Does It Suck? ASUS TUF Gaming A15 Laptop

- Just for fun testing does the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 laptop suck as reported by some overly critical reviewers. The AMD Ryzen has been constantly performing will with little or no throttling while bench marking tools are reading high 90% temperatures. I believe the cooling has been sufficient in most cases as even adding a cooling pad during tests didn't bring about drops in temperature. What I believe is either the tools are not tuned to reading off Ryzen properly or it's just designed to run at higher temperatures and still safe. Either way I did this just for fun to see how well it sucks.... that's all folks!

This is really helpful. I am debating altering the bottom case to get more airflow. Doesn't seem like laptop coolers do much with all the obstruction. Using a mesh screen would have worked so much better. Like MSI does on theirs.
Thanks for watching! Before you cut up the bottom cover maybe you can test run the gaming & cooling with the cover removed & prop it up 1st to see if it does come down. I've seen Jarrod's test even with cooler pad it doesn't help. I think the temp app is not reading the new Ryzen correctly & end up showing above 90c even on lower end U mobile Ryzen.
@@RichartAsia Yea I have already seen that with the bottom cover removed it was getting 6-10c lower. So theres something going on there. I am definatly doing more homework before I decide to cut anything. Thanks for the reply! Cheers.
@@bacongl watch hardware unboxed new video, don't think it's worth it. However there's some tdp limiting app. Might come in handy or just turn off boost
@@mohammadmuzammil4848 Yeah I was so glad they did a follow up video. Im just going to leave it. The laptop is surprisingly cool otherwise. Maybe a thermal paste change will help.
Ryzen controller work well to lower the temp by adjusting the tdp or temp limit(although the number is a bit weird), its better than disabling turbo boost, if lower the tdp by about 5w the cpu clock speed still run close to max turbo clock speed, close to non fps drop but 5-10 degree cooler.
This is just something i notice, the cpu voltage is 1.35V (reaching 1.4v) and stay pretty constant at high 28Watt in games. I think this might be part of the reason, its not optimized well. I saw in a testing of nitro5 2020 amd, its cpu voltage cap at only 1.25V and the wattage seem to be more on 20W with occasionally 30w (not same game comparison tho for watt)
Does it suck? Yeah, it sucked up the air from bottom grill. But im agreed with hardware unboxed to remove the obstruction. It happened also with G15 bottom cover

I had this laptop for 3 weeks and all I can say is, I absolutely enjoy it. And performance has been perfect for me. And I haven’t experienced much heating issues. But then I don’t stress the laptop out I just play it on high with 60fps each game. Sure it can go higher. But that’s all I wanted and I’m getting it.

Thanks for letting me know. It's ok. I've confirmed it, it's a bios problem on tuf a15. Hope they'll release an update soon.

I was hoping to get this laptop just because the cpu will rock in virtualization with more cores but if it's not going to have it, it'll become a difficult buy

I need a help bro.. I do 3d works and 4k 8k video editing using premiere, maya, after effects, 3d max etc. Can i get one from tuf a15 series? If yes, a ryzen 7 4800h with 1660ti or ryzen 9 4900h with rtx2060 model will work better? How'll be the heating problem with these programs? Or should i go with a desktop computer for my needs?
Hi Ajith, if low budget but need mobility get the 4800h 1660ti model max up ram & get a fast 3000/3000 2TB nmve ssd instead for your 3D & video. If you don't need mobility get a desktop. 3D works & video editing doesn't heat up anything even rendering video max you may go is 30mins video so same conclusion. Heat issue only if you play hard games at full resolution for long hours.

@@michastankiewicz9966 A15 is hotter as compared to other counterparts. Plus if you are not cooling the parts enough @ 90 + deg we are pushing the limits of electronic components.

In my country Acer nitro 5 costs 120$ more than the tuf 15 so should I consider it over the tuf...?

Yes it's very good
I highly recommend not to because it has a lot of coil whine and the fan gets real loud after a month using it please don’t get this laptop

@@glxtch9068 I plan on it but I travel all the time and want a laptop first. I could go over $1000 but not more than $1500. I actually don't play ANY highly demanding games. I just want to leave the option open. And I don't want one that's prone to overheating.
