When she talked about loving a book but not remembering anything about it, I felt that.

You’ve broken this down into such manageable steps, great job.

It seems to me like i have read about this type of reading a book from the book of Mortimer A. "How to read a book". He says about structural reading a book where you can easily jump from the sentence to the whole book, but in exchange for this you have to work on book more than just "sit in a soft chair and read with cup of coffee". But let's be honest there are no point in reading nonfiction book if you don't remember it. You cannot use the whole potential of knowledge that book can offer to you.
Anyway your method is definitely better than just writing down notes.
Reading is hard. (sry for mistakes)

Leaving a comment, because this video deserves one. Super method of not only remembering the whole book, but also explaining it to someone of what we read, plus bring back those points into discussion which otherwise wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for this method of reading a book. Thanks Gretchen!

Hello Gretchen. Thank you for this video and the videos following it. I just wanted to say that I watched probably five videos before this on how to take notes on a book, and none of them were any good. I have only seen part 1 but will continue on to all the parts after commenting. This video has already given me more than all those other videos. In my own thoughts about how to achieve better recall from the nonfiction that I read, I have already focused on the table of contents. What I have not done is to give myself the opportunity to paraphrase a chapter or section, or write interesting notes about it. Anyways, I appreciate it and I'm looking forward to seeing the success that I believe you will have with this technique in the following parts.

Oh yay! I'm so glad that you found this tip useful... I find myself not wanting to put i the effort of summarizing in my own words, but when I do, I win big in the memory department. Good luck to you!
