Because he was. I hate Yuno for this exact reason but just about throughout the entire anime up until the end Yuno was just a little bit ahead of Asta. Since Yuno has 4 leaf magic it’s WAY easier for him to get stronger, Asta has to work a lot harder than Yuno and the fact that he was able to stay on par with no magic against someone with tremendous amounts of magic and a four leaf, just proves how great Asta is and how weak Yuno really is. If Asta had magic he’d surpass Yuno to the point that he wouldn’t deserve to have the title of astas “rival”. Through the anime up until the end, if they fought it would be a difficult fight for Yuno but he’d probably win. But with the ending of the anime, Yuno wouldn’t stand a chance.

Asta has to completely rely on his natural strength and stamina, which is something a person with magic doesn’t have to worry about so that already puts him at a severe disadvantage compared to people with a 3&4 leaf clover. Max demon strength Asta would be like one of it not the strongest in the entire anime but as of now in the anime he’s still not at his best and no where near it, also since he has no magic he has an extreme amount of weaknesses. The thing that’s also unfortunate is that 3&4 leaf clover especially Yuno, can pull out new powerful move straight out of their ass, Asta on the other hand deadass only has a few moves of himself whilst majority of them are entirely dependent on his demon form taking over when he goes berserk from being angry. So like I said, it’s surprising to see him on par with Yuno. It just proves how much stronger Asta is than Yuno both mentally and most definitely physically since he has to work harder.

Yuno got two grimoire:-four leaf and star means he has two magical attributes, wind and start then he is from the royalty which gives him immense mana and got a wind spirit which will help him. He also got elvian mana. He has learned mana zone, spirit dive etc

Asta is stronger then yuno . Cause the author made Asta to look like weakest kid so that he had more screen time and he can grow . The Asta character is literally the main hero among black clover more then yuno . Cause If yuno was the main hero then he would have more screen time + the series would have named Legendary 4 leaf clover instead of black clover . One more thing the author made him unique in his way more unique then Yuno . In terms of fighting yuno has upper hand in magic but he can't defeat asta cause he will never give up and his sword is anti magic and u guys also knew asta has a support of freaking demon , Everybody knows what asta's demon form can do 😎 .

I think people forget that MAGIC is everything for their kingdom, which is why it's always hard for people with little mana or even no mana. Asta and Yuno both work so hard, but the difference is that Yuno has a significant opportunity to gain trust and power since he was born into a royal family. It's not like who is luckier, basically, the whole series explains how unfair life is. But the one who will survive is the one who has a good determination and does not give up. If Yuno has talent but decided not to change like when he was a kid, he won't be in his place right now. And for Asta, even though he has no magic, he has a strong heart that leads him to happiness. I'm just hoping that the kingdom would treat him fair, especially for royals who blame him for having a devil inside him. He deserves support and love from people.

Actually speaking, yuno rather relies on his grimoire the most. And if you were to compare him to asta then he would just nullify the magic and then yuno is powerless since in terms of physical strength and speed asta has trained more. Yuno is gifted while asta works hard to obtain better power.
Asta relies on his grimoire just as much because it's where all of his swords and powers comes from. If he didn't have his grimoire, he'd just be a really buff dude who would be getting slapped left and right by every antagonist. Asta is carried by Anti-magic almost as much as Yuno is carried by talent
