Pittsburgh is so lucky to have both of you caring and advocating for it's unique culture! These stairs are such a great treasure and I hope they can be preserved well into the future. I don't like in PGH but I've visited many times and I'm always taken with it, it's such an interesting place with such a unique history. Well done.
Thanks for putting this up. It's great to see something recent on the steps. I've always been fascinated by the city steps, and finally got around to walking them early this year. I started with Canton Avenue in Beechview and am about 3/4 of the way through them now.
Technically not Pittsburgh, but there used to be a set of stairs in West Mifflin between Inland Avenue and the corner of Outlook Drive and Glencairn Street just outside of the Kennywood parking lot. They were a part of Glencairn Street that went down to Kennywood Boulevard (St. Rt. 837). They were not long; only about 75 feet from the top.
When I was young back in the 1950s and early 1960s My mother visited a family member who lived in a house on the steps near a school type ofbuilding and its grounds on one side. I have always wanted to find these steps on Google Earth. The only thing I remember it was in the north side maybe Belleview or Brighton Heights.. The main thing I remember was a large college or school structure and grounds beside the steps opposite the homes and the street below had street cars on it. I wouldn't even know how to do a Google search for it. Interestingly I am 79 in November and my kids and grandkids want me to write down my life,, back in May or June I was thinking about those steps.
Same thing every time with any video about Pittsburgh. Very few views and the comments are mostly from the locals. Shame the city gets no respect with most of America thinking it is still that ugly dirty steel city. I don't think Pittsburgh will ever be able to shake that image. A shame really.
Ellen, you and Laura are genuine treasures. Imagine what Pittsburgh would look like if everyone got on board with you. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you! Stay tuned for more videos and Laura's awesome book!!!
Very interesting! Thanks for the city steps tour and info. Street stairs, who knew? I look forward to the book and visiting these sites one day.
I hope you can someday!
My Grandma lived down on Spring Garden and we took the city steps up to Troy Hill every morning.
Cincinnati - similar story about 19th and early 20th century neighborhoods / stairways on the hills surrounding the “basin.”.
I grew up in Greenfield. My girlfriend lived in Hazelwood so I have walked the Gladstone St stairs many times. Thanks for posting this.
Absolutely fantastic! I cannot imagine growing up on these steps.. I wanna visit!!
The Pittsburgh steps are literally my favorite thing.

Right on! Loved the video…:
The steps actually have street names and are considered streets on google maps and apps.
Watch out for that tree 🌲 😅😅😅
She's a mile a minute.
i trim steps n trails. if you see me with a machete, im just landscaping. 😂🍻
A tree 🌲 hugging 🤗 fool 😂😂😂😂
If I was a billionaire, i would personally pay to fix up all the city steps.
Sex and avalanche 😂😂😂😂
Too mad that a majority of City of Pittsburgh steps are not properly maintained
