His dad had stage 4 kidney failure when James wrote this and a donor couldn't be found. After the video was released a distant cousin came forward who was a match. He donated all the profits from this song to Help For Hero's a UK veterans charity (both him and his dad were in the military)

His dad had stage.4. cancer but recovered after a relative stepped forward to have a transplant. It's been over a decade since I cared for my father until he passed away and I was in floods. First off, Miss Ovuada, I appreciated much your reactions and comments, but just as you say as the song was very tugging at the heart, at the same time it was also very beautiful. James made this video at the same time his father was dying of kidney failure and due to the fact that the dad had a rare blood type, no volunteer donors for a kidney transplant could be found, so time was getting close to Jame's father dying. That really is Jame's dad popping up towards the end of the video. Jame's producers did not want him to perform this video with his dad, as they felt it would be too unprofessional, however, James in wanting to pay tribute to his father, insisted. Although he was very emotional and indeed did sing out of key a few times, he gave a very raw but sincere and honest performance. Again, we did appreciate your 'sincere' reactions, which give us all a glimmer of hope for humanity in our caring and feeling for one another...

The good news is that only a few weeks after the song and video (yes that is James' dad) was released a donor was found and thankfully a couple of years on, his Dad is still alive
