I ❤ the lucky cat especially as a bank. Here's a little about them and what the colors mean:
Maneki-neko are typically depicted seated and holding a koban coin, an oval gold coin from Japan’s Edo period. It features the phrase, sen man ryou (千万両), meaning 10 million gold pieces.
White: Happiness, purity
Black: Safety, wards off evil spirits
Red: Protection from illness
Gold: Wealth and prosperity
Pink: Love and romance
Blue: Success in education
Green: Family safety

Slipcasting of clay is one of those things that has always felt like it just shouldn't work to me, but somehow it does. Always interesting to see the process in action.
The plaster mold absorbs water from the slip leaving a thick "skin" of clay on the sides.

I did this in a few Ceramic Studios in Milwaukee for 30 years. I loved all of it! Filling, emptying, fettling and unmolding, it was fun!

Wonderful process. Would love to see more. The creative process is awesome to watch. It must be a joy to see these cats created and come to life ❤️ through their creation.
I thought this would be something super high-tech. How amazing to see this old-fashioned manufacturing process, which still involves real craftsmanship and art, in use today. I have a little ceramic Japanese maneki-neko in my living room. I love it.
It's an old technique, been around a few hundred years I believe.
