- Greetings it has been awhile since my last video. In this short video I will go over some of the upgrades to my bike and show you the new trailer I built back in July. The trailer is a DIY kit from wicycle.com/pr... Wike, out of Ontario Canada, and its a very good kit. The Tub I use is a 55 gallon storage tub I bought from Home Depot the flags and PVC I already had. Its a very good build, but a bit pricey. But if you need a big well built trailer, this is the kit for you.
Nice setup James... and you now have 100 subscibers. Cheers mate.
Yep, but it has changed since this video. So soon as winter decides to leave, I will make a new video. I have changed a few things. And thanks for subscribing.
Nice job, James. The trailer is awesome and I especially like the panniers. I was looking at that particular WIKE kit for the foundation of a tow-behind camping trailer, but thought the wheels might be the weak point. Works perfectly for how you have it set up.
Well it can support up to 150 pounds. Plus when you set up for camping, install jack stands to take the weight off the wheels. I've changed some things since this video, so I will make a new video soon as the weather decides not to be winter.
@@longrider42 I'm looking forward to it. In the meantime I've ordered some slotted drop outs for my recumbent trike. Now I have to investigate what rear hub motor to install. If successful, I'll have a platform for towing my camper.
@@daveyJ213 Okay, when it comes to Hub Motors, you will need to make sure you get a good one. I got mine from Ebikekits.com. I think I put the URL up on one of the video's. Do not buy one off of Amazon. Next you will need to get one that can handle the load your going to pull. The one on the front wheel of my bike is a Direct Drive Magnetic Hub Motor. Two big magnetic rings. One moves, one does not. Apply power and they push against each other. Not a great deal of acceleration, but you can pull up to 500 pounds. That includes of course, the trike, you every thing on the trike, and the trailer. Also you will want at least a 48 volt by 20 amp/hour battery for range. I hope it all works out for you.
it's a nice looking setup, and I like the storage container, bet you can fit about everything you'd want to pull in that.
So far I've only used it to haul a few bag of pop cans to recycle and groceries. Next summer, maybe use it to go camping. Thanks for the comment.
Yes sir. Have fun and be safe out there.
I built that exact design 3 years ago and still have it, though I replaced the box a year ago because I accidentally burned a hole through the lid using it as a windbreaker while making coffee. I need to get a new tow bar because I lost it during a move. I can attest that I put thousands of miles on it with my ebike. It will hold 150 pounds no problem until you get to a steep hill lol. You better have good brakes, I recommend BB7 mechanical disks brakes with 203 mm rotors if you wanna turn your bike into a truck. If you wanna do that for thousands of miles you need a solid rear bolt on axel old school and triple wall down hill double butted spoke rear wheel.
I’m interested in getting this to tow behind my Lectric XP. Looks like it’s $160 for the DIY kit and only $90 more for the trailer fully complete. Add the $20 axle connector and that’s it. I would want to add a cart handle on the back to just head to the water when I park at the beach bike rack with all my stuff.
Very interesting. You have any more bike build updates? I'm getting to where I can use mine again, and have been considering some upgrades (in the most general sense, I'm not quite there yet).
Not as of lately. I will be posting a Ride video some time this weekend. Of my ride from Cheyenne to Archer. about 9.5 miles. I'm working the Laramie County fair, and I do not drive. Take care.
@@longrider42 Same to you!
thanks for the video. How stable si it at high speed ?
Fastest I've ever gotten to, while pulling it, was 18 miles per hour, with no problems.
@@longrider42 thanks. I intend to bring it to around 30-40 mph on my ebike but that seams stable enough especially if not empty. Great setup btw I love it
@@akinnon2000 Depending on the load in your trailer, you may not want to go that fast. Plus what size of motor is in your Ebike? They have load limits. My 48 volt, 500 watt, Direct Drive Magnetic Hub motor has a load capacity of 600 pounds. Most geared hub motors have a limit of around 400 pounds, and mid drives about 350, just something for you to think about. Plus at that speed, it will bounce pretty bad when hitting bumps. Stay safe and wear a helmet.
@@akinnon2000 Did you ever end up getting this? I also want to go about that speed and am wondering how it will hold up.
@@longrider42not to mention braking with a loaded trailer at 40 mph
What kind of bike is that
Hey there, sorry so late in responding, but I'm not getting notified of comments. Any ways, the bike is a 2007 Sun Sport AX Recumbent. That back in 2019 I converted to an Ebike, due to old age :) I love the bike and now that is has an electric motor, I love it even more. I will be doing an update video on the bike and trailer soon as the weather warms up. Thanks.
Where is the comfy bed for a cat? =^_^=
Have you ever built a bicycle camper? That's what I need built in order to keep from being completely homeless.
I have been thinking about it, but the problem is making it big enough so it does not feel like laying in a coffin. Plus, money is tight. What I have thought of is some kind of pop up design with fold out sides. But I'd have to take the wheels off. Now I can carry a tent and sleeping bag and such, in my trailer.
