Michael, Name hr is Jay N4NRL. In part, your video here helped me pull the trigger on my own 20 meter QCX build. The very first thing I did was mess up T1 but with a little encouragement from Hans Summers, I was able to carry on. Finished the build the other day and still have not put power to it as of this writing wanting to review the videos on the setup process one last time. I finished the project build in about 8 hours. I really took my time measuring everything as I went along. The moment of truth is approaching having built a monoband 20-meter dipole just to run with this rig. Had so much fun building I ordered the 40 meter version and it will be much faster and I think off-board construction for human interface. Thanks to you for this great video and I hope others will find this kit the one for them. 73 n tnx de n4nrl

Fantastic build video. Nice job with your soldering skills and I love that Peak 45!

rcbrush99 The Peak LCR45 is a great little tool for homebrew. Useful for double checking resistors and capacitors and just the ticket for tweaking home wound inductors. They often have offers on so it’s worth looking out for them at a show or Black-Friday deal.

Hi Michael - I just received my 40 meter QCX kit and your video will aid me in the build process, especially in trying to figure out an enclosure for the kit. Thanks for the help! Bob, W3ARA

Nice video! Useful to see options to use a case and mount the hardware.

I've just built my 10MHz version, after a couple of years. Mine was the v2 board and 1.00c firmware (they are on v5 board and 9 firmware upgrades since) so there's a few straightforward mods, mostly component value changes and a couple of extra resistors under the PCB. They are on the website and incorporated in the newer boards.
Hardest bit was the Toroid From Hell, but that seems OK and resonates where it should. Output a bit low at 1 watt @ 12v and not much more at 13.8v, but at least means the PA transistors run cool when running WSPR. It's a great kit. ☺

Mine is still just a board, but once everything's running fine, I've got the official enclosure for it.

26CT845 That T1 is a beast to fit! I’ve never built one nor met anyone else that’s built one that outputs more than 1.5W without ‘tweaking’. I have a feeling the output LPF may cut off a bit sharp so it may simply need the toroids on that adjusting a bit. Enjoy.

An exceedingly good review/assembly video! Great overview. Would suggest holding off on hot glue until after radio is checked out. I prefer clear nail polish instead of the glue as well as it holds the windings in place.

War Planner Yes! Excellent advice...I actually check that everything is operating as I want before adding the hot glue, or anything else, to keep the toroids fixed because it’s difficult to make adjustments once it’s all ‘glued’ down.
Varnish works really well but I’m trying hot glue because I take my radios out portable and they get knocked about a bit. I want to see if the rubbery glue works better in these conditions. Thanks.

Rus Healy I had to Google it as we don’t have the same cultural link here in the U.K.
Here’s the deal if you’re as confused as I was: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_(cannabis_culture)
What are the chances of ‘POT getting serial number 420!

Great video! I also have a 30m QCX kit, but haven't built it yet. Thanks for this. ☺
You may remember that we met on a hot summer day many years ago - I had beaten you to the summit of Beacon Hill in, I think, an RSGB 2m Backpackers' contest. I've not heard you in a contest in a long time, but obviously you've been doing other things! 73 Mark GØOIW

Ha, yes...I was just recounting that story to a new Ham and SOTA Op the other day. Back then my hill topping station wasn’t so backpacker friendly and weighed a ton! Good to see you’re still active.

a bit worrying that you have received serial no 420 in November, I have been allocated serial no 3000.

Roy Hetherington I did order at initial release but still had to wait a while. 3000?!! They must be selling like hot cakes :o)
I hope production has scaled up and you receive yours soon.

Ahhhh, I'm guessing I'm being a little inaccurate in my description and should have said microcontroller. Thanks for correcting me...I'll be a little more thoughtful about my terminology in future!
