      @@NBATimeTravel It's actually very simple 😊 When you see an ( -IĆ ) at the end, that's the typical ending in Serbian last names, with the letter Ć, which is pronounced like you do in the video, so it's an (C) + (/) above it= Ć.
      But for some weird reason, I hear people who aren't from Ex-Yugoslavia, often pronouncing the normal letter C at the end of a Serbian name as Ć as well. I guess you're so used to hearing the -IĆ -IĆ -IĆ all the time, so your brains just runs with it when you see a C at the end 🤣
      So when you see DIVAC, know it's a normal C without the slash mark above. Actually, if before the C at the end is an OTHER letter than an ( i ), you can be sure, that it's NOT an actual Ć then. Only exception that comes into my mind is the name KORAĆ.
      In any case:
      Ć = CH, like it's well known
      Č = CZ, like in CZECH, or like in CHECK
      C = TS, like in TSUNAMI

    There's actually another Serb among the great NBA players, and you may be surprised but it is Luka Doncic since his father is a Serb (former basketball player, too) and his mother is a Slovenian. Having a Slovenian passport does not change the genetics. And when we're on genetics, some claim that one of the greatest talents who unfortunately ended his life in an accident was also a Serb from Criatia, i.e. Drazen Petrovic. Had Drazen lived to show his rich talents, who knows where he would have been in the All-time Gratest of the NBA players. It is really interesting how many good players came from the Balkans, in general, considering the small population overall. And, yes, it includes even a Greek by the name of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Interesting fact: total of 32 NBA players came from Serbia (population 6.7 millions), 23 from Croatia (population 3.8 millions), plus a few from Slovenia, Bosnia etc. Some interesting genomics over there!

    • @NBATimeTravel
      @NBATimeTravel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Knew about Doncic, but I haven’t included him here just because he represents the Slovenian National Team. When it comes to Petrovic, he definitely had the talent to become one of the all-time greats, it’s just tragic what happened to him. Everyone feared playing against him. All of Eastern Europe delivered incredible basketball talent, I think people from this area are just more passionate about their work and craft, plus back in the days, playing sports or reading books were everyone’s refuge, so besides having athletic abilities, just by practicing more, people became better at what they did. I’m trying to see the geopolitical part of the story as well. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

Pair this with an average coach (yes, Steve Kerr) and it’s a recipe for “whatever happens, happens”. Team chemistry will always play a big factor on such teams, and USA had no actual leader in the 2023 tournament

    Just one small mistake - Teodosic and Bjelica are not teammates right now. But that's okay, Teodosic is playing for a very small Serbian club, so it's an honest mistake.
    It's also important to remind that the list was based on the performance of the players just in the NBA League. If we talked about best Serbian players overall, even Jokic would struggle to reach top 5 of all time.

    • @NBATimeTravel
      @NBATimeTravel  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed, the list only talks about NBA careers, not their international ones. About Teodosic and Bjelica, yes, other people in the comments let me know about this as well, it was my mistake as Bjelica retired before they had the chance to play together. Thanks for the observation!
