He's a damn good guy, always kind to me, especially when we played the old Wishing Well Club in Pearsall, Texas.

I'm so glad he's speaking on the dwindling quail population. I live in Midland,Texas and have a ranch in Mason Tx. In both places, Midland especially where bird populations are typically booming, the quail have all but disappeared. I know the fireants around here have alot to do with it, so do the booming hog population, the snakes, and especially the big cats mostly bobcats but mountain lions and leapords as well. It terribly hurts my heart to think there's a possibility of the quail disappearing for good and it's up to all of us in the hunting community to do our best to improve conditions however we can. Balancing the number of natural predators and providing suitable habitats would be a good start. I personally wouldn't be opposed to placing them on the endangered species list for awhile or at least ban the hunting of them for 2-3 years to see if that would help the population. Whatever we can do, we owe it to nature and our future generations to do it
@Lindsey That's terrible. I'm glad the cat decided against defending his food. I know California has similar issues with mountain lions because the government doesn't allow any kind of hunting for them(unless for self defense I think but you still get in trouble). The population of the cats is honestly out of control there. The thing with mountain lions is that they like being alone and are extremely territorial. So the alpha cats will stake their claim in the good places and drive the others away, that added with overpopulation and a lack of a food source brings them into suburban areas where they can easily grab pets. There's also been many instances of children and hikers being attacked where typically the lions don't roam. It's not the cats fault, but that is what happens when the ecosystem becomes unbalanced, too much or too little of any one species can throw everything out of wack. California hires govt paid sharpshooters for millions of dollars a year to indiscriminately kill as many as they can. When what they should do is open a season for them and regulate how many are killed the same way we would for any other game. Brings in millions in revenue every year and would protect millions more in agriculture and ranching. Not to mention help with keeping them out of people's back yards. It's all about managing the populations and keeping a healthy balance in the ecosystem. Alot of people don't like the idea of hunting or killing animals, but what they don't realize alot of the time is that in order for the future generations of animals to have resources to live, some of the older have to die. Simply limited supply with too much demand.

I'm so glad he's speaking on the dwindling quail population. I live in Midland,Texas and have a ranch in Mason Tx. In both places, Midland especially where bird populations are typically booming, the quail have all but disappeared. I know the fireants around here have alot to do with it, so do the booming hog population, the snakes, and especially the big cats mostly bobcats but mountain lions and leapords as well. It terribly hurts my heart to think there's a possibility of the quail disappearing for good and it's up to all of us in the hunting community to do our best to improve conditions however we can. Balancing the number of natural predators and providing suitable habitats would be a good start. I personally wouldn't be opposed to placing them on the endangered species list for awhile or at least ban the hunting of them for 2-3 years to see if that would help the population. Whatever we can do, we owe it to nature and our future generations to do it

I know California has similar issues with mountain lions because the government doesn't allow any kind of hunting for them(unless for self defense I think but you still get in trouble). The population of the cats is honestly out of control there.
The thing with mountain lions is that they like being alone and are extremely territorial. So the alpha cats will stake their claim in the good places and drive the others away, that added with overpopulation and a lack of a food source brings them into suburban areas where they can easily grab pets. There's also been many instances of children and hikers being attacked where typically the lions don't roam. It's not the cats fault, but that is what happens when the ecosystem becomes unbalanced, too much or too little of any one species can throw everything out of wack.
California hires govt paid sharpshooters for millions of dollars a year to indiscriminately kill as many as they can. When what they should do is open a season for them and regulate how many are killed the same way we would for any other game. Brings in millions in revenue every year and would protect millions more in agriculture and ranching. Not to mention help with keeping them out of people's back yards. It's all about managing the populations and keeping a healthy balance in the ecosystem.
Alot of people don't like the idea of hunting or killing animals, but what they don't realize alot of the time is that in order for the future generations of animals to have resources to live, some of the older have to die. Simply limited supply with too much demand.
