Coming back here after watching this for the first time at the beginning of this year. I had listened to these in the summer of 2023 (more specifically June, which is when I got back into a GNR phase), and here in Canada summer gets REALLY hot. Honestly brings me back to when I was having fun in the summer sun or sweating and hogging the AC while listening to these. One of the coolest things I've seen all year!
I had this on CD back in 1999, but it was called Crash Diet(fuck knows what I ever did with it). These songs were just left overs/rejects from the Use Your Illusion sessions.
This comes all from 'Unwanted Illusions' bootleg halfway the 90's. I had that CD back then. Heartbreak Hotel is missing on this version however Other of these songs already appeared on the 30 years anniversary release of Appetite
Shallow is from a demo tape recorded by Axl during his time in LA Guns. Too much, Jumpin' (Stones cover) & Shadow are from Appetite recording sessions. And Cornshucker from Lies sessions.
Anche The plague è stata registrata durante il periodo di Appetite mentre Shalalala 😅 è una demo degli La Guns lo aveva detto Traci Guns in un intervista.

I had a similar bootleg CD back in the day called “Unwanted Illusions”. As I remember, it had a different edit of “Crash Diet” which had this crazy over the top whammy bar solo in it over a thrash metal rhythm section. It was pretty horrible, didn’t fit the song, and went on forever(!) 😂 Much prefer this version.

Crash Diet remix is worse than the version that floated around Kazaa and similar programs back in the day.. but it's still friggin awesome.. kinda reminded me My Mychelle in way.. Axl's vocals are amazing.
Dust in The Wind is a promising song. He deserved better treatment from the Band. work better on the arrangements and harmonies and who knows, maybe a more polished introduction. The other songs on this compilation leave a lot to be desired in my opinion.

These could all be workshopped and produced into something pretty decent. Certainly not their best material... I mean they are literally the offcuts...the "rejects". But they could play on that. Call the album "REJECTS". OR _"US REJECTS"_ . And with a great producer, and high production values...songs like _Sunday_ could go from the slightly off key, drunken shandy.. to a great big monster production , alà _Knockin' on Heaven's Door._ And _Shallow_ could be a _Since i Dont have You_ type thing. (I personally quite dig Guns doing 60's style stuff. There's a sweetness to it it, but with a gruff edge, hinting at darkness. The difference between unlistenable, 2nd rate garage band trash..to killer, badass rock n' fkn' roll, is just one Rick Reuben away...
