Hi guys. 21.14 was sporty! Reminds me that I once had to take on supplies thrown to me from the dock whilst I was helming a dinghy with that sort of surge. South Pacific somewhere. The Marquesas, possibly. I nearly landed square on the dock more than once!
Very interesting video showing so much of Ascension Island. Well documented. I really enjoyed seeing the path and the historical landmarks. You looking at turtles on beach reminded me of a beach on pacific side of Panama. Same type of sand and all. I recall a little turtle crawl over my feet making its way in to the Pacific. I often thought about this years after how the turtle was doing. I was very impressed by the signage and walks round Ascension. Surely this could be made in to a decent stopover for the Airtanker service between RAF Brize Norton and Falklands. Not to mention a connection with Saint Helena. Great scenes showing you getting in and off dingy and the sharks on the water. How brave if you. I think I might have chickened out. The rats on island interesting. Surely there must be some predator. No snakes. Great video. Thanks.
Great video, but boy, this must be well over 2 years ago now. When will we see some updated video on your own private vessel, the work you are doing to her and when you are going to set sail?
Hello! Yes you are right it is two years ago. We hoped the story and content would be worth the delay :) We had a little boy and since then only one of us has been working at sea (mostly Chris) so it’s been a bit of a juggle trying to produce the films together alongside our professional work commitments, which can take Chris away up to 8 weeks at a time. We hope we can grow our channel enough that we each go away to work at sea less and then film from our own expedition yacht much more 🙂 We tend to keep our IG page up to date :) I hope that all makes sense. We are working onboard Ocean Wanderer (our boat) now - she’s come a long way since we bought her… 😁 Thanks for watching our film and for your comment - it’s appreciated 😊 Sophie 🌊
Thank you very much ! Yes I also had hoped to capture some native birds on film! I tried to photograph and film the sooty tern but they were far too quick for me ! Have you seen our Gough Island film where we get very close to feeding Atlantic yellow nosed albatross chicks - that was one of the best experiences in my life ! Thanks again for watching and we really appreciate your comment 🙂 Sophie 🌊
Wow, I have always thought of Ascension as a volcanic rock with an airstrip on it, but I think you have made this place a destination for circumnavigators returning via South Africa to Europe. Amazing bamboo summit, and tunneled path around mountain.
you must not be very well versed in the cruising world and sailing history if you assume they made this place a destination for sailors returning to europe
@@pred7949 I thought they made it seem worth a stop. I know of sailors that have stopped at St Helena, and even Tristan da Cunha, but thought Ascension was just a barren rock with a military base on.
@@chrisyarnold6205 st helena gets the most publicity for sure, but TDC and Ascension are equally popular, even for southern hemisphere sailors from africa, south america too.
Hi Chris! Yes it is interesting that this really isn’t a stop for sailors, you are right most pull in to St Helena. Many then go straight to the Azores bypassing Ascension. It wasn’t set up for sailors at all ie no marina/ no breakwater wall, no pontoon for landing etc, perhaps that puts people off? There was one other yacht there at the same time, they had been circumnavigating on their catamaran. We found the bay we were in was quite exposed if it had been windy but whilst there, we hardly had a puff of wind. We loved it so much and found 3 days was not enough to explore at all- we plan to sail our boat there and hopefully stay at least 3 weeks. Thanks for your comment - we are super glad to receive positive feedback about the film 😊 Sophie 🌊
Hi guys, hope you're both well! Q - I'm just pondering about your future plans, now that you have departed Polaris in ownership. (Beautiful rugged boat!) Are there any ideas on the table for a new/different boat? or other things. Thanks for all the vlogs! 8 )
Hello! That’s a good question! And in the next episode it answers this question… we stopped in the Azores and stumbled upon a For Sale sign on a small steel expedition yacht…! If you have Instagram we post regularly there :) we now plan to sail remotely on our own terms and video along the way 🙂 I hope that all makes sense! And I hope the next film answers your question fully 🙂 Thank you for your comment and for watching! Sophie 🌊
Hi Sophie & Chris, I realize you're professional sailors and not TH-cam celebrities. But you are missing a revenue source. If appropriate, hire someone to video or do it yourselves, and have it made into a TH-cam weekly series. We are curious about your experiences. Regards Billy
I have been endangered as well because of militant climate changers. I escaped south into even more heat. I am sorry for the needed downvote, the film is nice. Next time I will watch muted - promise. Thanks for showing.
Sophie and Chris spend a lot of time in Antarctica taking scientists there and making films there, so would probably have seen the changes there this year, with the record ice loss, and nearly 2.3 million km² lost ice over and above the normal. You can't hide anywhere!
Such an adventure!

Big thanks SophieN’Chris. Another epic video, and like always, I can’t wait for the next one!

Fantastic to see another of your videos. Good try Captain, the pond wasn't at the top of the hill.

Were those sharks 'playing' in the waves by the beach or do the waves reveal a food source?
