be over, but I will definitely still be watching you...you have taught me so much...many blessings to you..
I am not ready for the breed study to end. I have enjoyed every minute of it and have watched the whole series several times. Thank you for bringing it to us. Just a note: I spun some whiteface woodland when I was first learning to spin. I made an afghan with it and loved the wool. It was just right for a nice warm wooly afghan...lol...for my cousin :)
Hi Trish, hope you're OK. Sorry I'm late watching this Woodland & Zwarbtles Sheep Breed Study. Loe the Halo that came off the White Faced Woodland. Love the Zwarbtle it seems to have a lot of versatility. Thankyou for all the work you put in to bringing us all the different Sheep Breeds in one place. Thanks again. Happy Spinning. Take care & stay safe. Lots of love Jen xxxx
Thank you SO much for this breed study so far! What an epic series - you are wonderful. I have enjoyed every moment of it and am really looking forward to the continuation of it ‘Trish-style’! Thank you again - you are an inspiration 🙏
There's also lettering in Speech & Debate (which I'd have been sweating through worse than some sports I lettered in!), be proud of your Dutch Dance letter! ❤
I grew up in Pella, IA, which was also a Dutch settled/founded town. Our festival was called Tulip Time. And in highschool you could take Dutch Dancing as well! I never did, but some of my friends did. I knew there were other towns that essentially did the same. Just now realizing how it might seem weird to people that didn't grow up with it 😂
Hi Trish, OH MY Goodness that is a big box, Holy Moly, I have been watching all of the breed studies with you and omgoodness I never realized how much we went through, I am truly amazed, WOW, lol That is super AWESOME, Hugssssss and Blessings
This has been so incredibly fun to follow and I feel that I've learned a lot of valuable info on breed characteristics, how they correspond with prep and spinning, and how to navigate all the choices! Thank you!!!
I think just opening up that for is so great, v realizing that we have the option to design yarns beginning with breed characteristics really helped me.
It’s a bit like us, I’m still in Germany but Scottish born and bred. In Scotland we have highland dancing and our annual dances were all in Scottish dancing. We are 3 miles from the Netherlands border and been here just over 1 year and not been able to venture out 🥺 but moving back to the uk 🇬🇧 in 3 weeks!! I have spun Zwartbles. Pronounced Zwar-te-bels. Lovely sheen on it! Loved this video. Thank you. Take it easy hun. X
So excited about the Dutch dance. I may have to plan a trip to MI to see this festival! I love the breed studies. Every time you show a sheep picture I want one! Thanks for doing these.
I LOVED the Zwartble sample so much that I ordered more for a small project. I spun it worsted and as is and it was bouncy and amazing. This was a wild ride and I appreciate you taking the time to helping me learn so much about a craft I'm enjoying immensely 😊
My brother in law's family are Dutch and they run a greenhouse in Wichita, KS. So I totally get the tulip festival thing, but how funny that you could letter in it! I think that's awesome! Thank you so much for doing this breed study. I really enjoyed it!
Great to see you feature Zwartbles! We are in Virginia and are breeding them up through artificial insemination using stock from Ireland and the UK. We currently have 50%/50% Zwartbles/East Friesians and their fleece is beautifully dense. I love the color and because of the density vm is at a minimum on pasture, uncoated. Spring 2022 lambs will be 75/25!☺️
Thanks for all the time and effort you are putting in to this series. Look forward to seeing the next phase for this box....and I look forward to seeing what you are going to spin to fill in the gaps so to speak!
I cant believe you got through the whole Dutch dancing thing without ever once mentioning the wooden shoes and the layers and layers of SOCKS! Also the semi-annual beaning of a tourist with a flying shoe!
Such fun to have a full study box spun up! Congrats. I love that you lettered in Dutch Dance. In NW Washington State, we also have a Tulip Festival. And there is large Dutch Community in a town called Lynden.
Fabulous series! 💗 kinda sad I have to wait a month for the next one. Thank you so much for doing this, I learned so much! Looking forward to your next videos. Love them all!
Loved the pic of you in your Dutch costume! At least you did a sport. My sport was geeky-nerd. (I've been programming computers since I was 11, and I am now 54 and still programming LOL)
I remember making a winking clown face in BASIC on a TRS80 in about third or fourth grade, so I get it! That was back when we had to load an operating system with two big floppies first. Dang, I'm old!
I enjoyed your breed study immensely!! You can get Zwartbles in the US. One of my favorite Etsy shops Hearthside Fibers carries it. She also carries Eider too. Many breeds. Can't wait for the Q & A.
Woo hoo! Yay for you!! I don't know about you, but I LOVE to finish a big project (especially if my mental state isn't great at the time). It makes me feel good. I hope you feel good, too!!😁❤❤
It really does feel like an accomplishment when I look at that full box of yarn, especially since I just chipped away at it, consistently week by week. That is not usually my way 😂❤
I have enjoyed this series very much, I am glad you are continuing it. I would have loved to have Dutch Dancing as an alternative to sports or PE, lol. Blessings.
These are 2 breeds I have not worked with yet. Thanks for sharing your breed study with us. It's been interesting! How cool you lettered in Dutch Dance. My daughter was able to letter in Drama club as its classified as a sport at that high school. Fun!
I'm so glad you are continuing to do breed studies of different kinds! I've been so curious about plant fibers. I thought of all people you would appreciate that I felted my cats fur into a collar for her. It felted really well. Whho'ld a thunk?☺
Thank you Trish, this has been fun and I learned lots. I am in Washington state and up north we have a tulip festival also. Not sure if it includes dancing :) However, Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, WA is rife with tourists doing the chicken dance, lol. Have a great week.
This series has been amaaaazing! Enjoyed learning so much from you. It has inspired me to process raw fibre (alpaca, merino and mohair) and I'm eagerly waiting for the Ashford e carder to be released next month. Yay! My shoulder can't take the manual cranking.
My mouth literally dropped open when you held up the box of spun yarns. Loved your little dance picture. You looked so dutch. Are you sure you are not dutch? Cute.
Loved the look of the Zwartbles. I really like the color but maybe a dye that enhances the natural color. And, OMG, the dancing!!! How do you keep those wooden shoes on your feet??? They are like weapons....shin knockers!
I'm learning SO much from your videos. Keep up the good work. You've got me dusting off my RHL, my wheel, and also give dyeing a try, so thanks (I think. Ha-ha)
Don't tell anybody, but we used to try everything to make a shoe fly into the crowd. Tourists loved it, unless they got beaned, but it was a different time when you could do stuff like that 😂
I'm not a fan of either of these but I do say I have princess hands dont really like medium to corse wools , thanks again trish, I have loved this series looking forward to what comes next love and hugs
Dutch dance doesn't sound so strange to me. I grew up in a town that had a big swiss influence. They have a festival called swiss days. The young kids dressed up in traditional clothes and did clog dancing and yoding. Also for the young teen girls they had a swiss miss pageant.
Woo hoo! First comment! You must be wearing a go pro when you spin sometimes - I love it! We can really see the long draw so well! Thanks for all the vids and I look forward to the next breed study one in June! (You kinda jolted me when you said we are almost halfway through 2021!)
Yes, I think the go pro is great to get a better point of view! I am still getting used to combining the footage in ways that make sense and all that. Can you believe we are almost halfway through the year?? It seems impossible to me too.
That whitefaced looks flooofy. Looks at those stumpy legs, lol. Can you still get those decorative painted wooden shoes from Holland? That's where the tulip festival is right? Look at that Zwartbles white face and socks. Oh wow, I didn't expect that. I thought the whitefaced was gonna have more spring and "looked" like it would come out softer. Shows how you can't judge a book by its cover right!?! 😊 That went fast just like the year has so far. My hubs is Croation. There's lots of those in our area. Ironwwood, MI is full of Finlanders and Hurley, WI next door to there is full of Italians lol.
@@FiberLoveDiary NO WAY!!! I know we say it a lot, but it's a small world isn't it? I know a lot of the areas over there because I worked in Hurley for awhile and lived in Ironwood from '87-'92 lol.
@@candygrubisic Yep, I've been there many times, but only once as an adult. My great grandpa owned a little tavern across the street from the house wayyyyy back when my dad was a kid, so early '50s and he went up there every summer to stay with his grandparents. It is so beautiful in her area.
John Arbon (jarbontextiles.com) uses Zwartbles in a couple of his yarn blends, giving a bit of depth to the colours, as well as Exmoor Zwartbles in 3 natural colours
As a fellow Michigander who lettered in marching band and participated in Scottish highland dancing in festivals around the state....none of this sounds weird at ALL.
Did you grow up near Holland, MI by any chance? I lived in Michigan for over 20 years and always wanted to go to the Tulip festival. Well, at least when I was a kid. I was in the Detroit area though, so that was a bit of a drive. I really want to try to spin the Zwartbles now.
I am so sad that this is over. I learned so very much. Thank you so much. You are awesome. Can't wait to watch the Next one you do. I did not notice it on your channel so I was wondering if you changed your mind about doing these once a month? Hope not. I even ordered my own study. Can't wait till it gets here. Thank you again!!!
It is interesting abt the breads of them. Where would u recommend to buy fibers, like to do spinning. When I was a little girl I use to help my grandma, hand the big spinning wheel. It was such fun. I have a 32 inch loom an brought 10 inch, I would like get the 16 an 24. Wishing for a floor loom. Working those petals. Ty
I have some in my Etsy shop for spinning, both dyed and undyed. There's a link in the description box. It sounds like it brings back nice memories for you, Donna!
I’ve really enjoyed the breed study, and I might have to do one myself once my spinning improves. If you are not done gathering questions, I have one- why are there so few spinners that crochet? Most spinners I come across are knitters, and while some crochet too, they mainly knit. I’m learning to spin, but I only crochet and I wonder if I’m going to be able to use that yarn I make!
You would crochet commercial yarns that others would knit, right? This is no different. If someone can knit it, you can crochet it too, and don't listen to any of the people that say different! Have a great time!
@@FiberLoveDiary You’re right! I had read online that some yarn is marked for crochet or knitting, but I haven’t ever seen that. Alright, I won’t worry about it!!
I have really loved this series! All good things must come to an end... I'm sorry that this part is over, but I am really really looking forward to what you will do with that glorious box of samples. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!! For what it's worth, the one zwartbles fleece I got here in the NL I carded and spun for a felting project. It really did not felt well (in a front-loader). I can still stretch the stitches apart on the project, and could probably even unravel it. But it is lovely and bouncy yarn, and the color is great.
We have a lot in common. I grew up in South Holland, Illinois. I owned wooden shoes and participated in our Tulip Festival every year. They still have it last time I checked. I also play the piano. Small world...
Very small! How many people do you think owned wooden shoes in this country? Not very many!

Oh that outfit was crazy. There were a million pieces and we got inspected each time we danced! LOL
You’ve inspired me to try new breeds as I’ve watched you doing this breed study. You’re such an inspiration.

Yep, we all wore wooden shoes, but we were not allowed to call them clogs (I have no idea why). It's good times!
Holy cow, my great grandma's house is about 20 minutes outside of Hurley. My sister owns it now.
I can totally see why. The color is awesome!
As a fellow Michigander who lettered in marching band and participated in Scottish highland dancing in festivals around the state....none of this sounds weird at ALL.
Because you GET IT 😂😂. but you have to admit, when you explain it to other people, it probably sounds kind of funny. I feel funny saying it!
I do get a lot of, “....you what?”
Yes I know what that feels like 😀😂 and I'm following you!
Holland, Mi. tulip festival cool we're you in that video? Dancing?
I'm not in that video. I haven't danced a step since 1992, the olden days.
To funny you sound like you're 90 !
Did you grow up near Holland, MI by any chance? I lived in Michigan for over 20 years and always wanted to go to the Tulip festival. Well, at least when I was a kid. I was in the Detroit area though, so that was a bit of a drive. I really want to try to spin the Zwartbles now.
Yes, I grew up in Zeeland, just a few minutes away and moved to Holland when I got married the first time. You could still go sometimes!
I want to spin the zwartbles just for the name!
I know! When I looked up how to pronounce it, I was surprised, and I love it!
Have you done the "will it felt" videos yet?
Hi Michelle, yes you should be able to crochet the yarn you spin. There’s no reason that you can’t. So go for it and you will love your item!
Thank you! I can’t wait to try. Now I just need to get up the courage to ply my singles!
I've loved it too! But I am excited for whatever is next. That's really interesting. I wonder about felting with lots of these.
