I have been playing the Sea Vixen ever since I started playing war thunder and I have found that the Red Top missiles it recieves are 1. Inconsistent and tend to not blow up unless they *directly hit* their target 2. Firing at a distance of maximum distance of 1.3km has the best chance of a successful interception.
The Sea Vixen is one of those planes which takes a bit of learning to master, but is extremely satisfying to fly once you get a good playstyle going. I particularly recommend it for arcade players too, as with the Red Tops it gives you a fighting chance against Rank VI players who seem to constantly get downtiered into mixed high Rank IV & low Rank V air matches.
At first you treated the Red Top like a Aim9 J... later like a spiced up Aim9 B, what it is actually. 12km range... yeah at 11km altitude with a non maneuvering target.... Oh and fly the Vixen with minimum fuel.. 9 minutes is enough and it turns well, and climbs like a rocket!
Red Tops are high altitude missiles, They perform scary things in thin air... so go high when firing them, they can also be partially slaved to radar (so make sure to use it or turn it off to be sure).

I'd say around 1.7km is the ideal, but have got kills at 2km+ on oblivious planes.

It is literally one of the best 8.7 aircraft
U get access to 16G msl at 8.7. which is very good as long as u pull lead. I get 3 to 4 kill per game. wth premium account it’s 100k SL per game.
