You like Metallica? Their early work was a little too... thrash for my taste. But when Master of Puppets came out in '86, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really give the songs a big boost. They've been compared to Megadeth, but I think Metallica has a bitter, far more cynical sense of humor. In '88, Metallica released this, ...And Justice for All, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is One, a song so heavy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about a wounded soldier who can't function, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
