      The year wouldn't make any difference, seeing as it's all hand-drawn!
      It's just put together with the computer, which really wouldn't have any effect on the art quality. Or do you mean it's impressive because most of the stuff at the time was crap?

    • @SQfighterpilot
      @SQfighterpilot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Funnily enough, even in English it's a fairly appropriate use of the term. Dictionary definition includes: "a quality of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life" and "a medieval tale dealing with a hero of chivalry, of the kind common in Romance languages." This describes Nausicaa-- and much of Miyazaki's work-- quite well. The trailer itself is not exactly faithful to the movie in general, I would agree.

    I can't be the only one who realized this movie is based in the same world as Laputa

    • @genericgarbage534
      @genericgarbage534 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sailor Sedna True, I though based this to the simple little things like in Nausicaä they have the raccoon cats just like Laputa, in one scene where Nausicaä flees enemy planes she passes a huge double cloud cluster, most likely Laputa, or what remains of it, the tapestry in Nausicaä's father's room shows a man who looks a little too similiar to the people who lived on Laputa also shown on Pazu's book. So, I'm like 99% sure that these 2 worlds are one and the same. But I could always be wrong.

    • @genericgarbage534
      @genericgarbage534 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sailor Sedna From what I remember, apparently Nausicaä is based in the future "after the mechanical age" (which also is a nod to Laputa since Laputa is pretty big on mechanical things) or something like that.

    • @genericgarbage534
      @genericgarbage534 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sailor Sedna Probably not in the same universe but I have theories for other movie connections, like Howl's Moving Castle and Mary and The Witch's Flower, both having similar types of magic both movies having wizards and witches. That also goes for Ponyo, Howl's Moving Castle AND Mary and The Witch's Flower, since "witches and wizards with red hair are concidered top tier magic users", Ponyo, her father and the rest of her family have red hair and are strong magic users. That's about all the theoretical connections I could think of right now.

    "A thousand years have passed since the collapse of industrialized civilization. A toxic jungle now spreads, threatening the survival of the last of the human race"
    That opening always send chills down my spine...

    • @тито-к9в
      @тито-к9в 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it’s literally the future if we don’t get our shit together. not that industrial civilization should be saved, but parts can be salvaged for the good of all, especially keeping hospitals powered with solar panels and windmills (while everyone else lives relatively electricity-free). but we must stop extractive economies. Indigenous peoples around the world have been telling us all along, not in the same way but in a similar spirit.

    • @gabriellockhart
      @gabriellockhart 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@тито-к9в Nice dream... But indigenous small scale societies don't have the man power to create and maintain the production of advanced machines like solar panels or wind farms. considering the world would need a ceaseless supply of these items as solar degrades to be useless after ten years, and wind between fifteen and twenty. Plus you'd also need the satellite industries of heavy plant production and materials plus their satellite industries such as refining. A solar panel is the tip of a massive pyramid of industries.

    • @тито-к9в
      @тито-к9в 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @gabriellockhart i meant that we would use all the solar that has already been produced, and then rely on wind and (non-dam) hydro for the necessities in hospitals. there is literally no other solution. harnessing electricity as we know it only exists because of a society built on extraction and exploitation, one that has deforested almost the entire planet and continues to eat mountains and drain lakes. you’re right in that solar power requires as much destruction and violence that fossil fuels do, but crucially they do not alter the climate at nearly the same rate, and that’s what we need to focus on mitigating first. the mass extinction event industrial society is causing right now cannot go on.

    • @gabriellockhart
      @gabriellockhart 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@тито-к9в Nope because they'd eventually all degrade and wear out and with no means of producing more we would literally end our species. You see we've gone way past the tipping point to go in reverse. The only way now is forwards, the only chance of survival of our species is to become multi planet species, we need to leave earth and start mining and consuming the asteroid belt. For the survival of our species we need to ditch solar and wind because both of these things are not remotely sustainable and will do considerably more damage then coal or gas. because of these technologies reliance on rare earth materials. The key word being rare. we'll have to strip mine africa and south america. which is stupid and dangerous. our only path forward is nuclear fission and water batteries and low carbon natural gas with next generation thorium reactors. with the hope of that in the next few years we can crack nuclear fusion generators and that piece of tech will essentially remove our need for gas, solar and wind. a wasteless system of generating electricity with no danger of melt down.
      And you're also forgotting the benefits of global warming. which means our plants will grow more and thus we'll get more calories per acre of land, a second benefit would be larger cattle. the earth is simply returning to how it was before the last ice age, warm and wet, Pursuing a reversal of carbon could destroy the eco system by creating a mass die off of plants that require CO2 to survive. Our technology is more then enough to protect us from the so called increase in temperature and increased storms..
